Recently I've watched a lot of Pokemon Hardcore Nuzlockes (I mean A LOT). And I've convinced myself that they don't look so bad, so why not try one? But the most interesting ones have some sort of gimmick: for this one I can only use flying type pokemon. Lets see how it goes!

Yeah, I completely forgot about that spearow until I already got to Mt Moon. I did spend a few minutes there after beating my rival, but figured I’d get a stronger spearow right before/after Mt Moon, so only gave it a few tries.
I know your rules but catch 2 spearow [1st for team and 2nd for in game trade in vermillion you'll get a Farfetch'd]

I just started this run myself recently but kept getting walled by Misty ( I unfortunately lost my Butterfree to brock 😔). I think I'm gonna try using an ev trained Gyarados next time on her. Great video!
Yeah gyrados was a huge lifesaver shading misty, and through the whole run too!

You can, and I probably should have gotten him like that anyway, but since I had my elite 4 team planned and he wasn’t on it, I decided to save time and money.

Dang it, I should have done that! It didn’t even cross my mind.
You need to become champion AND have at least 60 pokemon registered in the pokedex to receive the national dex. You were actually pretty far from that Crobat.
It’s really cool to watch the Nuzlocke Poké community grow like this. You do a great job and I can’t wait to see you try other games 😉

I don’t remember if I taught gyarados water pulse, it’s been a while. Though I should have.
And yeah, everstone would have been helpful, buts it’s an item I literally never use, so I honestly didn’t consider it.
As for giga drain, if I remember correctly I used it on golbat because I wanted him to sweep Bruno’s team.

Nice nuzlocke, but you should be legally forbidden from using avatar names. You had a perfect opportunity to name the male Zubat Toph, referencing the play of the fire nation, were toph was portraited as a male using supersonic screaming to see. Like a bat! ZuBAT! 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Nice video bro. One thing I do want to say cuz I also do hardcore nuzlockes. There’s various ways to play monotype, some people Pokémon that are not the type yet, but will eventually evolve into the type for the nuzlocke. Some other people use strictly Pokémon that have the certain type for the nuzlocke and keep other people that will eventually evolve into the type in their party to receive experience. In your case you used magikarp in battle but not charmander which was odd, so maybe next time chose one of these rules and apply to stay consistent. Overall great vid and hope you had fun :).

Since grinding is so exhausting and annoying you should just hack in rare candies. Pokemon Challenges is 100% right that there's no good reason not to in Nuzlockes.

Didn’t use Charmander because it wasn’t a flying type yet you still used Magikarp in battle when it hadn’t evolved yet.

Good question. Technically I shouldn’t have used magicarp either, but since he’s a pretty weak guy, and was just about to evolve I just didn’t think much of it tbh.
honestly, you shouldn't count pseudo legendaries, in my opinion, many other people use them and they're not actually legendaries it's just a title that was given to pokemon with a higher base stat total than some other pokemon they still killable and don't make things super duper easy but if that's what you want id understand
I think I’ll play it by hear. Right now I’m running through a game and I plan on using a pseudo legendary because it’ll make things easier, but certainly not too easy.

In fire red you get Aerodactyl at level 5. Why is yours at level 47 straight away?
I typically just cheat in rare candies to make the runs faster, and not waste time grinding

This names are avata themed, and karata was just the first girl I found
FireRed/LeafGreen nuzlocke with given/trade pkmon only (Starter, Jynx, Poliwhirl , Farfetch’d, Evee, Lapras etc) which means no need to pokeballs, which means the run starts at the very first battle!
I had already planned on doing that actually! Though I hadn’t decided if I should do it in Gen 3 Kanto or Gen 4 Johto

Yeah you’re right, but in gen 1 she has the only ghost Pokémon that existed. So I kinda think of her as a ghost user 🤷♂️

why did you use Magikarp in battle but not Charmander? Also why not water pulse on Gyrados?
Mostly because charmander wasn’t going to evolve for quite a while, but magicarp could evolve within the lvl cap (he also wasn’t contributing a ton to battles believe me). As for water pulse, idk I really should have, I guess it was just me being an idiot.

You know, I've always wondered what happened to the clefairy bill was fused with. You don't see it come out the other side of the machine, nor do you see it anywhere else. Did it just go poof?

Yeah, he is flying type. I know sometimes people can confuse him with psychic, but nope. He’s bug flying
Scyther with technician and aerial ace is the strongest flying move in the game use that swords dance and sharp beak you can sweep with him
Why not allowing Golbat to become a Crobat?
Because in this game you need to beat the elite 4 to get the national dex, and golbat won’t evolve without it. In future runs, I’ve figured out ways around that.

