Our new male Indian Ringneck has this "friendly" nibble behaviour. We chose him as a companion to our untamed Ringneck. The new Ringneck is very tamed, speaks, makes the sweetest things etc., and his biting is really not aggressive I can tell. But it hurts, and I'm really concerned when he gives kisses and gets my lip in his beak. The previous owner said we have to show him that we really do not tolerate it. But there is this thin line, were we could loose his trust. Either by shouting out too loud "NO!" and frighten him or by shaking him too much when it hurts us. Ahh and the second problem that we have with him, both ringnecks basically ignore each other, don't spend time with each other.
I have a three year old male IRN… he can be very sweet and loving but can often become aggressive at the most random moments. Examples have been as follows,… I was offering treats to my other bird (Quaker) and my IRN flew over showing her wanted one too. When I went to give him it his eyes pinned and he lunged to my hand trying to bite. I pulled back and waited till he was calm and let him take it then. But it’s still a little unnerving as to why he felt like he wanted to attack when giving him a treat. I decided to try and clicker train him one day. I would make the clicker noise and give him a treat right away so the sound was associated to a reward. He took to it maybe the first 3 times, and the fourth time he lunged and not my finger instead of taking the treat. He has moments of being a bit territorial over my Quaker. I’ve had my Quaker much longer and anytime I try to give him some quality time my IRN usually flies right over to my and will watch intensely at what we are doing. One day my Quaker flew over to me for kisses and my IRN flew over and make a growling loud noise, landed on my shoulder and bit my ear. Really scary experience: I feel like these moments have been really unpredictable for me. For the most part he’s super sweet and loves his cuddles and being spoken to. But he has these moments and as a new IRN owner I’m finding it difficult to read his body language like ive been able to with my Quaker.
I appreciate your video. I have a Ringneck who is 10 weeks old and is biting my hands and ear. So painful. I realize it takes time as she is in my home for only a week but I am struggling showing her love when I am constantly in pain. Ugh.
Thank you for watching - yes, not an affectionate species. Spend a lot of time with her and let her do what she wants so she comes to you on her terms and hopefully is sweeter 😀
I have two baby IRN (1 male 1 female) and the male will try to bite/lunge at whoever tries to touch him, and the female will run away if you try to touch her, and she’s starting to bite as well, do you suggest any solution for this behavior?
I love birds, but I'm scared to get bitten, so I only have parakeets, fischer and the largest bird I have is a cockatiel. Tiel and keets never bites me but fischers do it sometimes. They were hand fed since 3 weeks old. I'm planning to get an Indian ringneck but a lot of people said that they are nippy, and with that bigger beak I'm sure it'll hurt a lot. Does your irn bites a lot before you tamed it? Was it hand fed as well that's why it's behaved and sweet?
Indian ringnecks are not affectionate. They are a more independent species. If I were you, I would do more research, because it doesn’t sound like I would recommend one for you. Yes, when they bite… And my female gets jealous and bites easily. I would really consider another species.
Hello what is the best training tips to stop the biting issues for my ringneck and she is 11 months old. To start a good reforcement for behavior. She can be aggressive with my partner and but she can be great with me sometimes. Can ringnecks can be aggressive towards each other? Another way to put her back in the cage without the towel?
Hi there! I have a one year old lutino indian ringneck that is extremely cuddly and LOVES to play hes very sweet and i’ve noticed he mostly bites when hes tired and wants to sleep at night... but sometimes when hes on my shoulder he just sorts of attacks my face for no reason at all and i’ve bled twice from this and have small scars on my face... do you suggest any solution for this and what could be the reason behind this strange behavior... Thankss💗
Your IRN sounds wonderful - what is his name? He's still young, he's expecting you to feed him. Without seeing him doing this, that is my guess. Even though a bird is weaned, their parents still feed them while they are teaching them to hunt. Try having treats for him, healthy treats. See if that helps. LMK how it goes. You can also post a video by joining Parrot Bliss Flock on FB, that way I can see :)
i have a indian ringneck.she can talk but she still bite me hard.if i try to catch her or touch her she just fly way and bite me always and she become very aggressive😭😭she stay in case always if i try to get him out,she don't come out she just bite me.(she is 2.5 years old)
Hello so i got 1 year old ringneck and he bites me like i feed him nothing heppens. But when i put my hand on the cage its about to bite me.Should i let him bite or just i need to leave him alone?Hes opssesed with the mirror too
I've never heard anything positive about mirrors, I would remove it. Let his cage be his space- take him out with a stick and try to do some target training. It will distract him and allow you to offer treats in a way that will be positive for you both. Removing the mirror alone may help a lot. LMK how it goes.
My bird goes into attack mode when I go near him in his cage :( I just got him 2 days ago and the guy tamed him so he’s used to him but he doesn’t like me that much
@@ParrotBliss he doesn’t chirp or anything also he’s very quiet he just stares at me . Now when I come near him he won’t fly off as much or attack but idk how to make him more comfortable
How do I stop him squawking? I adopted a cock because his life was in danger, 6 years on he’s sending me crazy!!! Would it send me double crazy if I got him a mate? Please help me.... he use to bite but after 2 years of touching his beak gently he progressed not to be aggressive but now dominates my small flat and big heart. I now also have a pigeon living in my garage who has Imprinted on me also. I’m a walk over to birds it seems.
Welcome Joey! Is your engine ring neck male or female or do you know? No, unfortunately I don't play the piano but they sure like music. We play music for them, a song list we created that we call "Morning for Birds"
Indian ringnecks are often nippy. They are also jealous regarding affection shown to other pets. They are not good starter birds for inexperienced owners. Adding a companion bird for Indian Ringneck is not a good idea.
Wish I could disagree… they are challenging in these ways. Unfortunately, people don’t know what they are like when they get them- or at least that’s how it seems to me. I got my IRN a companion, but the 2nd has his own cage. I don’t expect to put them together, I just didn’t want the first to be the only IRN in my flock.
I noticed you talk w your hands alot. That can make certain birds bitey. Especially if its near their face or above them. No offense. Just trying to help.
Than you, I do talk with my hands. When I'm working with a bird I'm aware of my hands. I try to slow down and keep my hands down, low. You are correct, hands can scare them, especially from above them.
