    I know you don't want to hear this but do yourself a favor and take that block to the machine shop and have the main caps measured for stock spec. I spent a month on my b20vtec build fighting with bearing clearances and then finally took it to my machine shop and found that 4 out of 5 of my main caps were a full .001" too tight vs stock spec and the other one was .002" too tight. He line honed them into spec and standard sizes bearings measured out perfect. B20's were not machined as carefully by honda as other b series engines.

    • @deadbeatgarage
      @deadbeatgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I appreciate the input brotha, I know you probably don't want to hear this but it's not that serious. You would have been fine not line honing your block over .001-..002. Machine shop seen you coming.

    • @frdbtr
      @frdbtr ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's where you are wrong. With those main cap specs I was unable to get my bearing clearances even close to honda spec. But it's not my engine so if you want to run bearings with no oil clearance, that is your choice. The machine shop didn't see me coming, I couldn't get my clearances in spec so I took it in and showed him how tight my clearances were and he measured the main cap size with me there. He didn't want to line hone it when I called him on the phone, he only did it for me after we measured the clearances together. I'm not a novice at building engines but loke I said before, it's your build and not mine.

    • @deadbeatgarage
      @deadbeatgarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@frdbtr was it a custom made crank or something? I'm just curious if this was a factory crank, factory block.. the crank grew? I understand if you're using arp main bolts.. then you're tightening the caps more that factory and it will squeeze the tolerance smaller but I won't have that issue. I have a factory crank, block.. standard size. I removed standard size bearings and I'm going to put standard size bearings back in. I'm not an engine builder either but that just makes sense to me.

    • @JGcynicDC2
      @JGcynicDC2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve always used the service manual to get the oem bearing sizes using the color code chart. The block and cranks have identifying marks to let you know the bearing sizes. Unless the engine has a lot of wear, this chart should work fine.

    • @frdbtr
      @frdbtr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deadbeatgarage It was an oem b20z2 from a non running crv. The bearing colors were clear on it so I decided to go with all oem bearings with the same colors. I told my tuner what I was doing and his exact words were "make sure you measure clearances anyway because honda wasn't as careful with them as they would have been with a type r". Long story short the honda bearings were way to tight so I ordered the budget king bearings standard size, way too tight. I called my machine shop and told him I wanted him to clearance my main cap bearing lands and he didn't want to do it so I loaded my crank and block with the standard size bearings installed and took it into him, he confirmed my findings with the amount if clearance I was seeing so we pulled the bearings and measured the bearing journal lands without any bearings and they were out of spec. I'm confused to this day how honda was running the bearings in that block that they were. My situation may be a one off, you may be totally fine to go with acl standard size bearings just make sure you, at least, plastigauge the bearings and make sure they are within spec. I've built 2 other b18c blocks one with an ls crank and never had this issue, did a d16a6 and slapped in a set of king standard bearings in that, all measured within spec. If I do another b20 though, I will probably not even bother with it until I take it to the machine shop and have the main cap journal lands machined into spec. By the way I was using oem main cap bolts, not arp. Good luck with the build I started watching your channel because of Khaki when you and Braven did that skit where you knocked the windshield out with a hammer and you blamed Braven. Cracked me up and I've been subscribed ever since.

    I believe Rev hang is in the tune. The ecu allows the idle to come down slowly due to the catalytic converters (you don't have any but from factory, the vehicle the ecu came out of does) the ecu does this to burn off excess fuel that's still in the engine to keep the cat clean

    I’ve boosted 3 b20s on 11 psi drove them 100 miles a day revved them to 8k beat them hard and they all lasted about 8 months to a year before I spun a bearing. Never cracked a sleeve. I think they would’ve lasted longer if I didn’t have such a rowdy ak47 2 step on them. I have a video on my channel where I made 339 on a stock b20V 11 psi all eBay stuff lol

      @@deadbeatgarage no I’ve been watching you for a long time now and I must say I like your content but you need to stop getting mad at the comments , this is why I put a laughing emoji , you need to start being friendlier with the people who follow you and those who find you in public! Be more humble and know that making noise and pissing off your neighbors every chance is damned childish homeboy, start showing respect to people and then maybe you’ll gain the respect of followers and your channel will grow! But if you keep being a pissed off individual then you’ll only have those followers that are always mad at those who don’t approve of their actions, plus you’re a father of a special kind of kid that needs attention 100% of the time which is why you should be respectful of your surroundings and people within them.
