I upgraded my gaming pc from an Intel Xeon W-2135 (6core/12threads 4.5 GHz max boost) to an Intel i5-12600K last December. I think I’m starting to regret my decision of going with Intel now that LGA 1700 is officially dead(as in no more new cpus). I feel like I should have gone with a Ryzen 5 7500F. But it would have probably increased the cost of my whole build by $300 at least. I would need an expensive AM5 mobo and DDR5 RAM. My total build cost was $850. I have a RX 6700 XT, i5-12600K, 32GB DDR4 3600, and ASROCK Z690 Extreme mobo, a 1TB SN770 SSD, a Cooler Master 850W 80+Gold rated PSU, a MSI MAG ATX case, and a Thermal Take 240mm AIO(I got this for ONLY $40!!!!). So, was I right to go with the i5-12600K?

I bought it back almost 2 years ago as platform upgrade (had a i7 2600 rig which i only used for about a year after upgrading it so much over the years XD) Although i'm still bit bitter on not waiting for cheaper prices as i did buy it new in June '22 buut then again i was considering buying a used R5 3600, but since i heard some people having issues with them i decided to avoid it. Anyway it's still chugging along since then i don't really regret buying it, just regret not waiting a bit so i could've saved bit more money :)
That's my cpu too! I don't want a pc that has a power consumption of a whole kitchen appliances turned on. This cpu is perfect when electricity isn't cheap.
Interestingly enough, if you download chipset drivers for a b550 board with this CPU installed, It downloads and applies the ryzen power plans. (Which as far as I know and can tell those power plans are only really applicable to Matisse chips, not Renoir.) I noticed for myself that the windows power plans give me much better performance, fps and frametimes. I could not believe how dogshit my performance was using this chip until I switched back to the high performance windows power plan which gave me the performance I initially expected. Can someone verify this?
I'd like to point out that the power consumption of this little guy is absolutly nuts, sits at or below 20w most of the time while pushing +60 frames. I have this CPU in my laptop (5500u) and it's a joy to use, it shred through code compilation without any issues.
Usually, the 4500 and 3600 kinda switch places as the cheapest 6 core CPU. But what i find offensive is that even a Ryzen 3 3100 has PCIe 4.0, but even the 4500 and 5500 only has PCIe 3.0 and the 4500 in particular only has 3.0 x8
4500 are not meant for new pc builder if your old intel skylake mobo from 6+ years ago died you can just get this with a cheap mobo and transfer everything over your old pcie 3.0 gpu will get significant boost from 6c12t cpu
I have seen listings of this CPU recently, and I was already suspecting, that this CPU likely has bigger drawbacks. It's better to just spend a little more, to get a Ryzen 5600 instead
Built a similar system for a friend late August 23. You could get a new motherboard and processor for just slightly over the £100 mark. Second hand market for AM4 motherboards and Ryzen 2xxx and 3xxx processors was worse than what was shown in the video with prices being higher than the 4xxx series and even similar chips for "new". Intel you were getting hit by lack of availability on the second hand market and new still had the Intel tax applied. While compromised slightly, it's a phenomenal chip for the price.
Yes, but just like he said IF you dont wanna take a risk in second hand market, this 4500 is not a bad choice at all. Because i know some people dont comfortable to buy second hand, they better buy new with 3years warranty and all. At cost slightly worse performance. Well im one of them

