    The only disappointment for the franchise is that I know Po is the most important protagonist in Kung Fu Panda, I would have liked to see more of the Furious Five so it was a blessing to see Mantis and Crane in a least one scene and funny enough, I have The Secrets of the Furious Five before I saw the actual movie and later saw Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Scroll which was a short film about how they met.
    Fun fact: They even have a holiday film and a tv series on Nick.

  • @Cityweaver
    @Cityweaver 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    This is possibly the best trilogy they could make. All three movies make narrative sense compared to each other. Okay, Pandas are tai chi masters, but then Lord Shen tried to wipe them out 20ish years ago, and so now a random panda orphan ended up in the Valley of Peace where kung fu is taught. He learns kung fu, he learns tai chi, he ushers in a new era of awesomeness. That not only makes sense as a story, but it also make sense thematically, what kung fu (martial art) and tai chi (meditative art) represent, that's like, coma-inducing sweet. That's so sweet. It's possibly one of the most wholesome themes to make using these ideas.
    How To Train Your Dragon trilogy, though... that made almost no sense. XD

    Such a nice trillogy. Some aspects of kung-fu focus on 3 main parts. Mastering the body, mind, and spirit. In the first movie Po had to learn how to properly fight, mastering his body. His first major enemy being Tai Lung, a strong fighter who thought that strength was all he needed to be a dragon warrior. The second focused on Po learning how to overcome the trauma in his mind. His foe there being Lord Shen, the man who scarred po's mind. This movie Po has to learn the strength of his spirit. With his foe being a literal spirit stealer/manipulator. All culminating to turn Po into the dragon warrior of his dreams. Kung Fu also has 3 aspects to it that Po follow in each movies: learning kung fu, mastering kung fu, then finally teaching kung fu.

    10:50 Po still considers Ping to be his dad. He rather specifically said "Dad (Noodle-dad)! I want you to meet-! Ahh, I don't know what to call you (Panda-daddy)."
    The issue here is that while Po still loves and considers Ping to be his dad, he still wants to connect to his roots.
    Take Peter Parker, as an example. While Peter loved his uncle and aunt, in The Amazing Spiderman we see that he still yearns for a connection with his father. So if Peter's father walked through the front door and said "It's good to see you," you'd better believe Peter would be overcome with happiness and be eager to spend some time with him.
    Of course, then the "where were you"s and similar recriminations would come bubbling up after the elation wears down, but through all that, Peter's love for Uncle Ben wouldn't lessen. And the only difference for Po is that he never considered himself to be adopted until relatively recently, so his love for Ping will be even more imbedded, because Po already calls Ping dad, whereas Peter still has that slight distance of calling his father figure "uncle Ben."

    • @SuperiorPosterior
      @SuperiorPosterior 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What I love about the Kung Fu Panda movies, is that they build on the same idea as the previous movie.
      So often you'll have a movie come out, and at the end the MC learns not to be a jerk, he gets the girl, they save the town from the even worse megacorp jerk, etc. Then the sequel comes out and the MC and the girl are on the outs because he's (once again) a jerk, and it's just a full reset to the beginning of the first movie's plot.
      For the KFP trilogy, the MC learns that the secret ingredient to becoming a better you is to believe in yourself.
      Then he backslides a bit, because while he has confidence in his abilities, he was filled with self-doubt, and so learns that it's not your beginnings that matter, it's what you make of yourself.
      And in the third he's once more pushed out of his comfort zone, and is almost immediately hit in the face with his past, his unknown roots, and he grabs hold desperately, trying to immerse himself in "his people" to find an answer to the problems he is currently facing. This then teaches him that he isn't just his roots, he's his own whole tree, and while it's always good to nurture your roots, you shouldn't drown in them while ignoring the rest of your connections. And so he learns balance between his work and personal life, his past and present, his families, both by blood and by love. Because while you can become a better you all on your own, it is when your friends and family are behind you that you are at your BEST.
      Again, I love how it's 3 tiers of the same plot repeated, because each step along the path of self-improvement is something worth celebrating, and no journey is completed in only a single step.

