Who do you think would work there if not for citizens? Would they just have a staff that lived in the hotels? Would that staff then be unallowed to marry to bear children? 🤔 Interesting concept!!
Born in Vegas and still living here. The strip doesn’t care one tiny bit about the locals and haven’t for years now. I used to go to all the restaurants on the strip and go to shows, these days I avoid the strip like a plague.
As a tourist over 20+ years I found myself spending less and less time on the strip -- high hotel prices, resort fees, etc., eventually branching out to off-strip hotels and enjoying more local attractions. Now I moved here. I still use my MGM free self parking to walk around the strip. I came from Chicago...parking was insane---think starting at $40 for a couple hours. Any big city won't care one tiny bit about the locals.
Ofc the locals feel like they’re forgotten about. It’s all about everyone else coming to Vegas but not the people who are born here and live here on the daily. Now everything is about price gouging tf out of everyone.
You first did it to tourist now they treat you unfairly. The local employee is low balled and rents are unfairly to everyone. People will move out and the work force will be empty. Then the water will finally dry out.
Everything used to be dirt cheap. Now it’s like everywhere else. We had a special little place, and the mob ran it well. Now it’s all corporations and Californians.
It ain't as gang gang skirt skirt yeet yeet ya heard now it all womp womp skibibi toilet cling cling cling drip drop splash kna mean -las vegas resident
This is happening everywhere. It's not just Vegas. This one of the many downsides of social media. People post about places and then its seems world flocks there. Try living in a beach community. There is NO off-season anymore. People came to visit and never leave. Small remote towns? People move there and work remotely (and drive up all the prices). It's the future unfortunately.
@sadhbhdelahunt Just because someone from a crime infested and impoverished country in Latin America wants to come here doesn't mean there aren't problems that need to be fixed. America is great because we always strive for things to be better.
I had a Lyft driver who was born here tell me that he wished people would stop moving to Las Vegas because we are causing everything to go up in price. He lamented that people who are locals can't afford to live here anymore.
Moved to Vegas in ‘91 and it’s night and day difference. Locals have been left out in the proverbial cold. And I’m so phenomenally disappointed about what Hard Rock is going to do to the Mirage as well. One of the last properties on the Strip with REAL character, doomed to become just another soulless glass/lights/concrete getup.
I was shocked to hear that they were tearing down the Tropicana to build a baseball stadium. WTF?!?! The Trop was one last iconic hotels left on the strip. So what’s next? Are they going to take down Circus Circus and replace it with a new Nascar track since we’re turning the Vegas strip into a giant sports park.
I still never understood why Hard Rock sold their original location to Virgin in the first place if they're just going to take over the Mirage. They made the biggest deal about "leaving Vegas forever."
All of the above like every city in the country. Wait until small town America gets built up - because it will eventually. This is what happens when you have too many people. There will be no rural America some day.
I was born in 1970 in Vegas and lived my whole life here. Living in Vegas sucks now. Over-crowded, people crawling on top of people everywhere, ridiculously expensive in every way. Sure it's evolved and become more sophisticated and that's great, but no one gives a s**t about the longtime locals who helped build this place have called it home for decades. Vegas has become a place that you need to make a 100k per year minimum to live decently. It was not like that most of my life here. It was always booming and was a mecca for small business owners but after the pandemic when housing prices skyrocketed and half of California moved here that was truly the end for Vegas as I knew it in so many ways. There are really only traces of it left. However, I still have a lot of memories of great times when this place was much smaller and friendlier from local businesses to the casinos and everything in between.
It wasn't always glamorous. A lot of people used to move to Vegas and had to leave because a family member got addicted to gambling and couldn't stop. My dad worked out in Oklahoma and couldn't stop going to casinos. I think it's one thing when you realize you have a problem and hold yourself back, but when a person has no impulse control/moral barrier that governs them, you need to intervene. Vegas wasn't glamorous before at all. It's just the people who could survive there weren't addicted to gambling.
