The comment about looking more around the basement is that in camera mode when you clip outside the maps there's giant puppets in each separate map piece that loads. It's pretty neat.
31:50 I just realized, the act of a player finding something insignificant to interact with, as it takes away control of the camera, makes the player think they are completely safe... A perfect time for a jump scare. If I was motivated to make a horror game, id use this.
I'm not sure if it makes the player feel completely safe cause I was expecting something to jump on his back during that. Especially because of how it was zoomed in and I couldn't see even from the corner of my eyes, gave me slight anxiety.
At first I was like “context??!?” But then I realized it’s a teaser and holy hell I gotta say what a good way to tease the game. Really gets you invested, shows you what it’s all about upfront, and makes you want to play from the start to see how it got to this point. Personally really excited for the final release
It's super interesting how it takes a lot of elements from resident evil but makes it its own. One of the main things I like is how when you get attacked you have multiple chances to get up and either run or fight it's not an immediate game over (with the stereotypical jump scare added to it). It makes it feel like it wants to scare you with the atmosphere and not just using cheap tricks.
I’m so glad that Mark is catching up on the games he missed during his time working on Space! I love this game so much already and I hope he does too 💜
Marks instant fear and sadness over the fact that he shot the rat/mouse is so hilarious and then the cheap of i'm ok that makes him so happy again is even more hilarious.
Mark: "This place looks like it is the most friendliest place on earth" Muppet: *goes into detail about how he violently beats up his friend for upsetting him* Yeah...friendly.
16:04 Fun fact, that feature started out... As a bug. Until the beta testers were like "That was scary... LEAVE IT IN!" Also it reminds me of that JIM moment in In space with markiplier xD
Hey Mark, I just wanted to clarify what the devs meant by taking another look in the basement. In camera mode you can no clip through walls which you have shown, but you didn't notice is that some of the areas if you go outside of the map, you'll find giant versions of the puppets that hover over the rooms. Hope this helped a little, thank you :)
lol, 3,955 Comments as of now, and this is the only one addressing the "take another look in the basement". I thought I was gonna have to go on without knowing what it was about. Thank you.
besides the giant models of puppets, I've also found a secret mouse room with another cheat tape in it, and there's other secrets too, like hidden doors which do nothing, a giant door with a picture of someone on it, which has a key behind the giant door, that does nothing, also where the giant door with a key behind it is, there's something way in the distance behind it, but I tried travelling to it for like- 15 minutes or so, and it didn't seem to get closer, so if you have camera mode, and you know how to modify the game to let yourself go extremely fast, then go to that giant door, look behind it, you'll see what looks like about 5 pixels, fly towards those pixels, and if you get there let us know what you find.
This is basically a kid-friendly (so far) Resident Evil 7 with the "enemies don't stay dead" mechanic from the Resident Evil 1 Remake. I absolutely love it. I actually went through the effort of going through the demo on Un-Friendly difficulty legitimately and it certainly lived up to the name. It required detailed knowledge of the map layout, knowing how to get around enemies and smart usage of the very limited items you get. A perfect example of a tough but fair challenge.
Oh I see this game taps into a primal fear… *overstimulation.* With how the puppets are always talking and yelling, not to mention the bright colors. It’s a lot to handle all at once.
He means modern "survival" horror games, where the "survival" aspect is just a suggestion because ammo and armor is in abundance. The concept of actually saving your supply until absolutely required is foreign to him.
I don't know if you've seen a certain horror games video where he turns a sniper rifle into a semi automatic, then perishes because he ran out of ammo lel
Mark: I thought it had a secret message in it The poster: "The Janitor -isn't- is your friend, there is a buddy in the ceiling, why are you still -read- reading this? the light is leaving all of us"
This game is giving me some heavy Bioshock vibes. Especially when the dude was cemented holding the bolt cutters. Also the enemies talk nonsense like splicers.
Same, the health station, the neon lights and subterranean setting? It's like they mashed RE mechanics, Bioshock aesthetic, and the popular kid theme indie genre [Poppy Playtime and Bendy] together, and executed it surprisingly well.
I'm so excited for the full game. It's like Sesame Stree meets FNAF meets Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I rarely play horror games but this might be one I have to play myself.
"What's with the big hole?! Who designed any of this? WHY DESIGN ANY OF THIS?" Says the man who spent the entirety of the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe wishing that the infinite hole would be implemented as an actual feature! This is what you wanted! You _asked_ for this!
This game actually looks extremely well made, if they spruce up the animations - especially the grab and death ones - this will be very cool. Also extremely heavy RE inspiration, which I like.
Mark admitting that "listening to that insanity any longer would have an affect on" his brain resonated with me, because it was unsettling. The voice acting + the video editing = trippy experience. Also, that conversation about making friends with people who will forgive you is a great PSA to others about toxic friendships!
10:08 The impulsive manner of all gamers; testing, reacting with guilt, then relief. Then followed most likely with continuous genocide or complete pacifism and love.
You probably won't see this Mark, but THANK YOU for adding humor to the world! When I have rough days, you're the TH-camr I watch to help me remember to just have fun and let loose in the face of stressful situations. Maybe it's a silly parallel to dealing with life situations, but it's definitely helped me :) Thanks!
The concept and art style it’s just beautiful and really interesting, I do think that there’s still work to be done, but I really hope we get a full release in the future to see it’s full potential!
It really took me too long to realize that "My Friendly Neighbor" is a play on words opposite of "Resident Evil," if it wasn't already apparent by the direct influences such as the map, inventory management, and puzzles.
Even though it's been a while since this came out I completely agree. I thought honestly I seen him play this but I guess not aside from the demo here. Please mark play this! Its good fun!
This game has alot going for it, chock-full of charisma and fascinating gameplay. Its very different from a normal horror shooter reminiscent of Resident Evil but I wouldn't call it a parody definitely inspired but its a fun twist on a story shooter with more suspension than dread. It's goofy atmosphere combined with the almost comical gameplay makes for a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Don't forget the voice work either, all of the characters feel unique and have distinctive voices especially the main character, im a sucker for the New Yorker mafia boss accents. All around a great demo, I hope it can become a full game at some point.
By the way, did anyone else notice that in the office which Mark enters (where he got the shotgun type weapon) there's a movie poster titled "The Shadow Sapphire"? Obviously a reference to Jim Henson's "The Dark Crystal"
It seems like none of the youtubers I've seen play this game noticed the posters. There are also references to Muppet Treasure Island, Labyrinth and Fraggle Rock
@@andreah9587 and to be fairer, the ammo for that shotgun is nearly nonexistent. The game provided ammo for the pistol in spades because the shotgun is an optional weapon. You could easily miss it and beat the game without it.
7:50 sometimes forget the fact that Mark just has basically memorized the live action Grinch Then he does something like this, and it all comes back to me
You know my favorite part about this game BY FAR? It’s not really trying to be a horror game… it’s just the puppets doing silly and also murdery puppet things. Thankfully it doesn’t fall into the “Cutesy thing is all spookums now!”
I got to demo this game at PAX East and the developers are absolutely lovely people. I would 100% recommend supporting them and their games :) they've got a lot going for them
Markipliers style is unique. He is chaotic as frag and miss' simple stuff. He plays like your average gamer. But gets complex puzzles with ease. Others spent ages trying to work out the keycards. He got through with ease. That's on of many reasons why he's awesome.
@@badcornflakes6374 I subbed during the original Slender playthrough. Mark has always been chaos incarnate but he's also smart. I think a lot of the time he acts goofy but then he hits a puzzle and reminds us of that. Like in Among Us, dude called Mark incompetent and Mark took it personally and just obliterated everyone.
The fact that you said this game had a "very Grim Fandango vibe to it" made me SO HAPPY!!! I know you immediately followed up by saying that you've never played it, but the fact that you know it even exists makes me smile!

