I see Buffett's move as a major portfolio diversification in the medium term. The high interest rates, the low taxes, and the slowdown in Apple's product cycle, with their stock at its peak, seem like reasonable business opportunities for cashing out and holding that amount in short-term treasury bonds. I would be worried if those were long-term bonds.

Diversification is the secret to optimal performance. This is why I have my interests set on market sectors based on performance and projected growth, such as the EV sector, renewable energy, Tech, and Health. Keep investing regularly and you'll be blown away how much it can change in a few short years. Here's to $1 million and to FIRE

Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over. This is for stock holders.

Unfortunately, most people don't get this, the majority is after chasing tops/bottoms where they fail & get out of the game. Therefore, in the current bear market, we should pay more attention to the risk rate of the market. We must control the risk to a minimum and improve earnings. It is best not to blindly enter the market.

Good rational analysis. But let's not forget: only bc Berkshire cannot find a good place to put money in, it does not mean there are no opportunities. He also stated that. Berkshires problem is that they have lots of money and it does not make sense to invest in small capitalized companies because it would "hardly move the needle". He only does not find good investments in the size that is relevant for Berkshire.

And people sometimes forget that Berkshire is not a stock fund but an investment company. I am only saying that the focus of Berkshire is different to most of us mere mortal retail investors. BTW Berkshire did buy into OXY heavily.

Yeah the whole Berkshire thing is a bit mind-boggling for me. It's a lot different than when it was smaller. Now there are so many companies it owns like Geico and also such extensive investments. So now if Buffett just sold all of Apple stock in one swoop, even if he should do it, it might crash the stock just by Berkshire's influence. So he is surely cognizant of these kind of potential effects from Berkshire movements when making his decisions. It's just interesting how he parses all that out and decides on the exact number of Apple shares to sell, just the number of factors he's now likely using to make those decisions

One question though... was this video meant to also call out the fact that huge tax cuts from 1960 through 1990 have resulted in the average poor to middle class Americans having a far greater debt-to-income ratio now than ever in the recent (last 120'ish years) history of the country (excluding anomalies surrounding The Great Depression)?
I mean, the concept was supposed to be that if we gave huge breaks to corporations and we left regressive income taxes in place, we would see all those savings trickle down to the poor and middle class... but it would appear that this strategy has produced the exact opposite effect.
My Dad was only making $12 - $18 per hour working at a GM transmission plant in Indiana back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s... yet he provided for a child, owned 2 vehicles most of the time, and lived alone in a home that only cost around $30,000 (for 3 BR, 2 full baths, and 1,600 square feet on a small city lot).
Now I still live in Indiana, own a bigger home but it's valued at $360,000 (twice the square footage and garage space but TWELVE TIMES THE VALUE) and I have to make almost $100,000 per year just to be able to pay my bills and have enough money left over each month to invest a significant enough amount that I feel "safe".
But here's the rub. Those cars my Dad owned in the 80s and 90s? Maybe $18,000 brand new (Buick Skylarks, Oldsmobile 88s, etc.)... now days we spend 3-6 times as much on fixed expenses (the water bill in my small hometown used to be $10.46 a month in the mid-90s, it's now $85.00 per month just 30 years later!!!) - so a new car might **ONLY** be 2x -2.5x as much today as it was 30 years ago, but where is the money for the payment coming from?
Most people make far less than $100,000 per year in "Middle America", so how are they supposed to pay for anything beyond a tiny home, a used car that needs a lot of upkeep, and nothing beyond cheap food and a smattering of recreation?
I feel like this video may have inadvertently exposed a very real problem with how we've handled the fiscal management of an entire nation for the last 70 years! 😢😢💸💸