My friend - it's always about pro's and con's.... There are other parts of the country you could choose to live, but will you make as much $$ ? Will you have access to an international airport, good hospitals, worldclass entertainment, etc., etc.? We have been visiting Las Vegas for over 30 years - and now we are 2-year locals (originally from CO - not CA!) and LOVING this life in Summerlin! Not sure what your beef is.... You can move to the SE United States, or the Dakotas, or Michigan... or other spots - but do those places offer you the income opportunities, the economic diversity and the rising real estate values? Your pick - The only thing certain in our lives are death, taxes, and CHANGE! Learn to deal with the change or find another path/place. Wishing you the best.... but PLEASE stop whining.
@@hollyhipp5833 You literally made your wealth (maybe) in Colorado and want to lecture this person. Hilarious. No wonder locals hate outsiders like you in tourist areas.
The reason I don't go on the strip I have everything near me in Henderson and don't need to rub shoulders with visitors who do things they wouldn't do in their home town
When I was a kid growing up here in Vegas, if you lived in Hendertuckey you were on the lower economic scale living in a trailer park under the green cloud. It's amazing to me that it's turned into what it is today. Makes me wonder if the newer residents of Henderson know about that city's past? Hint ....Kerr McGee & Basic....
Maybe it’s because I am retired, but as a local, I truly appreciate the casinos that cater to me: South Point, Silverton and Orleans (in that order). Free parking, good restaurants and movie theaters, I like to bowl, and all of the restaurants are very good with reasonably priced food. What more did you ask for? I am not a big gambler and don’t earn a lot of comps, but Silverton drew me in with a promotion and I like their 24 hour café.
Silverton resorts world and cosmopolitan actually aren’t bad with locals either but once mgm takes over identity club end of July I’ll be interested to see if they forget about us locals . The mgm rewards program could care less about locals unfortunately
That as well the 24hrs restraints or cafés those do not exist as much anymore in the strip. I am not a gambler or a party person but a 24hr cafe sounds wonderful to me.
That’s exactly how I feel about Nashville. Moved away 10 years ago and never plan on going back. Most of America sucks now. Vegas trying to be like a Major City with Professional Sports Teams was a mistake itself.
I remember during the recession 2007 onwards, the casinos were courting locals. There were huge buffet discounts if you’re local. I felt sooo important. My family would eat there twice a week. It was so nice to show off your local ID! One day they don’t accept local IDs for discount. 😢 worse after the pandemic all buffets disappeared! For 15 years my family staycationed at the Mandalay at least once a year. We loved the buffet. One Beer at the gift shop costs $7.00 two years ago. I’d buy me at least ten and roam around the casino. Next year 2023, it doubled! This year we book at the Mandalay. Maybe beer tripled? So bye bye Strip. The investors don’t care about locals. Seriously We feel disrespected. they courted the locals during the recession. Now they don’t care. Look at the F1, so many small businesses affected, us locals suffered going to work. Nobody cared. This Clark County Commission confronted with cash strapped investors just keep on approving stuff regardless of the locals feelings. Truly they don’t care about us. watch out. When the next recession hits we know better.
During the last recession of 2008, my townhouse fell from $200 k to the mid $30's. It going to happen again, as Sinless City is dependent on disposable income.
I'll tell you what needs to be done. You won't like it. If the Clark County Commission is not doing what you want, vote them out. We have 7 democrats on the commission. The residents obviously don't know better if they keep voting these people in.
I dont even live in Vegas anymore and understand exactly what everyone is saying. It seems like the government only cares about turning vegas into little compton, making the strip a million times bigger and mire expensive and yes charging us for parking. If you are a las Vegas native you shouldn’t have to pay for parking on the strip.
Nah. Not It seems like the government only cares about turning vegas into little compton. Not “It seems like the government only cares about turning vegas into little compton”. /

So, if you're locals, then you should know that the Vegas Strip changes all the time, right? In about 3 years, there's going to be a giant guitar building on the Strip. A few years ago, there was not a giant sphere there. Now, it's part of the Strip. 😅
We've been locals for +40 years. We don't go to the strip. The only time I get a glimpse of it is on TV as we sit down to watch the Las Vegas Raiders play football. Other people obviously love Vegas because there doesn't seem to be a lack of visitors who love to spend money here. It's city living. We do well here and so do our grown kids. Viva Las Vegas!♥
How terribly the locals are neglected … disproportionate and high property taxes, high cost of utilities, dangerous drivers in Las Vegas street, criminals in every valley neighborhoods, fuel @ $4.75 per gallon, grocery pricing beyond reach, limited choice of recreational facilities, safety in UNLV and CCSD schools, short of integrity in public offices, unbelievable 75 cents minimum wage hike
Alaska during the summer would be epic! It wont get so hot there! I Like vegas to but maybe heading back somtime again. but Alaska that sun may stay in the 70s make me so happy sunshine on my shoulders! Also
Las Vegas is a desert and these Einsteins forget that the casino workers are the reason why they stay in business. All the wealthy or people who bought homes came from a more expensive area so they are set. The locals and low wages can’t keep up with the unfair rents. As new stadium comes in or basketball team comes in people will be priced out even further. People will move to places where there’s water and you can grow your own food. Because working two jobs will still make you homeless don’t become a statistic for becoming homeless.
