i am blown away with you and your show! i am almost 80yrs old (24mar) and grew up in a mechanical family..dad was a shop foreman/service mgr when i was only two**i managed an AIR FORCE vehicle of 105 vehicles and retired 1989 after 22yrs, opening my own shop in 1999 staying active until 2006? been around motorized stuff my whole life..thank you as i "start over" w/China scooters.....wow
I have worked on MANY a Japanese bike. Even worked on an 883 Sportster. I have NEVER worked on a Chinese motor-anything until recently. I would be chasing my tail were it not for videos like this one. I have learned a lot about the gy6 in a VERY short time. Thank you for your video.

I came to see if you would "decode" how to determine short and long case and I love that it's the first thing you talk about and make it super easy to understand. Everyone else speaks jibberish. Now I can order a new engine with peace of mind. Thanks, brother.
Hey bro!! I bought my ruckus from a guy on Facebook and I’m the pics the bike was sweet!! But when I got there his hands were covered in grease and a lot of the parts in the pic weren’t there! But for the price I was paying I got a beautiful 171cc big bore gy6 150 cc bike which I am a little leery about because upon watching your video I put it on pause and went outside and the number your talking about was grinded off the bike!! So I called my buddy and told him to come by tomorrow so we can rip this bike apart and check it! So now because I know the stud spacing I will know exactly what I’m looking at!! Thank you brother!! Great videos love your energy!!
I'm so glad I just came back to this video I just picked up a engine today for 100bucks. I completely forgot about the stud spacing and almost just spent some money on stuff that may not fit.
I just got a malaguti Ciak 150cc and I believe it has a GY6 long case motor. It currently doesn’t run but is in great shape! Looking forward to pulling this thing apart and getting it on the road!
I was doing 20 miles an hour in reverse in my Scoot Coupe down hill when I did a double summersault combination half pike into a quad rolling back flip when I hit the subscribe button before successfully landing on all 3's !!.........
Yooo Homie, you are amazing with this stuff Dude!!! I really wanna learn more about my bike... I hate to sound stupid, but my bike is the 250cc Venom X22 GT and I wanna know my options to upgrading. Not sure how to contact you, but if you can, please contact me! 🙏
What if you have a 150cc but the engine stamped it as a qmb139 for registration purposes from factory 😂. I guess pull the head and measure studs is my only option?
I have been wanting to build myself a fun get around custom project for a while now. My 50cc 2 stroke skateboard is fun but not practical for distance. Now i have a gy6 50cc ugly funky scooter and im going to rip it apart and use the power plant (motor & CVT transmission) and front disc brake set up and modify a beach cruiser bicycle to fit the GY^ engine with all the goodies like water cooled 100cc big bore kit, stroker counterweighted crank, ported and polished cyl. head, turbo kit lower gearing and add all this to 26 inch heavy duty spoked bicycle wheels for an over all top speed around 70 mph! I will be fit to really get around easily during 5pm traffic jams!
Thank you. Nice, clear explanation regarding long/short case and A/B stud spacing. What I can't find info on is the difference between engines that have the swing arm lugs on the bottom of the cases (single shock applications?) and engines that have the swing arm lugs on the top of the crankcases (twin shock applications?). I have a SYM Orbit 125 which pivots at bottom (and only has a single shock) and a SYM VS150 that pivots at the top (and has twin shocks). The end of the cases where the shocks mount are also different. What gives?
I came across this go kart and trying to figure out what i have, the engine number is on the opposite side of what your showing, the number thats on it is JL1102-20D. It has 2 cables that control the forward and reverse on it. looking nfor a replacement motor for it, there is a 150cc stamped on the cylinder
I have a 157QMJ that i cannot seem to get a cylinder that fits properly. They will go on the studs but the two extra holes that are outside the timing chain housing are the incorrect pattern! What am I doing wrong? Please help! This cute little family project is growing to be just painful!!
