Dehumanizer was, for me, the most criminally underrated album that Sabbath ever did, and a big reason I loved it so much was because Dio returned for it. This is Black Sabbaths first album without Ozzy, and Dios first album with them.I love both of them and it's hard to compare because it's a totally different sound.Saw an interview with Dio where he was talking about the Heaven and Hell tour and how the diehard Ozzy fans would give him the middle finger, and he was getting booed, that had to be hard for someone with so much talent and prior material with Rainbow.Eventually she will probably hear Stargazer from Rainbow and hear how amazing he was before Sabbath.

The actual song is really good and kind of an all-time favorite of mine. This version is pretty nice as well, but that's simply because of seeing Dio play with his audience, which he always did. FYI - Ronnie James Dio had been also singing much longer than Ozzy Osbourne at this point in 1980 and was quite older... Ronnie had started singing in his teens in the late 50's and started recording in the 60's, singing R&B and do-wop songs in the decade in vocal groups like Ronnie Dio and the Prophets.
It was hearing bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath in 1970 that changed his life... he formed his first 'heavy rock' band Elf in 1972 and opened for Deep Purple... In 1976, Deep Purple's guitarist Ritchie Blackmore hired Elf to record his first solo effort Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and retained only vocalist Ronnie James Dio for the band Rainbow and recorded 3 successful albums before he was fired in 1979 (Blackmore wanted the band to go in a commercial direction - Ronnie wanted the band to stay heavy).
Because Black Sabbath was agonizing over recording a new album and coming up empty, guitarist Tony Iommi opted to fire Ozzy Osbourne in 1979 and talked about working w/ Ronnie James Dio for the next Sabbath record... Dio & Iommi clicked musically immediately, because Ronnie wanted to be heavy and brought that out of Iommi's guitar... Sabbath w/ Ozzy had Geezer Butler (bass) writing the lyrics to Ozzy's vocal melodies & harmonies... Sabbath w/ Dio was Ronnie writing all the lyrics, harmonies and melodies... while Iommi & Butler wrote & arranged the music. So it was radically different, but still Black Sabbath.
However, Ronnie James Dio found himself out of Black Sabbath in 1982 and formed his own band in 1983 w/ Sabbath's drummer here - Vinny Appice.

Rob Halford for his brutal take no prisoners attitude, Bruce Dickinson for his raw power, and Ronnie James Dio for his subtle skill and imagination. I think you're right to compare him with Freddie. Nice reaction! Great singer, and a gentle soul with Ronnie James Dio. A couple of reaction ideas. Ronnie was in Rainbow. Their hit "Man on the silver mountain" is amazing. Also, Rainbow had another killer singer named Graham Bonnet. His big song with them was called "Since you've been gone" worth a reaction. Take care

Dio definitely played with the vocals when live…..the voice of “sword and sorcery metal!
This whole album, for which this is the title track, is awesome….listen to all of it!

Also as much as Dio, Ozzy & others were the voices of Sabbath, there would not have been Sabbath sound without Tony Iommi. Simply the best metal guitarist ever! 🎸

My favorite Metal band ever. My second favorite Sabbath era are with Dio. Those albums Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules and Dehumanizer are great masterpieces. Live the band used to improvise a bit with this song Children of the Sea and The Sign of the Southern Cross.

Oh Hell yes! Dio is a MUST when going into old school Heavy Metal. I mean this 🤘🤘 we got from Dio! So he's mandatory. His influence is unreal. He inspired everyone from Iron Maiden to Jack Black and tons in between.
I had the pleasure and privilege of seeing Dio once. It was with this line up of Black Sabbath in the mid 2000s when they changed this version of the band's name to Heaven and Hell. He was in his 60s by then and he sounded just as good he does here. Also Megadeth was the opener before them. One of the best shows I ever attended.

They wrote this album in L.A. and when they wrote this song they shopped it for reactions by taking it to the girls in local strip clubs. Needless to say they loved it-how could they resist that bass line?
The song did evolve over the years. The Dio fronted version of Sabbath rebranded themselves Heaven & Hell because Tony and Geezer were working with Ozzy again at the same time and they had to differentiate between the two projects. The 2007 Radio City Music Hall set was the definitive version but the best one to watch was the Wacken set on the Neon Nights DVD-one of the last times they performed it live and we have it filmed 👍

RJD loved his fans and knew who paid him ultimately. He was a gentleman to boot. This was a great intro for you to the world of Ronnie James Dio. It shows how he entertained the fans he loved.

You should hear the studio version. He made a lot of good songs with Sabbath and afterward. You should hear The Devil Cried, and 'I'.
Also, Straight Through the Heart, Rainbow in the Dark, Don't Talk to Strangers, Invisible, Holy Diver, Last in Line, I Speed at Night, Mystery, Egypt(The Chains Are On) Stand Up and Shout
Dream Evil, Man On The Silver Mountain(studio) Caught in the Middle, ...

My favourite metal singer, I'm so mindblown how he can sound so clear live, most would have to lipsync. I love how theatrical he is, he really wants the audience to get in the feeling and telling a story, it's like musical or opera honestly.

Ronnie is an absolute legend and one of those guys who never lost it
I got to see him both with his DIO band and fronting Heaven and Hell (the lineup you see right here basically but they weren't able to use the Sabbath name at the time) and i've never seen anyone perform quite like him. He is massively missed
I'd love to see you react to any of his work with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, DIO or Heaven And Hell

Dio was the ultimate front Man. He was even better once he had his own Band. Everyone in the World respected him from all walks of life. Even if they knew nothing about Rock that is how well respected he was. Also he carries a certain type of class. You would never hear him cuss. He was old school. Very respectful human being.

I saw Black Sabbath twice. 1980 and 1982. Never saw them with Ozzy, only Dio. In fact, one of the shows I was at ('82, Seattle Center Coliseum) provided the venue for a few tracks included on their live album, "Live Evil." I believe that is what we are watching here...those crosses on the stage were definitely the 1982 tour.

Its a very popular opinion that Ronnie invented the devil's horns hand gesture, it's a toss up between him and Gene Simmons of Kiss. Stargazer by Rainbow with RJD is fantastic as is Children of the Sea by Sabbath. Have fun.

Love your passion when you hear these on that may not be exactly what you are used to! You can see by your facial expressions and body movements that you fully experience the way music is supposed to envelop your soul! Dio had a voice from Heaven and Hell and he was so great live, saw him twice. A real legend in Heavy Metal!
