I wanted to buy ASUS TUF B650 motherboard ... I'm glad that i wasn't that naive and bought MSI MPG B650 Edge instead. One year later still no problems. Paired with 7800x3D and 7800xt.

AM5 board can take up to 2-3 minutes sometimes on the first boot. I am so very happy for you. Nice fix! Make this your new PC.

It should be illegal and sue-able to reject warranty for something that isn't the root cause of the problem. Asus is infamous for this. The owner should mail Asus Taiwan regarding this.

It is illegal in some countries like the US to refuse warranty for unrelated issues.

You should put a vacuum cleaner nozzle next to the MOSFET when you grind so it keeps it dust free so you can see precisely, ie, less chance of over-grinding with clear vision.

Tilt your board on a slant and use distilled water to wash away debris as you dremel so you don't grind into the board to far. Flush generously with isopropyl 90% and blow dry the board.

This is still the biggest hurdle with am5. Can get am5 mobos for a fair price now, ddr5 is finally quite affordable, but the CPU are still so expensive! Was hoping for the 7600 to get much cheaper now 9000 series out but it hasn't happened! Even perhaps they should have released a 4 core 7400 for basis office tasks to start the phase out of am4!
Great repair though, I'm not surprised you were nervous hitting the power button after paying out for a CPU!

I think grinding off is always best instead of heating the board too much since almost always the mosfet is welded

This is great news. I did drop a comment a while ago asking about if you could fix an Asus AM5 X670E-F. It has power to the rgb, but no response to power pins. I think there is a short, but it was becoming a rabbit hole. I tried looking at it, but its WAY beyond me.

AFAIK, very often, as you said, the VRM is overbuilt for handling R9 CPUs, and to work at lower temps, since reviewers like Hardware Unbloxed give attention to that in their reviews nowadays

I have one MSI B450 motherboard running with 3 phases instead of 4 for years now. The CPU is only 65W so it handles it. Here on this board it should be totally fine even with overclocked 16-core, but this board stands as a proof that no matter how strong your VRM is, you can always hit a faulty component that trainwrecks everything.

  • @DarkAngelz195
    @DarkAngelz195 หลายเดือนก่อน

amazing video! just one thing to point out, this is a B650 variant not the x670e you have in the title 😉. I actually bought this exact model to fix as well, with a short on the 12v cpu line too, but the mosfets on mine look all intact physically. Is there any tips on how I can test the mosfets individually to see wich one is malfunctioning?
Keep up the good work, I'm always on here to see when you upload next, love your content and learned soo many things regarding mainboard repairs!

Should try take off the mosfet next to it before using the dremel. You will have a visual reference and you avoid heating it excessively.

Hello. AM5 boards consume almost 100W at the end of p.o.s.t. They don't like pico psu and different memory modules. That kind of DrMos failure often kills VRM controller. You're lucky one. Flat and less aggressive milling cutter do the job.

this happens to me while soldering the mosfet with a hot air set @ 370c its been like 3 minutes and the mosfet still won't come off to the pcb that it cracks because of the long heat exposure, i dont know if my hot air aint strong enough, I will try to get a piston powered hot air nxt time

Great repair, Pretty bad that Asus refused warranty on this as its clearly a failure on the hardware itself and not the marks on the board, Just shows you that they do not inspect the boards properly or make any sort of logical decisions with these RMAs...with that said, I had a fantastic RMA experience with Gigabyte.

Hello, I have a ASRock taichi lite b650e motherboard that I have narrowed down what the issue is somewhat and wanted to see if you could take a look at it? I would RMA it but I damaged one of the holes where you screw it into the motherboard when I over tighten it. Every time I touch a certain part of the motherboard with my finger. It starts to boot up all the way into bios, even into the windows instal usb. Mouse and keyboard both work but the moment I take my finger off the motherboard it freezes and my mouse no longer moves and the debug led goes back to reading “00’. I think maybe something needs to be re-soldered but I’m not sure. I can let you know more if you’re up for it. I am willing to pay for the repair. Don’t want to lose the money for this board if it can’t be Rma’d 😢
