All of this started when companies were going bankrupt around 2008. There's chapter 11 bankruptcy that is now the Bible of these companies. That's why you don't get pension anymore. The company's motive is to squeeze out the most with as little as possible.

Remote working has been on the table for many companies for well over a decade. Many larger companies with subsidiary branches in locations away from their parent headquarters often saw to unique working opportunities. If by chance your job was remote, and saw to much of your work being in use of a computer terminal, technically their was no reason why such employees could not work from home. And as such the option was made available, but most employees didnt take the offer seriously, opting to continue to work along side fellow employees at their branch location.
There was no real incentive for people to try it out since it seemed so abnormal. Covid on the other hand forced people to stay home, and businesses who already had such options in place made the transition fairly seemless. More over, those remote branches as in their brick and morter locations could be shut down, saving a large sum of money for the company. still maintaining their employees regional work, but without all the cost and insurance of a physical branch location. it also enabled those employees to dramatically save money on daily costs no longer needed. commuting, gas and travel expense, lunch, annual clothing and attire. All of which adds up to a fairly large expense, that remains in the pockets of both employer and employee. sort of a win win. Their are downsides for almost every upside as well. No commuting also amounts to less physical activity which works for and against ones health. A daily commute is a double edge sword. both working as an exercise and a form or wear and tear on the body. but also, at the job, your sitting down all day, which is not good for the body, bringing enormous stress and high blood pressure. Staying at home often means a more relaxed situation, more freedom. but it can also mean less exercise and more weight gain if not checked, then again it can make for recover, more rest and more reduction in daily inflammation. to each is own in their situation and how they manage their time and health. But overall their are pro's and con's to each situation.

Tech had to catch up to the opportunity to work remotely. Employees and companies had to have people that have reliable and fast internet to work from home. Also, companies have to have a support group that can regulate remote employees accessing their at work network from home. That's a lot of additional vulnerability to open a company up to with remote workers. With the addition of VPN networks and MFA to login a network it helps mitigate the risks of remote work.

    • @xevious2501

@@warleswil3080 indeed greater speed and more security is the promise of modern remote online employment, but a decade or so back such work was still very much on the table, and speed wasnt much of an issue since few of those types of online work involved large data transfer. even I as a cgi artist was freelancing on major film production as far back as the mid 90's. it was doable, but of coarse everything back then require far less data.

Pay a living wage, change policies so that the employer has to give you just as much notice when they do lay off's as they expect when you quit, offer benefits, and stability, and stop micromanaging and you will not have this issue. This is a great idea if you can pull it off and you do not have to be left broke if you get laid off. This is NOT an easy way out, it's HARD work but worth it. Never forget the company needs you just as much as you need work, so demand remote if that's what you truly want, or go elsewhere. Stop letting big companies have full control over your well-being and financial goals.

I don't see the problem here. He wants to retire early and jobs are currently in abundance.

I'm confused...If this is not illegal, why are these guys hiding their identities? Also, unless you find jobs where your boss/coworkers rarely engage with you, I don't get how you juggle chats, calls/emails and unexpected meetings/deliverables. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hiding your identity means you’re doing something illegal and not merely wanting to protect your identity for the sake of anonymity?

It's not illegal but companies want you to focus on their company only! They think another fulltime job is distracting from your work with them so it's not illegal but those with multiple jobs figure the individual companies won't like it and they could get fired! So hiding one's identity is the best way to go!

It's not illegal. Companies have weird hang ups about workers. They want wage slaves. Having multiple jobs means taking less poo poo as you don't have to. It means making more money, because you can go somewhere else.

Some companies in their contracts say that an employee should not be doing any non work related tasks during the time the company is paying them to work - which is why I’m assuming he choose to hide identity cause that can get them fired.

There's too much unpack here that isn't said. Budgeting, transportation, savings, relationship status. There's more than this report let's on. Overpriced, yea but thats only a portion of the problem.

No one cares about any of that. You stack and buy assets. 401k means nothing at that point. You only putting 20,500 in. You have to have other ways to make money work.

  • @civilizeddiva

Some people *had* multiple jobs before remote work: leave a 9 -5pm, go to a second job and then maybe drive (i,e., food delivery, etc). Now they can work a few more hours, with less time in commute. Working class people are trying to create multiple income streams, unfortunately. Like the wealthy, we need to learn how to leverage the power of investments💪🏾.

You are misunderstanding the meaning of overemployed. What you described is moonlighting. Overemployed means working at 2 or more jobs AT THE SAME BLOCK OF TIME. So those 2 jobs both start at 9am and end at 5pm as an example.

      @@fc7307 Thank you for clarifying.
I think back to what the interviewee said: using multiple devices (computers) to multitask work, and that the work can be stressful. I still believe working class people need to learn alternative options to earn income streams besides using our physical labor i.e., investments).