I haven't seen a game this "simple" freak out Mark this much. Maybe it's the fact that some of the puppets tapped into his fear of mannequins or something. XD
The fact that the puppets just basically never shut up makes their mad ramblings so much more unsettling.

Lixian: pulls a picture of Mark
31:50 I just realized, the act of a player finding something insignificant to interact with, as it takes away control of the camera, makes the player think they are completely safe... A perfect time for a jump scare. If I was motivated to make a horror game, id use this.
He jumpscared himself with an "E" so the Devs wouldn't have to. lol
something like the choir boy jumpscare in bioshock infinite (except in that case the lever was a compulsory "interact" )
I'm not sure if it makes the player feel completely safe cause I was expecting something to jump on his back during that. Especially because of how it was zoomed in and I couldn't see even from the corner of my eyes, gave me slight anxiety.
There's games that did that, so not something new.

Hey Mark, I just wanted to clarify what the devs meant by taking another look in the basement. In camera mode you can no clip through walls which you have shown, but you didn't notice is that some of the areas if you go outside of the map, you'll find giant versions of the puppets that hover over the rooms. Hope this helped a little, thank you :)
thank you for being the comment I was looking for
lol, 3,955 Comments as of now, and this is the only one addressing the "take another look in the basement".
"I'm good at videogames"
*Mark proceeds to waste his ammo without realizing what he's doing till he's done*

Same, the health station, the neon lights and subterranean setting? It's like they mashed RE mechanics, Bioshock aesthetic, and the popular kid theme indie genre [Poppy Playtime and Bendy] together, and executed it surprisingly well.

There's something weird about this game and the insane puppets and dolls that make it actually way scarier than normal horror games.

Poor take.
By the way, did anyone else notice that in the office which Mark enters (where he got the shotgun type weapon) there's a movie poster titled "The Shadow Sapphire"? Obviously a reference to Jim Henson's "The Dark Crystal"