If you go by the fact that the 5000 series is better than the 3000 series, which is better than 2000 and so on, the 4000 should be ahead of the 3000 series. But, it isn't. The 4500 has slightly lower clock speeds, 1/4 the L3 cache, and much less PCIE bandwidth than the 3600, it's direct "predecessor."
I got this for 55 bucks with a coupon for my little brothers old budget ryzen 3 build. Got him to stop stuttering in many games and hes super happy with a nice 1080p monitor. Cant beat that for a new chip
I actually got this one for my PC, because I needed something with ReBAR support for my Intel Arc A580. So far, I'm happy with it, the performance is good (I do gaming at 1080p and 60 fps), except I'll need a new cooler as well, cause the stock one just isn't doing it. Even with new thermal paste, synthetic stress testing leads to temperatures just over 90 C, which is pretty bad at stock clocks (at ~4.2 GHz boost), even if no normal workload pushes the CPU that hard, neither games, nor streaming, nor video editing or compiling code.
I have a 4350g that will do 4.7 ghz no issues, Rather surprised your cores would not budge! Also boards are super picky with what bios you use with these "g" series apu's (i know this is a 4500....but it is a G cpu still) They will work but you get odd cpu turbo behavior etc.
It's kinda disappointing when tech tubers ignore power efficiency when reviewing cpus & gpus. It's one of the things that affects my buying decisions when building a pc.
I just don't get it, yeah cutting corners, but down to 8 MB of L3, that's just crazy. AMD of all companies seems to get how important L3 is to frame rate stability and percentile lows, yet this is what they produced? If it had 16 MB, it would be passable, better than many Intel cpus, but 8? Yeah, it's budget, but that's just crazy.
To be honest its a good enough cpu if all you want is around 60 fps in almost all titles in medium to ultra (depending on tilte) settings. I myself have it paired with a GTX 1080 and are very happy with this combo.
recently got a Ryzen 7 PRO 4750G super cheap for 50€. Originally wanted to simply resell it on ebay for 2x-3x the price as these are PRO chips and seem hard to get hands on. One reason being, its an efficient APU due to monolithic design and due to PRO features, it also supports ECC (oposed to non-PRO APUs). Now i am unsure if I should keep it for said reasons. When i upgrade my main rig to AM5, i could throw that 4750G into my current AM4 board, sell my non-ECC Ram, buy some single ECC stick and upgrade my NAS to use ECC, while still running an efficient APU
This along with the RX6600 have been on my radar for some time now for a budget gaming build Though... The 5500 is only slightly more and has some extra cache too!
This has the same vibes as when Intel nerfed the Celeron by cutting cache. Would love to see this compared to that FX! The 4500 seems to be better value than the 12100F in most cases, especially when considering that you can get AM4 motherboards for same or less than LGA 1700 ones. However, LGA 1700 has better upgrade potential if you dismiss the power costs of the i7/i9 CPUs. Otherwise, I would simply always pick AM4 at this budget.
I started with this CPU on my first AM4 board (and a GTX 770 lol) but I upgraded to the 5800X3D and got an RX6800. I bought this CPU quite literally BRAND new when it came out for only $99, and was kind of disappointed in the absolutely horrible reviews it got. I think some reviewers forget that some people can only spend the absolute bare minimum, at this time I was saving money and paying rent for 2 people so I just needed a computer that worked for basic stuff. Considering I already had the GTX 770 and a case, I was plenty happy with spending $250 total to build a computer with a new CPU/MOBO/RAM. That same Motherboard (B450M) powers my 5800X3D+6800 and sits in a new case with an AIO and plenty of RGB. And even though I use it for video editing and photoshop as well, it holds up just fine when compared to how it started lol
3:10 they dont have "better memory controllers", they are monolithic and thus dont have constraint in form if infinity fabric that needed to be in 1:1 ratio with memory controller and memory for better performance.
If anyone is considering a 4500, you should also price compare with the 5500. Both processors have similar deficiencies (pci versoin), but the 5500 is a fair bit faster. In my market, the price difference for the uplift is about $7.
Nice review👍👏 The cpu didnt get enough love when released, not one good review by major tech channels. But it was soon dirt cheap and a good entry level modern cpu. Nowadays, Ryzen 5000 starts to become too cheap, in Germany the 4500 is 72 vs the 5500 at 90 Euro. 5600x is 100 right now. I upgraded several low end b450 boards with the 5500 which was available here for 90 Euros. This cpu is doing well even with low end (may i say bad?!) vrms.

