@Shythalia It is an important distinction to make, since intrusive thoughts are mainly a symptom of mental disorders or extreme stress, while impulsive thoughts are not. “What kind of demon keeps their blinds open at night?!?” I deeply feel that comment!😂 I also cannot stand for any non-clear shower curtain to be even halfway closed! But if already closed at night I had severe anxiety & fear of opening it myself. To the point I would complain if my family left them closed. My family used to laugh at me about it saying I had watched too many scary movies. I had decided to stop being so paranoid & work through my fear. I went to the bathroom late one night(like 11pm). The shower curtain was closed & normally I would’ve snatched them open before sitting on the toilet(I’m female fyi). So I forced myself to go ahead & use the toilet. But once done I couldn’t resist anymore, started to move the shower curtain looking down towards the inside of the tub…and *saw dirty feet!!* 😳😳 I screamed while bolting out of the bathroom not even taking a split second to see more than the feet! My husband came running & barged into the bathroom to confront the intruder. Turned out it was my oldest nephew…16-17 at the time…who unknowingly to us had begun severely sleepwalking & had sleepwalked into our house! We share a yard with them & him as well as my other nieces & nephews had slept over at our house many times. One of us had forgotten to lock our front door after letting our dogs out. Needless to say me screaming like someone was attacking me in our small bathroom both jolted my nephew awake & terrified him. My husband was demanding WTH he was doing in our bathroom which scared my nephew even more. Then my husband realized something wasn’t right, took a deep breath & began trying to talk to him calmer but had to leave talking to him to my mom(who lives with us)so he could check on me bc I have a heart condition. I came extremely close to needing to go to the ER as when I put on my heart monitor it was alarming for severe tachycardia & arrhythmia. But I managed to go try & talk to my nephew telling him it was ok but to please tell us why he was there. I finally got enough out of him to grasp he had been sleepwalking. Which was confirmed when my brother came over to collect him after my mom called him. They had begun having to put an extra lock on both doors leading outside but had forgot that night. After that night they also added a sensor that made a loud noise if the door was open without it being disabled. Thankfully he only sleepwalked so severely(aka leaving the house)for a couple years. -Needless to say neither my husband or mom has EVER laughed at me for demanding the shower curtain *stays open!* 😅😅
the song at the end of the game in the credits is called “it’s been a long, long, time” and the chorus goes “kiss me once, and kiss me twice, then kiss me once again. it’s been a long long time. haven’t felt like this my dear since can’t remember when. it’s been a long long time”. it’s one of my favorites and i think it’s very fitting for this game and shows the happiness of the people finally being released and being able to feel what they want again.

That ending, where you save everyone's soul, including Tom Thomas himself, from the corrupted entity, was wonderful. I enjoyed playing Broken Through. The horror experience is well done. Each of the levels is both frightening and enjoyable. The atmosphere is spooky. The environment is unsettling. The entire story of this horror game is very good and astounding. Jordan Lindgren did phenomenal work in developing and making Broken Through. Much appreciation to the people who've helped make the game. I really like retro-style horror games! Broken Through is a great horror game. Broken Through is an awesome and terrifying horror game.
This is the first game Mark has played that has genuinely scared me in years. I could feel the disturbed core of the caretaker imbued in this game from a mile away. The caretaker and liminal horror. And Mandela effect type analog horror
It was definitely interesting how'd they put all of that together and managed to give a certain feel. I didn't think Analog horror, Liminal spaces, caretaker, and even scp 087-b can be mish-mashed and not get convoluted. It's a great horror game
There's definitely been a number of good ones and even some great ones in the past few years, but I agree that the VAST majority of the ones he plays aren't actually all that scary. The last one I remember that did just an all-around great job from beginning to end was Anatomy.

"Ahem, achyually issa magazine in almost all cases essept the 3.354% of cases where he was using clip-fed internal-magazine firearms" ~ some internet dude XD
I honestly thought this would be another horror game that is all creepy without a good ending, just a game meant to scare. But when the whole soul saving aspect showed up and the different levels for the people who needed help, it honestly was so, so touching! Mark's reaction to it as well was wonderful to see!
The villain escaping a game and the game's UI also leaving the game to help the protagonist would be an amazing whole premise for a triple A game on its own
i remember having a terrifying nightmare (for me, at least) as a child, in the nightmare i got lost from my parents in the middle of a huge crowd, and whenever i try to scream while seeking for them, my voice just couldn't be heard, (even by me) like everbody was just ignoring me, and there was nothing that i could do about it, because of this, i grew extremely cautious about my parents leaving/forgetting me in shopping center and other places like that
I had the very similar dreams! In one of them I was locked into a rollercoaster and my family left me. When I finally got off I tried to scream for help or even just ask someone to help me find them but I couldn't even talk. I could feel the hopelessness and strain of trying to speak but nothing comes out. So no one understood me when I tried to get help.
The dementia one is so great. Music therapy/reminiscence therapy is an actual treatment for literal dementia. So putting on a favorite song can be incredibly meaningful in that context I think it's really great how simple the soul saving solutions are though I wonder from a game development standard if they could've put in a mild puzzle of other options or dialogue options (if that had been something they could program in) so the player would feel more active in saying the right thing. The writing is lovely there though
Seeing how different Mark is on his new ADHD meds is really an experience😂 He’s quite a lot more sporadic and energetic and it’s such a mood as someone else with 80 HD’s
I love the idea that Carlos Bull-apparently a very elderly man with dementia who listens to 20s-era string music-was not only a gamer, but such a hardcore gamer that he picked up this random indie game, made by one person, that sucked him into the game world. The indie game market in the early 90s wasn't exactly thriving, but Link to the Past and Super Metroid weren't nearly enough for him. Ol' Peepaw here was apparently scouring obscure newsgroup forums for the hot new indie projects. I'm sure the first thing he did when he got home with the game was pop off his suspenders, take out his dentures, and put in that floppy disk.
The most true part about saving the souls in this game is how little it takes to do so. All it takes to help people is just by talking to them for just a moment, it makes them feel important and loved again, and i think thats beautiful

After that? Or were you like that before the “nightmare”. Do you have separation anxiety or an extreme fear of abandonment?
The dementia one is so great. Music therapy/reminiscence therapy is an actual treatment for literal dementia. So putting on a favorite song can be incredibly meaningful in that context
I think it's really great how simple the soul saving solutions are though I wonder from a game development standard if they could've put in a mild puzzle of other options or dialogue options (if that had been something they could program in) so the player would feel more active in saying the right thing.
