  • One of the biggest problems plaguing videographers, video creators, and video strategists is the inconsistency of revenue. In an industry that often struggles knowing when to expect the next project, longterm deals with retainer clients can be a saving grace.
    In this episode of How To Win With Video, I talk with David Bibiano, Owner of Take 17 Video Productions, and Co-Creator of The Real Deal Video Strategist Club. David's running his production agency primarily on huge retainer deals with clients, and he's helping hundreds of other video creators become video strategists who can help their clients get results and earn retainer deals. In this episode, some of the things you'll hear us talk about include why it's important to study logistics not just tactics, how to avoid revenue inconsistency in video businesses with retainer deals, the best industries for retainer deals, dominating your competitors during Covid, how to use Clubhouse as an entrepreneur, and how David's helping video creators achieve financial stability.
    David attributes the way he does business with his agency to a life-changing quote he learned back in basic training. Like many important lessons in life, he didn't know what to make of it at the time, but as he moved forward it helped him achieve the huge success he's now having with his businesses. We kick off our interview talking about that, and it sets the tone for everything else we bring up.

    Watching this one year after it aired and it’s incredible how much can change in a matter of one year! The tourism industry is now booming and not many people still talk about Clubhouse anymore (although I’m not saying it’s dead).. and several of the concepts raised here with retainers are of huge value for entrepreneurs who are starting a video production business like myself. Several gold nuggets here. 🙏🏽

      Crazy how a year can change things, right? There's always gonna be the evergreen wisdom mixed in with the timely tactics. Being able to identify both, and know when and how to use them can be massive.
      How have things been for you this past year?

    Is a retainer beneficial for an musician/artist? If so how so? Can you grow a business Just from shooting music videos?

    • @DaveLisowski
      @DaveLisowski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In short- yes, it's beneficial for a musician/artist. Lemme explain:
      Artists have two main pillars of content- their music (long term assets) and their social content (short term promotion). Creating music is the core of what they do, so they're going to do it regardless. To promote it, they need to create as much content AROUND the music as they can to keep people's eyes (and ears) on it. Whether that's music videos, or teasers, or TikToks using snippets of their songs, they're going to need content to be able to push out and in front of people. It isn't enough any more to JUST make music and hope people find it. If YOU as the video creator can create the content for them on a consistent, ongoing basis, and it's going to help them get their music heard and in front of people, then that's incredibly useful and worth something.
      What that's worth is to be decided between you and the artist. For someone just getting started without funding or a label backing them, it might not make sense to spend more than a couple hundred bucks a month creating content. For someone more established with an existing following, it might be more beneficial to spend more on something like that. I'm not going to dive into the merits of investing in marketing as an artist (that's n entire conversation in and of itself) but at the core, yes it's beneficial. If you can create something for someone that is useful to them for achieving THEIR goals, you are valuable.
      There are people who grow their business just from shooting music videos. Just consider the number of artists willing to pay a few thousand dollars per video vs the number of businesses willing to pay a few thousand dollars per video. A lot of people do "corporate" work because it pays bills more easily than music video work, but it's possible. Check out people like Jakob Owens or Max Moore.