I really wish the 4500 was the official consumer version of the Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G, but no, they turned off the GPU cores, and left it at 1/4 the cache per core of the 3600
Whats funny is that the parent die of the Ryzen 5 4500 is more expensive to manufacture than the 3950x. I have 3x4650G, and 2x4750GE, they are AMAZING processors if you're looking for efficiency, my 4750GE based server draws only 26w with all of the drives spun down, but all 128GB of DDR4 running (these used to be 4200 but i think i dropped it down to 3200 for power savings as this drops power usage on the CPU as well as the RAM) These APUs when pushed to the limit can hit 4600-4800 RAM but that significantly increases power draw, IIRC over 100w at the socket. The 5000G can top 5000MT/s RAM but arent as efficient as my 5700G clocked to 3Ghz(same as 4750GE) is using around 40w despite only having 32GB of RAM, not having 10x3.5 inch drives/drive controller and no high speed network. It may be the 12 PCIe TV tuners, not sure, could even be the different power supplies. Speaking on efficiency i hope to try tuning my 8700G, but still messing around with overclocking. Right now its running DDR5 8000 in gear1 using XMP profile(not an EXPO kit) I'd like to see how close to 10k i can get, and see if i can push the GPU to 3.4Ghz at those speeds.
Like these tests, but some results are really strange, I guess it is because of the platform settings. 140fps in wz is what I get with an 10400f with an vega 64 at 1080p basic for instance.
If this one had PCI-e Gen 4‚ it would've been an absolute banger. Though it is no problem for my country as we can still get the R5 3600 that is slightly more expensive (somewhere around 10 - 15 Euro more)‚ and it manages to deliver every bit of bandwidth RX 6600 would require. But for some other stuff than gaming‚ this CPU is really nice. I would love to see it compared to the Ryzen 5 3600.

The Ryzen 5 4500 gets a lot of hate but after its price drop to $70-$80, it's a very solid CPU to buy new at its current pricepoint. Its only real competitor there is the i3-10100, and I'd say the Ryzen is a little better especially in multitasking. Maybe. That low cache might hurt it. There are better CPUs for under $100 though, the i3-12100 and Ryzen 5 5500 come to mind.
Probably the biggest competitor to the R5 4500 is it's predecessor, the R5 3600, which commonly costs about the same price as the 4500, but has 32MB L3 cache instead of 8MB, and PCIe 4.0 support instead of 3.0. At my local shops, it's a €2.50 difference in cost.
Have this in my homelab, pretty nice for something like that, cost me 40 quid and a 20 quid motherboard, sorted for less than any decent intel chip wouldve cost me. Just missing quicksync but i do mostly direct play/stream and the gtx 1050 handles the rest

On a side note, if you're on a B550 Mobo you probably wouldn't be looking at a Ryzen 5 4500 to begin with as it kinda defeats the purpose. If you're set on a B550 it's probably better to buy a 5600 instead as on principle if budget is that big of an issue you would have gone with a B450 instead as those are cheaper and would make more sense with a 4500 imo

I think I have learned more about pc parts because of this channel more then any other place on the internet and i'm glad of it.
got my r5 4600g series.... it's awesome Upgrade since my old machine came from Core 2 Quad era 😂😂😂😂
Oh hey it's my CPU! I bought it back almost 2 years ago as platform upgrade (had a i7 2600 rig which i only used for about a year after upgrading it so much over the years XD)
Although i'm still bit bitter on not waiting for cheaper prices as i did buy it new in June '22 buut then again i was considering buying a used R5 3600, but since i heard some people having issues with them i decided to avoid it. Anyway it's still chugging along since then i don't really regret buying it, just regret not waiting a bit so i could've saved bit more money :)
unless the next chip shortage comes along prices will always fall over time so you can always wait and save a bit more so i wouldnt feel bad about it.
(Which as far as I know and can tell those power plans are only really applicable to Matisse chips, not Renoir.)
I noticed for myself that the windows power plans give me much better performance, fps and frametimes.
4500 are not meant for new pc builder
if your old intel skylake mobo from 6+ years ago died you can just get this with a cheap mobo and transfer everything over
your old pcie 3.0 gpu will get significant boost from 6c12t cpu

Great video. Thank you.
You can pick used 3600 off Aliexpress for around 60€. Pretty good deal. Also it outperforms 4500.
Yep, AE is quite cheap, can get 5600 for 70 on sales.
yep but I don't trust Aliexpress 😒😒
Not in every country
Yes, but just like he said IF you dont wanna take a risk in second hand market, this 4500 is not a bad choice at all. Because i know some people dont comfortable to buy second hand, they better buy new with 3years warranty and all. At cost slightly worse performance. Well im one of them
@@pavelstoikov3780 You don't know how to use aliexpress. I've ordered many parts for PC off of it, and none of them died yet.

