- Episode 2 - New neighbors: Syria
Not even one and a half year ago, the border between Turkey and Syria was the corridor to the busiest trade route towards the Middle-East, now these countries are on the verge of war. What went wrong?
Bram Vermeulen travels Along the borders of Turkey. With the Europe collapsing on one hand and shattering regimes in the Arab world on the other hand, the Turkish influence in these regions will grow. Here the new power relations around the Mediterranean are being drawn. In this exploration conducted by Bram Vermeulen, we learn as much about the Turks as we do about ourselves. The boundaries make the countries and not the other way around. Borders define the country: this is where our domain ends and the domain of others begins. Turkey is a border country. A country that defines itself as cramping from its contrast with its neighbors. Turkey is non-Greek, non-Russian, non-Arabic. Turkey is the twilight zone between the Middle East and Europe.
Bram Vermeulen travels in four episodes Along the borders of Turkey. Here the new power relations around the Mediterranean are being drawn. Big developments with huge consequences for the people living there. Vermeulen enters the twilight zones: Greece, Cyprus, Syria and Iraq, looking for the actual dividing lines between these neighboring countries.

When was this filmed? In the description it says 2012 but that guy born in 1910 said he was 107 years old.

Thank you Rosa.
Very interesting documentary. Good Job! Documentary would be much better if you could make the camera less shaking.
Well made video, do you have more video coverage for the slogan you showed at the end of video?
Syria,Turkey, Russia and Iran agree on safe zones, so some good news for the people of Syria but the the SFA objected to this because of the Iranian involvement. I expect the people of Syria would prefer peace for the sake of their families.
You have seen people who lives in Antakya and Hatay under the Turkish identity have Arab roots actually. They have not Turkish roots. That's why people in the same family said I'm Turkish and the another one said I'm arab.
scaglietti34 yea they were definitely arabs
Its border town... One goes across another comes back... Its like that everywhere along borders!

There are 3 million Syrian people in Turkey. So we are helping them. For ex.: if they are reading at university in Syria, they can read a university in Turkey. This war is american games. I belive Muslim country will be stronger.

u could show the refugees in good condition in refugee camps. Turkish government spent lots of money for those refugee camps. and there are many people they live in peace there. Refugees are everywhere in Turkey and Turkish people help them even in social life. Why dont u show the ones who are glad because they live in Turkey.
