I think more people should see this. Recently I’ve seen advertisements for semi tame ring necks. The advertisements say easy to tame. I wonder how many people get a bird and think they’ll end up with a TH-cam bird. I wonder how many are rehomed due to disappointment. What your showing is the reality. Best of luck with this little guy.🥰

Semi-tame? That may be as tame as IRNs get, generally speaking. Jules, I think, is doing great but he’s nothing like a sweet, cuddly conure. Land Shark is doing ( not good, still trying). She’s become a cuddle bunny because she wants the love and comfort. Interesting because she’s always liked me and been somewhat affectionate. If Jules were sick like her, I highly doubt he would seek too much comfort, like her.
Yeah, bothers me that people likely get IRN and are disappointed.

Would love to see a video on the differences between harnesses and tethers and how to use. I have 2 cockatiels that I really want to take along with me!

Yes, these two are too good at surviving, so they become troublemakers- and then aren’t allowed in the state! What state are you in?

Have you seen any Luzon parrots available in the States? I think they are related to ringnecks but may have a very different temperament.

I’ve only seen Tanygnathus megalorynchos once or twice, related. Rare-

I asked the manager at our parrot store when we went this week if Amazon's are typically one person birds like u often say. They said the breeder/ owner, Traci (our local parrot expert and help line) said that's a common misconception, but isn't true.
She said Amazon's need to be socialized to be more than 1 person birds. They don't always trust easily and can be quick to engage their beaks. Since they tend to be intimidating to people it's harder for all family members to be able to create a bond with them.
That sounds pretty similar to our experience in our family. The bravest and most persistent members of our family have created a bond with ours.
He'll even go to some visitors and have fun interacting with them! It helps if they act fearless. He also LOVES all little children, but sadly he's too rough to let them hold him. They have a blast talking to each other through the bars, though ^-^
    He's 3 years old now!

I wonder if your expert has Amazon’s as pets. In any case, I’ve had several people say the same thing to me, their Amazon is a one person in bird. If you ever met my Lorenza… I’m sure that there are some exceptions, and if they are well socialized as younger parrots, it may not be a problem. Ursulus is pretty good with everyone in my house. However, I think that it would be unwise to get an Amazon, and assume that they will not be a one person bird. I’ve had too many people say that there’s is, and I certainly have experienced it too.

@@ParrotBliss that makes sense :) Yes - they currently have a spectacled and they used to have a rescue that was a yellow nape. (Gave them the worst bite they ever had. )
Good point - it takes skill, luck, work and the right timing NOT to have one that's only bonded to one person. But maybe mention that it's possible they could be a family bird if they put in the effort, but be prepared for them to end up being a one person bird :)
They said Greys are true one person birds.

@@ks4893-m8v lol! With grays, I’ve never experienced that. Then again, mine have been adult rescues, so we recognize that our experience is different than if we’d had raised a baby. I haven’t heard this a lot , but I tend to believe it

@@ks4893-m8v It’s like this: they learned how to social distance before the pandemic. If you keep your distance, they like you. If they walk towards you, keep your distance. They want to be around, watch, get treats, make sounds/sing/talk - but NO TOUCHING! No petting! Only social distancing!!!
That’s how they are with us all :)

I think that’s an asiatic parrot thing. I dealing with the same thing with Seamus. He will interact with me but only when he wants and he will take treats from me but will not step up or let me touch him at all.

    • @ParrotBliss
      @ParrotBliss  2 ปีที่แล้ว

I think some conures rub their tail on the cage sides. Let them out as much as you can and try a larger cage, if you can. I know, it’s awful having their tails wear- they are so beautiful when they are perfect!
