Thanks for posting. I just replaced the driver side ballast on my 2016 GL550 using this video. I did not need to remove the whole wheel well shroud to get access, only 3 push pins needed removed to peel it back enough. Mercedes calls the part a light module, but everyone else calls it ballast, important to know when looking at the part diagram and ordering generic parts.
My 2013 GL450 driver side light is not working, symptoms: when turned on, the light goes on, but I can hear noise around the headlight. After a few seconds, the light goes off, so goes the noise. Wonder your problem was similar? Not sure if I should just replace the ballast. Thank you!
Getting an after-market or a used ballast could have hidden code inside it to communicate to the car and over ride certain safety features within the car. leading to different types of issues some actual and others misleading.

Great! Thanks for the tip!
How do we open that screen above the tire? Can you put link for it in video description and what tools you need?
Its just a plastic wheel well dust cover. i point out where the nuts and retainers are in the video.

Probable the balast, you can switch bulb to other side. or even switch balast to other side to be sure.
Did your high beams work when the ballast was bad?
Either wont turn on or will go on intermittendly...
Did you have to code the new ballast or ?
No just plugged it in.

You dont show it being replaced or if it even works.
Yes worked perfectly
Did not need to be coded
