Love how this turned out bud! Fantastic work as usual :) And huge thanks for letting me show off the behind the scenes stuff!
loved hearing your name mentioned, it took me by surprise
Seeing those two videos appear next to each other in my sub box was so exciting! Love both your channels :D
@@jon_franklin The behind-the-scenes content is really gold! So much additional information there!
@@WinterworksDicecraft Yeah I watched it yesterday! Loved it!
For those interested, Cr YAG is used as a saturatable absorber Q switch. In a laser gain medium, electrons are placed in an excited state by an energy pump. Normally, some of these electrons will spontaneously decay, releasing it's energy as light. Above a certain photon density, the gain medium will intensify the photon flux and begin lazing. To control this, a saturatable absorber is used in the laser cavity. The absorber has a finite number of charge carriers that can absorb spontaneous photon emissions, which allow the laser gain medium to charge up a greater number of its electrons. Once at a high number of electrons are in an excited state the spontaneous emission becomes so large, that no more charges in the saturatable absorber are available to absorb the laser photons, causing it to become transparent to the laser light. Suddenly, the number of photos in the laser cavity is able to reach the threshold value for lasing, and the gain media dumps all of its energy at once in a powerful pulse. I know I've probably left out some important details. I'll try and answer any questions in the comments if you ask :)
I've heard they are now also used in Retro Encabulators to aid the reduction of sinusoidal depleneration. th-cam.com/video/RXJKdh1KZ0w/w-d-xo.html
@@themattresspolice4040 ha I've seen this. Is there jargon you don't know that I could explain?
To my understanding, this is a really good description of what a Q-switch does. I wish that you wrote this to me a few years ago, as the other explanations I have heard were shit. I could have groked the concept many more years ago :)
Another thing that is interesting, the Y in YAG is from Yttrium which is named after Ytterby gruva, which is a mine here in the Stockholm region, Sweden 🇸🇪 ☺️
@@savagesarethebest7251that dang town is hogging all the element names. Yttrium, terbium, ytterbium, erbium, 1% of Swedish towns control 99% of element names
This is becoming one of my favorite channels, great quality in all aspects!
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoy it!
I’ve never even played d&d or any other game that needed a d20 but I still appreciate the HELL out the time ,dedication, and craftsmanship put into this masterpiece 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🥳
Ied love to see him get a gigantic synthetic diamond lol
This Die might honestly be one of the most beautiful ones you've done so far! It's STUNNING!
The Deep Red and Bright Green just sparkle so well together in this!
The amethyst one take the price
@@Staroy I love the amethyst one, but I think my favorite is the one he called "the sparkliest d20 ever," but I forgot the material it was cut from
@@StaroyI personally think the rose quartz one myself
Being kinda colour blind means it's lost on me. Occasionally I can see flashes of deep red, but the green just isn't there. I guess if you imagine it all being a colour somewhere between green and red (like orange?) and just momentary flickers of something deeper.
Your patience and perseverance are inspiring. The calmness as you realized that a piece had chipped off and scratched a facet was impressive, cause I feel like I would have immediately panicked and been frustrated. Your videos relax me so much, and the dice are always stellar. Thanks for doing your thing and sharing it with all of us.
Yeah I used to get more frustrated. But now I know you just have to take what the stone gives you and ,well, roll with it.
Pun = funny 😂
Even after reading this comment first, and watching the video after, his calm reaction bamboozled me. Doug really is one cold-blooded sort of faceter😅
@@hedronrockworks Ain't that life! Good wisdom.
Having a mild red-green colour deficiency, I cannot truly appreciate this dice and it is still a stunningly beautiful piece of art. Amazing video (as always).
Hi. Just wondering, is that a mild form of the general color blindness?
@@1000MilesAway Probably...it's quite common to have some level of red-green deficiency, especially in males. I do as well, but can still truly appreciate it.
@@1000MilesAwayyes. I can still see a wide range of colour but have some trouble with red/green combinations like this and some other colours to a lesser extent

Coming over from Rybonators video to let you know that d20 looks so stunning, even after he covered it in smugdes 😂
Yeah, he got so many finger prints on it! Haha that’s ok. It’s just how it goes. They are finger print magnets.
Absolutely wrecked it
Holy. Shite. My jaw literally dropped. I know you mentioned that the payoff would be cool once it's polished up. That the competing red and green would be amazing. But color me ignorant cuz I had no idea how amazing it would look. Seriously just... 😯 Amazing work. And the music on the reveal... *chefs kiss*
Man, the final reveal is unreal. This is probably going to be among my favorites you've made.