One search, “how to know if I have a GY6?” And BAM!?! SOOOOO much info packed into a 5min video!! I JUST picked up a Chinese Back/half, I knew little to nothing... just knew I wanted faster! (Who doesn’t?! lol) I’m a Fabricator/Creator/builder, so making the 139QMB fit on an old school Spree frame is going to be a snap, but for what little I have invested ($150 for a turnkey Spree-learned it needs a stator I can’t get new, and the gamble on a used one for $100 just not worth it when 4/st parts are SO cheap! Plus the running/complete GY6 QMB back/half) I’m that guy that has to squeeze unrealistic numbers from a seemingly “timid” looking 80’s Honda Spree.... In short, I can’t Thank you enough for answering every question I had and saving me hours of searching!!
Of Course!! Some super valuable info right there! I mean, you didn’t make your wife cry, crash your car from being an idiot, post a video of someone falling down, or even attempt to dive into a completely frozen swimming pool, so, good on you! lol I am a little stuck when it comes to a big bore kit though.... I see there are several kits to pick from, and I’ve only been able to find one that’ll take me straight to the Max @ 52mm, however, I see most of these kits come with a disassembled head, but not sure if they come with the bigger valves and just aren’t showing it.... SO, Could I get your recommendation(s) on the BBK, cam, carb, Variator kit, valves, etc? Even if the parts are from several different sellers, I’m fine with that too, there’s just so many to pick from, I’d hate to buy parts I don’t need or don’t work together if I can help it.... Like I mentioned, I’m a builder, so putting it together and understanding what a “+/-“ tolerance is, no sweat.... I’m just looking for the biggest bang for the buck.... I’d really appreciate any guidance you’d be willing to offer!
That is very cool info and I feel still dumbfound because there is nothing about if can a 50cc be replaced with a 150cc or 232 or what not? What is the difference? Show us that too so knowing what can do and not to do. Thanks keep up awesome videos!
Recently picked up another ATV... (when Grandpa... you get into this game again...) But ID engines or finding more details of ID on engines are tough. Your YT is great, but it seems i need more info at times and resources are hard to find. This one has a 161QMK - B2 i get it as a GY6 200cc. B2? and i have a Kymco 50cc working on, and it is a LD10. (I cannot find much on this one either? Point me in the right direction?
I have 150 cc engine with a GY6 external reverse gear that broke. I’d like to know how to replace it and how do I make sure I get the right part thank you.
I used to ride big sport bikes..got hit by a truck and almost died..had my leg tore off..I'm healed up and jst got a Chinese stt dongfang 50cc.so I'm trying to learn about the motor. Ifuknow anything g about my kinda offbrand from style scooter I'd realy apriciate the info..great channel by the way..I'm gna sub right now
THANKYOU GOD FOR THIS MAN I NEEDED THIS IMFORMATION about to order a big bore kit for my wife's 150cc quad and it has a gy6 but I couldn't figure out if it was a A or B
Im looking for info on PGO scooters, specifically a 2013 PGO metro 125cc. They're made in Taiwan and imported into the US under the name Buddy. This particular one was originally from Guam and the owner shipped it home to the US with him (I have the original Guam Title and paperwork). There's no engine code above the serial, just a PGO brand stamp. Im in the process of teardown / autopsy and putting together a parts list and need to know what engine code to use when searching for parts. A local shop in Guam did a poor job of installing a big bore kit and despite the motor being low mileage and well maintained, there's carnage. It had an NCY head and cylinder and piston was stamped with 58.5.
Man, I really appreciate your videos. Kinda wish I had you as one of my teachers when I was a kid. Only trouble is you weren't born yet. Christ, neither were your parents. Oh well, better late than never. I am building the fastest motorscooter in the state and can't get enough of that little thumper. Thanks again.
I love your videos so informative. So I have a China buggy that has a GY6 motor in it 169 cc. So before I go doing performance mods how do I delete the governor on it. The model is a df200gka dongfeng. Any help would be appreciated guys thank you
Hello, Thank you for the informative video ........NOW to see how good you are..Ha! Ha! I have a motorized kayak ( Surfango) I think it is a GY6 but water cooled. The only marking I can find are P157...so one piston and 57mm if I am correct from your information. I think it is a 150cc engine. I am looking for parts but some of the GY6 parts do and don't fit. Would you have any idea of the model it uses? Thanks if you can help.
i really enjoy watching your channel, since i started watching u have inspired me to buy my first QMB139. i would love the oppurtunity to build a racing engine on my Wolf RX 50cc and can i put a gy6 150cc on this scooter. Thanks bro your the reason i got into the scooter life. Thanks hope to hear from u with some info oh and would totally rock a rolling wrench sticker on my gy6. please send a sticker. next build will be my ruckus hopefully
I have, what I believe to be, a GY6. However the plate with the numbers has only a "1P57F" and a serial "16120364". Can you tell from the F what engine it is. It does have two oil cooler ports on the crankcase.