I lived in Las Vegas for over 55 years and I had to get away because it has just gotten to big. I'm still close enough to see my doctors but far enough to forget the crap that is Las Vegas today.
@@milt6208 The VA care is great! I pray for them everyday for the wonderful care they gave my husband! It’s too bad I couldn’t get him to the VA Hospital during his last health crisis.
Another example of how Las Vegas is no longer for locals. Seat filler services like Houseseats, which formerly offered locals free tickets to top acts at casinos on the strip, no longer have such access. Instead, Houseseats now offers tickets only to what can be described as “c” level comedy shows. The big casinos no longer are giving away tickets for Houseseats to fill.
When I moved to Las Vegas in 2007 they still cared about and took care of the locals. We had deals made available to everyone daily. Then when they decided we're going to start charging locals for parking and deals don't exist that's when the spiral begin. The locals have waited too long to vocalize this! I left because no amount of money could make me stay in a city that no longer cares about its locals and it shows! I left during the Pandemic.
Las Vegas from like 1955-1981-ish was golden era. Corporations starting taking everything over in the 1990s. Fast forward to the 2020s and Vegas has now become something totally different than what it used to be. There is no more of that classic spirit that it used to have. Las Vegas is like over corporatized now. Unnecessary resort fees Parking fees More rules in general that basically restrict your ability to have fun Gambling is even more rigged than ever Vegas sucks now
I use to go to Vegas 4 or 5 times a year, the last time l visited Vegas it was the 1st time l was not looking forward in coming back and its been a year and no real desire to go any time soon saddens me ...
I visit family living in Las Vegas for almost 25 years and never go to the Strip. My thing now is seeking out different restaurants outside of the Strip and Downtown. You would be amazed what’s out there. And, the Mexican food is really good. My favorite is the Spring Valley/Chinatown District to eat. So much better than the Strip. And, much cheaper.
My friend took me there the first time I visited Vegas in 2010. It felt like a big secret. It was much easier to park there and drive. Food was amazing and cheap. Now, parking is impossible, food is expensive and it doesn't feel worth going to anymore.

I’m a tourist like everyone else and I completely understand the pain of the locals. I don’t know what the ‘Local’s Night’ consisted of, but if they’ve deteriorated over the last several years, than it’s time to improve them by bringing them back level they were at, maybe even better than before.
All the people moving there and all that new construction will be for naught in a few years when the city runs out of water and the high temperatures renders it uninhabitable.
The water used in the hotels is recycled. There is a water concern, but I think it more troublesome for the people who live in Arizona from what I've read. If you visit the Springs Preserve, you will learn about how Southern Nevada in particular conserves water. Of course we should do more, for instance condo developments and homes shouldn't have real grass in the landscaping but landscaping more appropriate for the arid environment.
With all due respect, Mr Lopez, I want you to tell everyone you know that we will dry up and blow away and maybe people will slow down in their efforts to move here. Between you and I, that story is not true. Las Vegas has been the most aggressive city in the states, when it comes to water. The state that fails all of us who rely on the river is now and has has always been, California. They will yell that it's the farms. And yes some farms are horrible. The water that California misuses is staggering. Back to Nevada. There has never been a year that we have taken more than our allotment. Every new home, office, school, anything that's built has tankless water tanks, native landscaping and so much more. There are a couple of hotels that have well water, one is the Venetian. There are many, many wells on the east side, located on horse properties. So, regarding this town drying up, we are by far ahead of the nation in terms of Water.