I upgraded from a Ryzen 3 2200G to this Ryzen 5 4500. I am currently waiting for it from Newegg.
Got the 4700s for around the equivalent of 90USD. Thats Mobo+Ram+CPU.
Thats the only 4000 series I would ( & did) buy.
I have a 4350g that will do 4.7 ghz no issues, Rather surprised your cores would not budge! Also boards are super picky with what bios you use with these "g" series apu's (i know this is a 4500....but it is a G cpu still) They will work but you get odd cpu turbo behavior etc.
That would lend credibility to the idea that these 4500s were failed 4600G/4650Gs.
It's kinda disappointing when tech tubers ignore power efficiency when reviewing cpus & gpus. It's one of the things that affects my buying decisions when building a pc.
bro what is it with the *? isnt it obvius that nobody will sue you if you didnt include it
And 4500 also draws less than 30w even when fully used by the game
I just don't get it, yeah cutting corners, but down to 8 MB of L3, that's just crazy. AMD of all companies seems to get how important L3 is to frame rate stability and percentile lows, yet this is what they produced? If it had 16 MB, it would be passable, better than many Intel cpus, but 8? Yeah, it's budget, but that's just crazy.
Agree, 16 should've been min!
It gets worse; the 6 cores are split into 2 3 core CCXs that each get 4MB of L3
🙂 sure but its not horrible, its way better than picking up a Celeron or Pentium
They have to make different tradeoffs in these chip designs. The 4500 is very efficient.
What the hell are those power consumption readings? Just 20 W is insane, it has to be wrong.
This along with the RX6600 have been on my radar for some time now for a budget gaming build
Though... The 5500 is only slightly more and has some extra cache too!
i've recently switched from ryzen 5 4500 to r5 5600x the difference is huge although this cpu is pretty solid i used for almost 1 year
I picked up a 8700k with mobo cpu cooler case 32 gb ram for 200 on eBay I added a 4060 and I’m loving it. I’m glad to see it tested in this video.
Intel & Nvidia ..... You really are an dumba ss
2600X . . 6c/12t , 4.25Ghz, 16MB L3 cache and can be had for $65 usd.
You are gaining 100 subscribers per video Mr. Iceberg, from my math you will get to 100k in no time!
AM4 is the gift that keeps on giving.
3:06 better memory controller (APU derived)
3:10 they dont have "better memory controllers", they are monolithic and thus dont have constraint in form if infinity fabric that needed to be in 1:1 ratio with memory controller and memory for better performance.
If anyone is considering a 4500, you should also price compare with the 5500. Both processors have similar deficiencies (pci versoin), but the 5500 is a fair bit faster. In my market, the price difference for the uplift is about $7.
sure, the prices dont make sense from location to location

You should definitely test ryzen 5500, it is a good balance for both cheap gaming and productivity.

I have 3x4650G, and 2x4750GE, they are AMAZING processors if you're looking for efficiency, my 4750GE based server draws only 26w with all of the drives spun down, but all 128GB of DDR4 running (these used to be 4200 but i think i dropped it down to 3200 for power savings as this drops power usage on the CPU as well as the RAM)
These APUs when pushed to the limit can hit 4600-4800 RAM but that significantly increases power draw, IIRC over 100w at the socket.
Seems like that 'Snake oil' runs through all the 'teams' which is a bit of a shame for new builders who dont know these product codenames.
If this one had PCI-e Gen 4‚ it would've been an absolute banger.
Arguably the best entry level CPU for the AM4 platform?
Have this in my homelab, pretty nice for something like that, cost me 40 quid and a 20 quid motherboard, sorted for less than any decent intel chip wouldve cost me. Just missing quicksync but i do mostly direct play/stream and the gtx 1050 handles the rest

Bought my 3600 in 2020 and I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon. I say it can last for another 2 generations.
How does this compare to the Ryzen 5 3600x??
Why not a curve tune and raise the power limits? If bios won't let you try PBO Tuner 2.
Why’d ya put the 7500f in only the jedi survivor bench? Would’ve been way better to see it in every game even if this is about the 4500
On a side note, if you're on a B550 Mobo you probably wouldn't be looking at a Ryzen 5 4500 to begin with as it kinda defeats the purpose. If you're set on a B550 it's probably better to buy a 5600 instead as on principle if budget is that big of an issue you would have gone with a B450 instead as those are cheaper and would make more sense with a 4500 imo
I wish this was 5500, only bit more expensive but Zen 3 architecture (albeit with 1/2 of cache of 5600), and almost always sold at tipping point of 100$ (+/- 5).