So it is a special move in gen 3 because it’s dark, but it still makes contact. In future gens, almost all contact moves are psychical, with a few exceptions.

Good question. So I killed the spearow on route 3, right before Mt Moon but caught the second one on route 4, right after Mt Moon.

that was a pretty smart run! losing butterfree was a shame but it probably would only be good in the early game. lots of really smart moves like featherdance on pidgeot, just the variety of moves you gave pokemon. sacrificing critters like aerodactyl when it had the boost instead of trying to save it.
oh the half badge was from beating the fighting dojo.
something I've been trying to advocate to all the people running mono type hardcore nuzlockes: if a pokemon would evolve into something with a type that is eligible for the run, but is not currently eligible for the run (like your charmander or even magikarp) just use it. just make it part of the team, it'll be good when it evolves, so I say it ought to be good to use until then as well. I know obviously this technically doesn't work within the rules, since ie charmander isn't a flying type. charizard it. but this has always felt to me like needless splitting of hairs. I think it looks more frustrating to quibble about when you're allowed to use a pokemon, and how soon you have to box it, and try to grind it until it evolves into a pokemon who is eligible for the run, I think all of that looks more frustrating than anything.
The one legitimate problem I see, why this might be considered breaking the rules, is it gives you a potential extra pokemon earlier in the run than you might have otherwise. if you could use charmander against brock, that's another guy to take a hit and make the battle easier. but I think this is good! I think it can potentially minimize the frustration involved in early fights. especially when I see people do hardcore type lockes in bw, where sometimes you only get one encounter to take on the first gym. in these cases, you basically have to rely on luck to beat the first gym without dying to a crit or a high roll. I think if a challenge would give you a second critter to make the gym a little less luck dependent, that's more fun than trying to sack a few times until you get lucky enough to beat the gym. again, charmander is just another guy to take hits. but I think it should be valid. It's not like it can get metal claw that early.
the other thing is, of course, if you're using a pokemon earlier, because it hasn't evolved into the required type, you're still doing nuzlocke things. you're still putting it at risk of dying and not being useful later. if charmander died to a rock tomb, you wouldn't have charizard later, which could have cause a loss later on in the run. I guess losing later in the run would hurt worse than losing in the first gym. but what I'm trying to get at is that it seems to me like you should be able to use a pokemon in a typelocke, if it evolves into that type, without worrying about how it's not the right type yet.
but really, good work. I'm not trying to be a nuisance about the degree to which you follow the rules, I just have strong opinions about how people run nuzlockes. from seeing so many people play them.
Yeah butterfree (and most bugs for that matter) tend to be pretty good early game and then loose their edge. As far as using a Pokémon who will become a specific type, that’s all up to personal preference. I get what your saying, but for me with charmander for example, it takes 4 badges before he can actually become flying type. I think that is a bit too long to go using a non-flier in a flying type run. But again, it’s all just personal preference, that’s the beauty of runs like this.
You should try fairy type, it's my fav, not because it walls mighty dragons, but because these small pinkish creatures are filled with unbelievable powers 😁
At the moment, I’m planning on a fairy run to either x or y, but that might change. I’m currently just going through every region one at a time

Yeah that’s a bit inconsistent isn’t it? Mainly because charmander is a good Pokémon, and magicarp isn’t going to be Turing the tides of battle anywhere. And magicarp could evolve with the current lvl cap but chamrmander had several gyms before he could.
You were lucky not to accidentally overlevel Gyarados when fighting Sabrina since Koga also shares the same level cap

True, but he was used for HMs, and not in battle. That is often acceptable in nuzlockes where you have limited Pokémon

Yeah, I figured a flying type run kinda goes with sore benders so it was natural
if u dont like grinding u can use a rare candy cheat but u need to stick to the level caps many people use it like flygon hg and pokemon challenges
plus if u start a gym battle and u level pass the cap its fine because u need to be at the lvl cap at the start of the battle i think you already know this but i am just saying this if u dont know but great vid
I actually wasn’t sure about the rare candy part tbh. I did a bit of that here, but tried to avoid it because I didn’t want it to seem like I cheated.
For the lvl cap, I did know that, but generally will only plan to level up in the gym if I feel it’s really necessary.
@@NuzlockeJoe rare candy use doesn’t really seem like cheating to me for a hardcore nuzlocke. If anything it’s a handicap because you’re not getting EVs from training.