Except of course that Las Vegas is the one and only place that depends on water from Lake Mead which is in no danger of running out of water. IF the lake ever reaches deadpool, where water can no longer flow out of the dan, Las Vegas will be the only place which can continue to draw water from the lake. Given that the entire state of Nevada uses about 1% of the water that comes out of the lake each year, Las Vegas would have enough water for centuries. And then, of course, there is the fact that Las Vegas is one of the most water efficient cities on the planet.
We lived in Henderson for 15 years. Our kids were born there. We had a good life. Cost of living was low. We loved Town Square. What’s that like now? We usually went to the Strip for restaurants, shows and the Bellagio garden. The hotels need to let locals park for free. Many stopped going because of that. We’d spend 10x on restaurants for a family of four over parking fees. For us things went downhill after Covid, then we moved out of the state.
I was born here in 1955. My parents moved here after WW2, the stories I could tell . I remember when Ch 8 had the Cinderella Show. Every day she would put on her magic glasses and see all the kids watching...except me. Lol! I was also Mr Green's newspaper girl for a few years. I agree, it is getting too big . I don't mind that so much, until I see the gangs moving here or the many people who have no respect for my town, then I resent it. I do miss being able to go grocery shopping 24/7. As for the hotels, and their bleeding every last penny from their customers, I blame these corporations who purchase a hotel and run it with a lack of understanding of what made Las Vegas unique. The idea that they have the 'bells' to charge their own customers to park, is insanity. The disgusting way they have hidden fees tacked on to the advertised price for a hotel room, is another way corporations have hurt our image. In the past, people of all walks of life could come here and expect to be treated like they mattered. Even something as simple as being given free drinks whilst you played the slots was part of our charm. People loved getting free tickets to the buffet or to the shows. Those simple actions on our part would bring that person back, time and time again. Corporate greed will kill us. Why? There are too many other gambling cities now. We give people very little reason to return. More than the rapid growth of my town, I am unhappy with the treatment we are extending to our lifeblood. What's next? Will they charge you to sit in a restaurant, to walk through a casino, or to breathe inside a hotel? We need our flamboyant charaters to step up and get this city out of the corporate hands before they do more damage.
Locals aways crying about discounts because live here. They are the type that go to local bar for watch a party. Because they never buy tickets to support there team.
I love Las Vegas yet the thing that will make it a SUPERIOR city is if they could implement a Japan or Switzerland style type of public rail transportation. Imagine how many more people could FLOOD into the casino's after getting off of the 205 mph high speed train!
As a local I freakin love it here. Also if you don’t want to pay for parking as a local you should know the free spots. Surprisingly RTC does a great job. I encourage everyone to try it. You save money, meet people, and no driving.
Its the same in every city, every country. Exponential growth in population, development, and desertification. Humans eating up the environment like locus.
It’s not that easy for people to just pick up and leave. They’ve created lives here and not everyone is financially stable enough to make such a move so they’re doing their best.
@@Ravioli-uw9uy That’s why you plan ahead, Ravoli. It’s not going to get any better anytime soon here. The days of cheap rent/mortgage here in Vegas are gone.

Those of us from Phoenix Arizona know how you feel. They have taken over our city with new move ins from other states and they are growing water parks etc. our cost of living has gone up, the streets are more packed and the newbies bring their bad habits and don’t want to respect us.
right and it just couldn't be true that the people who own everything are raises your prices because they want to make even more money? They wouldn't do that right?
Waaaaaahh you aren't special because you were here before others. Things change. I've been in Phoenix 20 plus years things are better in some ways and things are worse in some ways. Not every decision is going to make you happy or even consider your input. It's a city of 1.5 million people not everyone is gonna be a ray of sunshine. Your complaining doesn't help. I don't know what you mean about newbies not respecting you and their bad habits. You look down on people who moved to Phoenix recently. Why would you expect respect? If someone saw me as a newbie with bad habits based on the fact my geographic location recently changed it would be just ridiculous.
I love Vegas. It would be so much more fun if it was more affordable. It's not fair how locals are forgotten, or if you become a local, how fast you're thrown in the back.
Check out small town America. Land, houses and taxes have grown astronomically due to the fact that so many people want second homes away from the city. This is the new world; overpriced, overpopulated.