    I finally meet someone who thinks that this third instalment is not up to par as its priors. Don't get me wrong, I love the trilogy, KFP is one of the best animation series. It's silly, funny, action-packed, emotional- it's an all in one package. But, the first two are defo better than this third one, they are more cohesive. I can watch the second one over and over, the first maybe once or twice a year, but I've never rewatched the third one since I've seen it in the cinema.

    This movie was cute, but it just doesn't hold the emotional weight the first two did.
    I mean, you've got what is supposed to be an intimidating villain and he's reduced to a joke by the end.
    Let's not ignore the plot issues. In the 2nd movie, it's implied within a few seconds that Po's father is at least a capable fighter, he's got a war hammer for god sake!(and even if it wasn't his, he still found and was capable of using a war hammer in a defensive manner) But in the 3rd movie, nope, can't fight, never tried and he's ALSO reduced to a joke.

    I always really liked how everything worked there and how sophisticated it was. When you take someone's chi and die, their chi returns to them. A lot of people didn't understand how Kai died, Po's chi didn't destroy him, but the fact that he was wearing a lot of them. Of course, you can take chi from a dragon warrior, but it's so strong that it's like wearing 10 of them, and if you wear some at that time and there are enough of them, it will destroy you. For example, some people don't understand how Jindiao in Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny could have so much chi without dying. It was because he was an ancient being and could own as much chi as he wanted, along with Po's chi. He was a dragon, so it's no wonder, dragons are magical and very powerful, and it was also because Jindiao was the first dragon warrior.

    I love this movie but was ultimately dissatisfied with it. I feel like it would have been better if Kai had a grudge against Li Shan (Po's biological dad) instead of Oogway. I mean...think about it. Oogway is cool and all, but we didn't really need to see more of him. His story ended in the first movie when he became a part of the universe and floated away into flower petals, so why not stick to that? I mean, we could still have him be in the spirit realm and have him be the key that Kai needs to get to the mortal realm (maybe as a cool cameo or callback) but other than that, Oogway isn't a character that needs development and screen time...Li is. This new character who we were introduced to via an engaging cliffhanger from the last movie? That's perfect! Have Kai's story centered around his hypothetical conflict with Li, and just like that we have an engaging villain (at least more engaging than what we got), and a much more engaging Li. Since their backstories would be intertwined in this scenario, it would mean Li has an actual personal stake in the main conflict Po has to face. You could even throw in a "sins of the father" trope to boost. That could be a great reason for Kai wanting to defeat Po and take his chi (Maybe he's interested in Po because Tai Lung informed him in the spirit realm? Again...callbacks). Speaking of chi, if you're still convinced Li Shan wouldn't make a good interwoven character with Kai, we've seen Li be a badass and fight against Shen's wolves in the last movie, so why not have him be some sort of retired master who gave up martial arts to pursue family life, only for him to have his family taken away and go into a long depression for years before getting that message from Oogway that his son was still alive? (And hey, maybe Oogway sending Li the message is what caught Kai's attention in the spirit realm? Maybe he sensed it and attacked Oogway in order to get to Li?) This would be the perfect explanation as to why Li doesn't know how to use chi anymore and instead spends his time goofing around with Po. He forgot the technique and is too rusty in Kung Fu to teach Po anything due to his years of isolation and grief, so he tries catching up on lost time with his son instead. This would actually make everything a bit sadder but more interesting overall because Li knows that his worst enemy is coming after his son but he doesn't have the means to defeat him anymore and only his son can do that because he's the dragon warrior. In this scenario, Li wants to keep Po safe and to not have to fight just like in the movie, so why not hide him in the hidden panda village where he can also catch up on lost time? The climax of the movie can even be the same, with Li and the village using chi to help Po defeat Kai and everything afterward including the Oogway scene by the lake, but now the overall story and characters are much more interesting because Li is more developed and Kai is more personally tied to Po and less distant than he was before. I don't know. These are just the thoughts I had. Maybe I should do a video essay, who knows.
