    Just ordered the kit. Paid for 2 day delivery and it was still under $42. I’ve got a 3500 Cummins with 5,000 miles and I’ve been trying to decide how to keep this oil from entering my turbo. Well done!

    I have the same exact catch can on my 08 Silverado for the past three years. It works great. Valves stay cleaner and my throttlebody does not gunked up from the oil vapor that goes into the manifold. I am gonna be installing one on my 2018 Cummins. But it would still be wise to have the hose going back to the intake tube to use the vacuum/ suction from the turbo to help vent the oil vapor from the engine.

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Cummins engine is a positive crank case engine and does not need vacuum to pull crank case fumes. This is why they simply ran a hose to the ground for years.

    • @CSXtrackworker
      @CSXtrackworker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These newer Cummins diesel engines have higher crankcase pressure compared to older 12 and 24 valve diesels. Using the vacuum from the turbo helps to suck the vapor out and relieve the crankcase pressure that is always building up in there. Which also helps save your seals and gaskets from leaking from unvented pressure.

    • @EVERYTHANGDIESEL
      @EVERYTHANGDIESEL  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both of you are correct. Running that catch can helps a lot! And I did notice that my valve cover gasket started to leak a bit which led me to doing this one I do a 2nd gen swap I wont have the choice to run that down to the turbo anyways. Good info from u guys

    • @monsterram6617
      @monsterram6617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CSXtrackworker - There is no mechanical need to run the crank case into the turbo and into the engine. This is done purely for emissions compliance. You'd really only need a catch can when running compounds or over 60psi of boost and even then its simply vented to the atmosphere. Idk where you're getting this idea that the 6.7 needs vacuum to pull crank case vapor, as the school trained Cummins mechanics with decades of experience I've had this discussion with all disagree with you.

    • @CSXtrackworker
      @CSXtrackworker 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always love the "I have friends replies" or " I talk to people" replies. These motors do have higher crankcase pressure and need the extra vacuum to properly vent the pressure. Older models did not need this type of design. Yes, it does have to do with emissions but also has to do with properly venting it so it does not build up too much pressure and cause leaks at seals. I'm also a trained Cummins tech too.

    Does it make a difference if the catch can is lower than the exit point coming off the crank case, that way no contaminants remain in the hose or flow back track back into the crankcase?

    More boost you run with a tuner. the more crank case pressure ull have. Some of that extra boost that gets past the piston rings goes to the crank case that's why on twin turbo race cars and trucks its crucial to have a catch can. Cause if you boost the crank case too much. you get air bubbles in the oil and this causes less lubrication on main bearings.

  • @jlbush8249
    @jlbush8249 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Shouldn’t the can be lower? Also, without plumbing both sides, wouldn’t it create a back pressure and defeat the whole purpose? Lastly, shouldn’t you plumb both sides to get positive suction to help pull the vapors and mist out of the crankcase?

    OIL like water runs down hill. So if you install the catch can hose on a gentle incline, the oil will drain back to the engine at shutoff. On my 6.7 catch can install, I routed a 3/4" heater hose at an incline to where your can is installed. zip tied it to the loop on the firewall and ran the hose next to the air intake. that is where the catch can is installed. the catch can breather is right above K&N air filter. no oil in my catch can yet. time will tell if its a good idea.

    So I watched this video and then bought one for my 2010 Ram 2500. I would, and did just put it inline with new mishmoto hoses. No oil will go into the turbo and it shouldn’t impact your emissions if you live in a state where you can’t take it off like you had it before.

  • @Beef-Stu

    Did you get a check engine light, and did it catch any oil? With the CCV filter in tact, it needs negative pressure to work right? Isn't that a reason why it's plugged into the turbo?

    can you shut the hood? the filter looks higher than hood seal? don,t you need vacuum like from the turbo to get the oil to the catch can

    • @EVERYTHANGDIESEL
      @EVERYTHANGDIESEL  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No u dont need vacuum from the turbo. Diesels are positive crank meaning they can vent themselves from running not requiring a suction. Also it is a little too high but when I close the hood it pushes it down a little. Nothing to bad for me

    Don't u have a crank case filter?

  • @michaelgentry8461
    @michaelgentry8461 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not being critical, but I think leaving the crankcase filter in would be better than going to all this trouble. I talked to Cummins about this, and they also feel that it is better to leave the filter in, and it only has to be changed every 70,000 miles. They also said that the hose going into the intake doesn't let any oil go into the turbo if you maintain the crankcase filter properly, and if you turn on the exhaust brake every once in a while it will take care of anything the filter misses, which in most cases is not much at all.

    • @EVERYTHANGDIESEL
      @EVERYTHANGDIESEL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah man ccv delete is the most debated topic on a 6.7 cummins engine in my opinion. The filter is a 65k interval change too which is really good. at this point and multiple debates i think its up to the interval.

    • @338red

      Everything diesel actually went further and way better than most of us go, great job on the install by the way and great thinking on the catch can.
      Most of us just run a piece of heater hose straight down the frame. Those that do the delete like me have high milage trucks and don't want to spend $80-90 dollars for another filter. When I took my filter out the to do my CV delete at 68,000 miles it was filthy and the hose going to the turbo already had oil down it, for myself it's piece of mind that my turbo isn't eating used oil and sending it in with clean air.

  • @johnb7566
    @johnb7566 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    i do have a question ... I see you mounted it higher than the gutted filter. I would think that you'd want it mounted lower to facilitate the oil flow downward. Have you had experience with oil backing up into the gutted chamber?

    • @EVERYTHANGDIESEL
      @EVERYTHANGDIESEL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it vapor not physical oil so once the can "catches" the vapor it turns it into oil and collects it

    • @jdmorris76
      @jdmorris76 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s really not a problem if any oil goes back into the valve, cover and back into the engine. The whole point is that you’re trying to collect the oil vapor and give the engine a place to vent

  • @chasememmott2722

    Nice job. You bought 3/4 hose which was a little big. What size was the outlet from the top of the Ccv and the inlet to the intake? I’m looking for one online with the same size inlet as on the can and ccv. Thanks!

    • @EVERYTHANGDIESEL
      @EVERYTHANGDIESEL  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really depends on what you want man. If you want your truck to run it's best delete it. If your worried about no being under warranty then keep it. Deleting truck is beneficial to it. You can get emission intact tuning. If I had a brand new 6.7 cummins under warranty me personally I would delete it. But that's me. It's what matters to you most.

    probably doesn’t matter now because you’re beyond this.
    But you are supposed to plug the “out” hole when using the filter on top .
    otherwise the filter does nothing.
    The hole where the filter goes is an out hole as well .
    take the plug out on top and move it to the out hole