I've had a few locals tell me they'll visit the Strip on Mon/Tues/Weds, but thats it. No one ever said the other days unless they had visitors in town.
Not with recent implants bringing violence to Vegas either. Now we got kids killing other kids, people killing homeless people. People from other states coming in doing their dirty work and running back to wherever they came from. They’re also angry because they’re being priced out of apartments from people from California and New York. Comes at a cost, I’m sure you live here to see it… or do you?
My family used to live in Las Vegas from 1974 when my grandfather moved there with my grandmother, aunt and dad because my grandfather was in the United States Air Force and got sent to Nellis Air Force Base and when he retired from the US Military, after 28 years of service, a year later my grandfather decided that he wanted to stay there so he and my grandmother brought a house in an area which was pretty much the edge of town about a mile or so east of what is now Charleston and Buffalo. My stayed in the Las Vegas Area until my dad and I moved in 2012. So I can say is that people were complaining about many of these problems in the mid 1970s and continued to do so until we left. This is nothing new nor was the explosive growth of the Las Vegas Area and Clark County. The Las Vegas Area and Clark County saw massive population growth from the time my family first moved to Las Vegas in 1974, and this would continue with massively explosive growth with just a couple of short slowdowns in the early 1980s, and early 1990s, until the Great Recession in the late 2000s. That was the slowest period of growth since at least my grandfather first got stationed in the Las Vegas Area in 1974. The late 2000s a very odd time to be living in Las Vegas because not only wasn’t the Strip and Downtown not doing well but the numbers of housing being built and people moving here really slowed down and the are would not start to recover until the early 2010s. So many of the issues in this video are nothing new.
I moved to Las Vegas in 1992 and use to enjoy hanging out on the strip in many of the old classic hotel/casinos. But after about a decade + later, it just wasn’t the same vibe that I once enjoyed before. The old hotels were torn down. The casino lounge acts that we use to go listen to were changing to please the younger generation or completely disappearing all together. I can go on and on… I love Las Vegas. But going to strip or even downtown these days doesn’t happen very much.
I went in 2010. I could tell I was catching the very tail end of what made Vegas great. I met a local at a show. It was a crappy show but I could tell he was reliving the old days. The Elvis stuff was long gone. I went back a few times in between then and 2020 and it was easier to see what was changing. I know in 2010, food there was incredibly, absurdly cheap away from the tourist traps. Five or so years later, everything was super-expensive. All the casinos were getting a generic look and whatever magic I noticed in 2010 was somehow also fading away too. I'm told Laughlin is a lot like what Vegas used to be and I can see that.
I had to move away from Vegas in 2015. I miss those days a lot. But so many of the things I loved have disappeared. The golf course I used to play, which surrounded my apartment complex, was closed down. And the apartment complex was sold to new management which drove it into the ground with awful changes. The locals discounts and deals dried up and so did Lake Mead. Makes me sad but I guess I was forced to move just in time.
this seems like some a non piece of news, ok so the most expensive non-necessity money making part of town is getting more expensive as they built more and more and need more money...who would've thought?!?!?!
thousands of homeless people defecating in front of children and occupying every single local park, super inflation, high crime, no public transportation,, horrible weather, drug addiction, prostitution and abuse... I can name a lot more things that in my opinion are more important than local discounts for buffets or free parking.
What parks do you go to? Have not seen that on this side of town. In the cooler months I drive up to the Lone Mountain equestrian park and walk the trail or hike the mountain. The only poo I see is from the horses and we expect that. Sometimes a bit of dog poo from the few that don't curb their dogs. Have not seen any humans doing that there as they have a porta potty by one of the parking lots, another by the horse ring and a standard park restroom by the play areas. The parks and trails here in Summerlin are also free of human poo and homeless people. Select a better park to visit.
I live on the west side, don't really do public parks when I live on a golf course, private clubs, gyms and such. If you are in example I was to see photographic proof of THOUSANDS of people pooping in the parks. Until then, I call BS.
Good Stuff Ozzy. I love, love, LOVE Vegas. Hotels do need to make accommodations more locals-friendly like it used to be. When I moved here in 2010, what a time. It was like being in a movie every day. Of course I was younger (still young!!) & clubbing damn near every day. Moved out here with a convertible Vette & a chunk of money. The Las Vegas Weekly used to have a calendar at the back of their magazine (and online) that showed all of the events that locals could get into for free. Marquee on Mondays, Tao on Tuesdays. Encore Beach. On & on. Comedy shows. Concerts. Watch parties. Lagasse's Stadium was crackin'. All of the various pools. Somebody show locals love like that again & let us know where the hook-ups are.