This reminds me of another lab originated stone, look up lutetium aluminum garnet, or "LuAG".
Would love to see you cut a D20 from it. It has a very intense green fluorescence when exposed to blue light.
I have a huge chunk of LuAG from turtles horde. I’m a bit intimidated by it. I really want to do something special with it.
Andrew blew my mind with the reveal as well.
If you had told me a couple of years ago i’d be hooked on watch a guy make D20’s out of various stones I wouldn’t have believed you. Everything you put on YT is just beautiful man
Wow. I did not expect the colors to come through so vividly after it was faceted. That is incredibly beautiful.
Man, I desperately want one of these dice. They're so beautiful.
Goblin brain wants shiny click clack rocks.
It really is red and green at the same time. wow
As GORGEOUS as these d20s turn out every single time, I’d love to see you make a whole dice set, some bigger dice, or some out of an odd material! Greats videos nonetheless, I watch every single one as they come out.
This D20 is absolutely *gorgeous*.
Cherry lime dice, naturalistic blood magic!
This is THE dice. Absolutely amazing masterpiece.
It certainly lives up to it's name!!! WOWWW
As someone who does woodworking and occasionally metal working, when you said 3000 grit, then 8000… I thought, okay yeah, get that thing really nice; then you said 50,000 for the polish, and I choked on my coffee.
That’s a lot of grit! But obviously, the sort of thing needed for such hard materials and such high finishes.
Fantastic work!
I love this channel for the ASMR part and the soothing atmosphere while creating something beautiful.
It´s nice there is still something like this left in this hectic world
Damn that's so pretty! And the orchestral swell at the reveal... I'm having goosebumps and tearing up!
🌟 Forbidden Chapstick 🌟
such a pretty dice!
It's always so awesome seeing a new video come out of your channel.
What a beautiful die and PERFECT choice of music!!
Never ceases to amaze me... :)
You pretty much accurately described Q Switching. It has to be done with materials with long Upper Lasing lifetimes like Neodymium. Basically the active material can stay energized long enough. The Q stands for 'Quality' and it's also called Q Spoiling. That's an awesome looking Die. Thanks for showing us this cool build.
Wow, another beautiful piece! Stay frosty!
That color is incredible! I didn't even realize a rock like that existed. Excellent work as always!
OH WAIT I DIDN'T PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER FROM HIS VIDEO. I found you a few months ago. I'm glad you're on this project collab.
Turtle's Hoard has so many cool shiny rocks I wish I had the equipment and skills to make into cool shiny stuff 😭
Utterly astonishing and beautiful
That is simply gorgeous. I'll buy an advent calendar for the chance to win.
I am always so excited whenever you upload! I would give an arm and a leg for the chance to learn everything you know!
I didn't know red and green could look so great mixed together.
Wow the glamor turn around looks incredible.
Keep doing what you are doing. Calm. Don't chase the TH-cam clicks. Love your vids as is.
I literally YELLED at the end 😮 you just continue to blow my mind to bits man.
Absolutely stunning. As always. 💎🎲
I've been dying to see this ever since the rough went out! And somehow it came out even better than I hoped!
Send him a bit of that glow in the dark stuff!
That is devastatingly beautiful. It would look so fantastic in a ring. If it's durable enough to withstand the wear and tear.
Truly exquisite. The numbers change a shade of color too
Absolutely STUNNING.
. . . The fact you did a collaboration with Rybonator is wonderful.
I personally was a big fan of the collab :p
It's definitely an interesting experience, seeing a crystal that's supposedly changing color between red and green, when you're red-green colorblind and cannot tell that any color change at all is happening.
The red and green compliments well in the light
Wow, this material is stupid beautiful!
These dice are always beautiful
I’m red/green colorblind and I’d love to see this in person. If nothing else, I think it would be hilarious to insist there’s nothing special about the color to everyone else.
How beautiful! Wonderful video.
I can not think of a better gift to my dice gobbling husband. His favorite colors are green and red. This is wild! So awesome! This very nearly brought me to tears so beautiful
I've heard of dice goblin husbands, but "dice gobbling husband" is a first! Does he have them with anything, or does he just snack on them like walnuts? ;-)
I'm with you on the beautiful part. I didn't tear up, but I did get a bit misty-eyed, which is not something I'd *ever* think I'd say in relation to a polyhedral die, and I've been watching this channel for a while now.
@@Ryan_Thompson lol gobbling was 100% a typo or autocorrect 😅
Wow, now that is stunning!!!! Magical looking!