How do you decode a gy6 that's not like qmj or others because my 150cc adventure does not have any of the letters or numbers that you have used in your decoding breakdown
Just watched your video, great information, but I need to know about this: "161QMK", its new and I don't want to remove any components till the warranty is up. It is on a trike - DF200TKA.
Knowledge is power! I have a Tao Tao 50? What kind of engine do they have & what should I upgrade to help run longer and better and possibly a bit faster?
I would go with the 52mm big bore kit and carb upgrade ive installed the 52mm kit many times and they work great just be sure to get the big valve head with the kit never use the stock head it will have way to much compression and will not last very long and for more topend speed upgrade the final drive gears
I Know This Video Is Older But It Has Helped Me! My GY6 On My Vento Motorcycle Is VE162FMJ Is This A Long Or Short And Where Can I Buy Parts For It? PLEASE HELP
Thank you! I have always wanted to know for sure what my engine size was on my Chinese scooter! You are so clear and the visuals are a blessing! Now to try and find out what kind of belt I need...
Great videos and valuable information Rolling Wrench! Thank you. I have a 2016 Sym HD 200 (171cc) with 19k miles. Runs like new just as the day I bought it and it still looks like it's right out of the showroom, etc. I do all my own routine maintenance, oil changes every 500 miles, all other fluid change-outs on time, valve lash exams, etc.,etc. Question: Seems to me this GY6 motor is going to continue to serve me well for many more years and miles to come although in your experience about how many more thousands of miles can I expect? Thank You Dean Seattle
I have a 150 cc four valve SYM (VS150) with 62000 kilometers.Oil changes always at 1500 kilometers and my riding styile is VERY abusive, always passenger and very heavy traffic. Pulls as new and my research leads me to spect 100000 kilometers before deep maintenance.
Hello @rollingwrench is there a link to order gy6 parts ? From other countries to PH theres so many gy6 engines here and owners want to upgrade but have limited supplies unlike other japanese brands .. i see good market here
Thanks for the information help a lot. Now I need help with what is the biggest big bore kit I can use on my 161QMK- B2? I think I got the short case 170cc engine with piston size 61mm. So what size piston I need to get to 232cc and what else I need to do to it? Thanks in advance
So I have a gy6 150cc in a go kart, a kandi. I just bought another go kart, I'm probably a hoarder, and the engine is a liquid cooled 250cc.the engine. Is in a box... Some assembly required. My question is if the 250cc engine is considered a gy6 as well? I need to. Get some missing parts and know what I have will help.
I just watched this and I am wondering if you know what motor would be in my trailmaster Challenger 300, I have never been underneath it really other than changing the oil so far. Question number two is this upgradable like these motors that you are doing demos with?
So I just bought 2 used and extremely abused off road go karts. The wiring is all butchered. Where is the best place to get complete wiring harness. I'd also like to replace the carburetor They're GY6 engine..A or B I have no clue. But will that matter for wiring
I bought a scooter that's supposed to have the GY6 motor I've been a little bit about him not a whole lot about enough to keep on going but there's no numbers on my block as you showing your video I just watched it's an extreme it don't have original plastic putter nothing like that it's kind of a monstrosity of monster I guess we could say and so can you tell me how I can find out what it is
i am blown away with you and your show! i am almost 80yrs old (24mar) and grew up in a mechanical family..dad was a shop foreman/service mgr when i was only two**i managed an AIR FORCE vehicle of 105 vehicles and retired 1989 after 22yrs, opening my own shop in 1999 staying active until 2006? been around motorized stuff my whole life..thank you as i "start over" w/China scooters.....wow