I’ve lived here for 4 years, but have visited for 45 years. I enjoy the UPSCALE direction the Strip is headed (more fine dining and high end shopping, less $5 t-shirts and junky souvenir shops……and the people that frequent those places). But I do realize 99% of the locals I’ve met don’t want to SPEND ANY MONEY!! So it’s the TYPE of person who lives here is WHY they don’t like the Strip. They want cheap, cheap, cheap! …..the girl in the video would valet her trashy Chevy?! I guarantee she’ll want a steak at Outback Steakhouse……NOT Ocean Prime. (enough said). 🤷🏼♂️🤔👎🏻

It's like that in every city. No one goes to the tourist centers everyday that are close to them. Everyone lives their lives in their local communities.
I visited Vegas a few times in my life, and the locals are not very fond of tourist. I remember one lady telling off one of my friends for not having a cigarette for her when she asked him I can’t really blame the locals on this one. They deal with out of towners every single day and the out-of-towners act like they’re better than them so I could see where they’re coming from
If you ever want to understand why locals hate tourists, go pretend to be a local somewhere. I was in NYC looking at a map and a tourist asked me where a church was. I said I didn't know. I was from Michigan. The woman made a nasty remark and her friends all observed my shocked face. One of them pointed out that I was looking at a map. These same women back home wouldn't be running their mouth like that but on vacation, they feel like they have carte blanche to verbally abuse anyone. It's sad.
Grow up! People in other parts of the world have been feeling like this for decades because all the tourist town cater to American tourists, so they avoid those places…. In recent years, more Americans are moving in, not just visiting anymore, pricing out the locals. Cry harder!
It changes as the economy changes, and people remember it when they personally had a good time. Downtown was for locals and the strip for visotors. Just think about the changes in economy and what some strip casino tried to do..Around the 80s brought the 'family friendly' themes, and the early 2010s tried to get anyone to visit even locals.
Unfortunately Las Vegas was built to entertainment Adults and raise on tourism income, we were fine until outsiders came to live here telling to realtors how cheap own and rent was in Las Vegas, then paying for food was also cheap for them and then gas and then pandemic excuses everything went up except our Las Vegas minimum wage, Las Vegas can’t afford what outsiders can paid because their outside salaries or retirement income can afford.
I've been visiting Vegas since the early 80's and I cannot believe the amount of homeless people these days, and just general derelicts, bums hanging around at gas stations, everywhere. I've also never seen so many items locked up at Smith's. I also noticed a distinct increase in the amount of a certain "folk" many of whom were homeless, wandering around, laying around...ugh. Felt unsafe.
America really needs to get control of real estate costs and rents. Other countries do not have the sorts of homelessness that the US has. There is the heartless attitude that everyone must pay exorbitant rent and you need to be happy doing it. The whole economy here is going to crash badly one day. Something is propping it up, especially when the largest employers are usually hospitals or schools, which just can't work.
You unhuman being..They have no home or place to call home and btw homeless people don't attack people.. You should worry about the other elements that this city draws ...
We used to be able to grocery shop 24/7 now they have to close grocery stores at night and lock up liquor.. In certain areas of the city, certain liquors are locked up and the rest of the liquor like vodka gin tequila are all available without a key, you want some Hennessy you gotta get an attendant. That’s pretty sad that only those are being stolen says something about cultures moving here. I also see shop lifting almost daily at the shopping center I work in. When I moved here police used to relocate homeless to Vegas. Now I see them walking down my street, all tranqed up. I’ve only lived here for 14 years. Definitely time to move.
That’s how EVERY corporate works. Once the business is booming, they don’t give a shit about the local or ANY discounts. Simply because they know the money is gonna come either way. Sad but true.
They killed it a long time ago, The stardust and the mirage they keep getting rid of classic places locals enjoy and replacing them with resorts world and hardrock and those are not casinos which locals will have fun. There just overpriced bland metropolis jungles. No buffets, no real entertainment, no real limos. Hell they don’t even want you to be able to drive to the strip anymore.
