WK:34 on my electrical journey.
I focus this week on the electrical regs that effect those that choose to work on electrics in the UK. A popular myth is you need to be an electrician to carry out electrical work. In reality you need to be COMPETENT. One way of being competent is by following the requirements of BS7671. This is what distinguishes dodgy electric work from 'proper' electrical work.
Each week I'm sharing my electrical journey, getting used to the camera, presenting and building contacts. Why? To share the energy transition journey! The modern day equivalent of the industrial revolution.... Ooo whatever could I have planned...

Definitely a clean book. Use post it notes to write things on that you stick in the book, easily removed for the exam and no traces in the book.

I was wondering if I will get away with sectioning the parts with coloured tabs. Just to make the process a little faster

The book doesn’t really get rewritten, every time a new edition comes out the simply makes a few typo corrections and add two or three new regulations also they might shorten a sentence Or add a couple of words to a sentence.

Don’t get too bogged down in the book , you’re not expected to know the book inside out regulation by regulation, you’re only expected to know how to use the book to find the information relevant to a particular situation.

It crosses my mind that what if I did an installation and later realise that it doesn’t meet certain regs because I didn’t know part of the book was relevant to that install

Every thing you do will be relevant but some times a problem pops up and you will think to yourself if it’s right or not before you start ,that’s when you question yourself and get the book out and look for the answer to the questions that might arise. Once you’ve qualified and have all the knowledge you learned wile training and been doing the job for two or three years you will be surprised how often you don’t even look at the book.