You definitely have the master craft touch. Beautiful pieces. Also a joy to watch the care you take on every piece.
That reveal at the end was incredible! Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful!
That end result is one of the most beautiful die I’ve ever seen I dropped an audible “omfg” when I saw it you truly produce one of a kind works of fine art never stop
i was sceptical at first as the stone didnt look great. but at the end I was amazed. this might be one of the best ones you have made
Just stunning! I'm lost for words.
I love all your work! you are so amazing!
Absolutely breathtaking.
Loved the dramatic reveal at the end with the swelling music, it really made the final product so much more special.
Definitely deserved that musical drop, nice work dude
Cr:YAG is such a beautiful synthetic to work with, but I love the other dopped YAG and YAC synthetics as well! Nd:YAG is a gorgeous Pink-Lavender, while Ce:YAG is Construction Yellow and provides AMAZING facets and color bouncing.
The difference for those in the comments between YAG and YAC is YAG is Yttrium Aluminum Garnet while YAC is Yttrium Aluminum Ceramic! (I am typing this up before I have watched the video, I'm just excited to see people working with YAG other than some Lapidaries that I know!)
Er:YAG is Orangy/Peach
Stunning work. The more I watch you work, the more I want to learn this skill.
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS DIE SO MUCH OHMYGOSH I WISH I COULD HOLD IT IN THE PALM OF MY HAND! THESE TWO COLOURS COMBINED ARE MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE
Perfect final reveal music, keep it up!
Your work is spectacular and these videos are all enchanting. Thank you so much for showing the process.
It is simply amazing what you do here!!! I am just in Awe watching these videos.
I wish these dice weren't as expensive as they are but the amount of effort and craftmanship that goes into each one completely justifies the price. Sadly one will never be mine but I can at least live vicariously through these videos.
Waow just magnfic !!! Congrats 👍👍👍
Damn you weren't kidding when you anticipated beauty once it's faceted!
Awesome editing with music, and stunning results. It looks amazing, almost unreal.
Any idea who the composer for the song at the end?
I know it’s classical and I feel like it’s at the top of my head but I can’t place it or the name of the actual song.
I feel ya on those scratches. I'm grinding out a 12.5 inch telescope mirror (totally different than what you're making) and I got down to 15 micron grit and ended up getting some scratches from the tool. I tried to do a bit of surgery on the tool and ended up making it worse. So I've ordered some circular tiles rather than square ones and will make a completely new grinding tool to reduce the chances of scratches in the future. I'll have to go back and regrind it from maybe 220 grit onwards ending with 5 micron before going for pitch polishing.
Beautiful work, and stone.
Just... Wow, amazing result.
Wow, that is a stunning final result
I liked the explanations of your process.
Love your videos. The chill vibe and the dope D20's. Good work.
This channel is so therapeutic
PLEASE keep these videos coming! I don't even play games with dice, but I'm fascinated with the process. Your video format is captivating!
I love how relaxing these are to watch.
OMG is that a glimpse of a TI-89 at 1:38?!
Absolutely love your content, so soothing and satisfying to watch this process.
Interesting how much color variation there is here. The reflection on the table from the finished die is almost totally different than the main die. It's almost trippy.
So beautiful! ❤❤👍👍
I'd definitely pay something to get a set of laser crystal dice. Cr:YAG, Nd:YAG, ruby, so many good options to pick from and they'd all be gorgeous
Another beautiful piece, well done
The quality of your videos has only gone up since I've started watching, well done.
This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen
ROLLLLL IT! I love these videos but I'm dying to see each of these get rolled across some velvet. Thanks for the great content!
Rybonator rolled it in his video
@@hedronrockworks thank you I'll check that out!
Hearing you talk about some of the “secrets” for the craft is awesome! Keep it up with this amazing art you are producing and much love from Denmark 🙏
That is absolutely gorgeous.
There is something beautiful relaxing about this vids that love. Very pretty result!
So smart to use this material
Awesome. Truly looks amazing.
The dice you make are amazing! Also the crystal of this video is very pretty.
Holy moly that is beautiful. And it looks so hefty and satisfying to roll! I'd love to see a fist-sized gemstone D20 if such a thing is at all possible.
I literally gasped seeing the final result!
Perfect colors for christmas!
Ive never been emotionally moved by a... d20. Respect.
Your videos are so therapeutic
Exactly THIS is why i love the internet and youtube. To see such moments late night and simply enjoy this man´s passion. keep going!
its so unique and perfect it looks a finished blender project
Literally so perfect I can see a speck of dust that settled on it