Las vegas is no longer a place for long time locals we have been priced out of everything, And yes we have lots of wildlife that eats meat and they thank you for bringing them to there home !
Las Vegas is an animap of its own. I lived there for a few years back in 2015. I used to drive my cousin to the strip every night for work. I won't ever forget trying to get to the public libary on foot was literally impossible. The public bus system is extremely expensive and poorely routed.
the growth of the suburban sprawl to the point where 1970s era neighorhoods are called historic west side because they are as inner city as 1890s neighborhoods are in east coast cities. a place that would still be pretty close to the edge of suburban sprawl in most other cities is considered close to downtown
I have a family member living in Vegas and visit the town often. My impression is that the city does not focus on education because it always needs thousands of low-skilled people to fill low-paying casino jobs on and off the strip.
America generally doesn't focus on education. I think Vegas has a lot of losers from Michigan based on my experience and that's a state that does not care about education. Add in places like Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and it's not a surprise it is the way it is. American businesses even discriminate against people with an education. When I immigrated here, I had no idea it was a third world country with a Gucci belt. That expression really is true.
Vegas is my 2nd home. Always go there at least 5 times a year. Cali resident. Been doing this since i was 21. The strip is meant for tourists. And the local spot out of the strip are better anyway. Durango casino is awesome. Even palace stations. If have friends that live there, and i actually prefer the local spots outside the strip cause it's less traffic and all the stores and places off of the strip are pretty new and clean. Just don't go to downtown area. lol.
Vegas was literally meant to be a tourist trap. Not a place to raise a family.

Who do you think would work there if not for citizens?
Would they just have a staff that lived in the hotels?
Would that staff then be unallowed to marry to bear children? 🤔 Interesting concept!!
You obviously fail at logic. The city would fail if there were no families. The purpose of a city is to be a place where people would want to live.
Born in Vegas and still living here.
The strip doesn’t care one tiny bit about the locals and haven’t for years now.
I used to go to all the restaurants on the strip and go to shows, these days I avoid the strip like a plague.
Doesn't help that it's one fucking lane from the Tropicana to the Caesars Palace.
Money,, like a company and government
As a tourist over 20+ years I found myself spending less and less time on the strip -- high hotel prices, resort fees, etc., eventually branching out to off-strip hotels and enjoying more local attractions. Now I moved here. I still use my MGM free self parking to walk around the strip. I came from Chicago...parking was insane---think starting at $40 for a couple hours.
Any big city won't care one tiny bit about the locals.
Exactly. It was established outside of Las Vegas city limits for a reason.

I totally agree regarding the Mirage. I moved here in 2004 and barely recognize our town.
Same year my mom and dad moved us over !!
Been here 35 years, It's definitely changed big time! Terrible and dangerous drivers more than ever, the strip is disgusting now

Lack of construction boosted prices
It wasn't always glamorous. A lot of people used to move to Vegas and had to leave because a family member got addicted to gambling and couldn't stop. My dad worked out in Oklahoma and couldn't stop going to casinos. I think it's one thing when you realize you have a problem and hold yourself back, but when a person has no impulse control/moral barrier that governs them, you need to intervene. Vegas wasn't glamorous before at all. It's just the people who could survive there weren't addicted to gambling.

Free parking, good restaurants and movie theaters, I like to bowl, and all of the restaurants are very good with reasonably priced food. What more did you ask for? I am not a big gambler and don’t earn a lot of comps, but Silverton drew me in with a promotion and I like their 24 hour café.

Another example of how Las Vegas is no longer for locals. Seat filler services like Houseseats, which formerly offered locals free tickets to top acts at casinos on the strip, no longer have such access. All the people moving there and all that new construction will be for naught in a few years when the city runs out of water and the high temperatures renders it uninhabitable.
So true, they will need to invest a fortune in eco science to even keep the strip going.
Won’t run out of water. Stop watching fear mongering news. Corpus Christi Texas has more problems with water than Las Vegas.
So, regarding this town drying up, we are by far ahead of the nation in terms of
Water.