Thanks for the comment, you made some good points. Only thing I disagree on is "we" at the end. "We" don't handle any fiscal mgmt. Big corps and gov make the rules and then tweak them to benefit themselves. Then they do something here or there for the masses (like raising the min wage) and the lowest earners jump for joy while the ones who aren't ignorant know the cost will be passed on to consumers almost right away. If we really want a say in how things are managed, we, the people, need to stop buying so much $ # it and eating like $ # it! Junk food is a crappy fuel and bad fuel leads to mental fatigue. Mental fatigue means its easy to sigh and let the elites continue to bend us over! I'm glad though that at least more ppl are making the effort to learn how things really work. Lets keep spreading important info 👍👍

We've been in a downwards spiral for decades. It's just due to the snowball effect that's it really starting to pick up steam. In the last 50 years the US dollar has lost around 85% of it purchasing power. Things are not worth more today the US dollar is just more worthless. They call it inflation because it sounds better.

Ever since the United States removed the gold standard and printed money endlessly, the dollar value has declined significantly. Which resulted in inflation and reduced purchasing power.
This is why back then anyone could have worked at a warehouse and still capable of buying a home, 2 cars, provide for a wife and kids, and still have money left over for savings.

There's a big elephant in the room here as well, corresponding to the old adage: "buy when there's blood in the streets". The more cash they have in reserve the more ultra cheap stock they will scoop up -if- when the market tanks, it could be next month, it might be 5-10 years from now, but it will, it always does, moving thru those familiar boom/bust cycles. It sounds to me like he thinks there could be a scenario where buying up cheap stocks is a likely opportunity in the future while most investors predictably panic and sell as they always do; and THAT is where just making money shifts into the column of being seriously wealthy.

So... Apple's business is not in a bubble, they are expecting to sell the same number of phones at the same level of profit as they have in previous years. The problem is that they are not going grow so the overvalued price of the stock will inevitably come down to reflect the actual dividends. Buffett is therefore selling early, probably with plans to repurchase the stock again once it has come down. Buffett has decided to beat the bubble bursting but may inadvertently have started the entire process.

Apple is highly dependent on TSMC manufacturing, and even without an open conflict between China and the US, an invasion of Taiwan would have major consequences for anyone overexposed to the tech sector. This man is smart. He is selling overvalued stocks right now. He will buy back shares when the price drops dramatically. That way he can buy twice as many shares when they lose half of their value. It's really smart business

I’m only 33 but I lived through the 2008 crash and all the pandemonium of Covid in mid 2020… one thing I’ve noticed even if a lot of the information is true is that panic and fear will rob people of logical thinking… I do like this channel as I just watched this video and think it was to the point without the hysteria.

If it is long term capital gains on large gains the tax is 20% to the feds, 3.8% to ACA and whatever percent your state takes. Corporate tax max rate is 21% plus the percent your state takes. They rarely mention that most states take a percentage.

Quite an insightful analysis on Buffett's recent massive stock selling, especially in Apple. It's a unique perspective on the future of America's finances and taxation. A master playing his moves.

It says something about how we've been treating the market when a good, old school, fiscally responsible sell and cash reserve move is such a maverick action that people are questioning Buffett's sanity.

uh, put in less money, for one. You lose less money that way, but you also gain less money, it's a lot less impactful on your daily income. Another big thing, especially for tech is being able to predict a rise in stocks, for nvidia, it would be AI, for AMD, it would be ryzen, for intel it would likely be now considering they're going through a huge scandal, and they're also a manufacturing giant, so the likelihood that they outright die is basically zero, aside from maybe a government buyout liquidating stocks...
aside from that it seems like you just need a really comprehensive macro view of the economics at play, and how they effect the market.
It seems there are a few good rules of thumb, stocks always trend up, long term investments are the best way to make lots of yield at low cost (including diverse portfolio obviously) second, if you see a stock price rising significantly, and it has previously risen, investing in it will only get you a set amount of profit, maybe even a loss, these are generally riskier bets. You want to show up before the rise, and leave prior to the dip. And obviously, only invest money that you're ok with losing. That's the easiest way to get shunned out the market.