The LOCALS CANNOT EVEN GO TO THE STRIPS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PAY THE VERY HIGH FEE FOR PARKING. FIFTY DOLLARS ON SUNDAYS

THAT FREE PARKING BRING IT BACK BECAUSE THE PRICE ON IT IS RIDICULOUS

They can thank the raiders 😅
You’re city is growing 😢
this seems like some a non piece of news, ok so the most expensive non-necessity money making part of town is getting more expensive as they built more and more and need more money...who would've thought?!?!?!
feel the same, forgotten for over decade
thousands of homeless people defecating in front of children and occupying every single local park, super inflation, high crime, no public transportation,, horrible weather, drug addiction, prostitution and abuse...
@@kennixox262 You obviously need to get out more
I live on the west side, don't really do public parks when I live on a golf course, private clubs, gyms and such. If you are in example I was to see photographic proof of THOUSANDS of people pooping in the parks. Until then, I call BS.
@johndanson4427 Any American city. Fixed for you.

I live in Minnesota and we're thinking to move to Las Vegas.
Let's hope you like it when you get there. If you don't, you're out your money.
I moved from Vegas to Minnesota last year.
@@schrodingerdiscovery It gets so cold here in the winter.
Plus, Vegas has gotten to expensive, just got back from a visit and I was really surprised.
Moved OUT - BEST move i ever made!
Where did you go? Seems some folks on this thread might want to follow you!
Everyone (California, Hawaii, Idaho) has the same complaint Maybe grant more oil leases.
They just wanted discounts or free things for being the local residents.
Isn’t that why people moved to Vegas to begin with? Because it was cheap? Cheap don’t last forever
@@weskelly4538 …..I moved from rainy, grey, cold Seattle, I wanted SUNSHINE. No, I didn’t move here because it was cheap (but yes, it’s 1/2 as expensive as Seattle.
@@eddieg6436 😹😹😹 never in my life have I heard someone wanting to move to the desert for sunshine. Be real
@@weskelly4538 …….I take it you’ve never lived in the Pacific Northwest. Well I did, for over two DECADES. Endless rain, grey skies, no blue sky, MORE rain, short summers….MORE RAIN! Yes, I moved to Las Vegas for SUNSHINE, SUNSHINE, SUNSHINE!! ….and to have a beautiful pool in my backyard…with Palm trees!!! 😎🤷🏼♂️😎
I like Vegas! Greetings from Europe!
VEGAS HATES LOCALS - MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THIS
I have lived in Vegas for 36 years and love it. To this date, I have stayed away from the casino life.
Problem is people are stuck in the past. It’s 2024 now not 1950.
Yep we locals of 35 years or more have been forgotten for far to long now ,we can't even go there it's just way to expensive now,,
Las Vegas is not about the people who live here but for the tourists and the resorts that cater to them. That is why we don't have nice things here.
All about greed! I wouldn’t live there for anything. No way. Crazy city to live in.
It's like that in every city. No one goes to the tourist centers everyday that are close to them. Everyone lives their lives in their local communities.
We have no "local community", no community at all.
Cry harder!
Im fine being away from the Strip!! Summerlin is just fine😂.
This is the new normal for all locals in cities going through growth these days.
Vegas died 20 years ago. America died. Society has fallen. The world will hopefully be done soon.
Boy, you must be a blast at parties. The world will go on as it always has!
Trump will have a place for U
All cities grow and change.
@@ATLIEN333 City living around the world.
Born and raised in Vegas and I feel forgotten. This city has gotten too big.
Focus on locals again? How much money you got to pay for that?
Lol they have always been forgotten 😅
I'm gen X, I want to be forgotten 😂
the growth of the suburban sprawl to the point where 1970s era neighorhoods are called historic west side because they are as inner city as 1890s neighborhoods are in east coast cities. a place that would still be pretty close to the edge of suburban sprawl in most other cities is considered close to downtown
I'm Moe Green!!
I made my bones when you were going out with cheerleaders!!!
That's how alot of us S.Fl natives feel about Miami and South beach. Vegas and a large part of FL is just to overwhelming for locals
The city doesn't focus on education because they have private schools for that. It's a gambling town!!!
That’s why they made stations casinos 😂
When I see the movie “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,” I miss the Vegas of old.
I remember driving up to Caesar’s Palace ……loooong way from the street …it was so exciting
Just don't go to downtown area. lol.
