hi rae 🤗 the small/original side does look more defined. the large/wheat protein side has more volume. the good thing for both sides is *no* flakes. tfs
Most botanicals gels are formulated to be applied to soaking wet hair without a leave-in because they do not contain stronger holding agents that can adhere to a leave-in unless formulated to do that. UFD has always been formulated to adhere to soaking wet hair only, even before they were acquired. You are free to check out AshkinsCurls ancient review of this gel before they were acquired. A Botanical Gel has multiple purposes. They encapsulate the curl to provide hold. They contain humectants that ensure that the hair is able to receive moisture (water) from the atmosphere to keep the hair moisturized (water) throughout the week. They aid in detangling and are water loving. UFD still performs as intended as long as it is used as intended based on how it formulated. The hair is made up of protein. It can not be sensitive to itself. Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein is not a protein treatment. It's meant to maintain the structure of the hair hair. I personally don't believe in glycerin sensitivity anymore because that person would need to eliminate all possible contributing factors. Glycerin's job is to attract moisture from the atmosphere. Getting frizz from using glycerine isn't a sensitivity because it's doing it's job. However, I do believe in poorly formulated products that contain glycerin. UFD isn't one of them. The only thing I noticed is that it is thicker and has more slip due to more marshmallow root. It's definitely more concentrated and can easily become sticky if overused or paired with the wrong product. At the end of the day, the only person that knows what the original formula is the hairstylist that created it.

*update I just tried this New formula and yep it’s a no go for me, the addition of the glycerine just makes this a goopy mess for my hair and I added a ton of water and it still doesn’t work as well as the original, I might try it as a “leave in” underneath a mousse
Ive learned, There is a learning curve to this product. Water is the key to this product. It has to be super wet. And emulsifying helps with the sticky feel.
Question? How can the products be compared if they are not used exactly how the instructions say use it? It doesn't say to apply a topper gel, just curious?
I compared the gels first by ingredients, sight, feel, glide, stickiness, etc. before ever putting a topper gel on. Once I put the topper on, I compared the look and feel, definition, etc. After my hair dried, I compared the moisture, curl definition, longevity, etc. So I covered all bases. I have used this gel in the shower as well, in previous videos, so I even did it as the instructions say. So, in short, this video gives my thoughts on the two versions and they are very similar. The only thing that is different is the side with glycerin is a little more frizzy, but I don't mind frizz so I will probably still use the gel. Thanks for the question.
@@NaturalRaeRae Look for old blogs or threads from that time and some will compare the original ingredient list to the second. The second, would later be revised to be closer to the first, due to customer disapproval of the change. This would be the third ingredient list before this fourth final change.
I can't see a difference in your WnG. Both sides look great to me.💜 I've done the same experiment on my own hair with the exceptions of doing shower application, not using a leave-in, and not applying a topper gel. They did feel a little different in my hands, but the final look was the same on both sides of my hair and I didn't experience any increased frizziness.

Thank you!!
@@NaturalRaeRae Your welcome.
They look the same 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ pretty 💓
Thanks
Ive learned, There is a learning curve to this product. Water is the key to this product. It has to be super wet. And emulsifying helps with the sticky feel.
I know that. I've used this gel multiple times in prior videos.
Thanks for responding
Thanks for responding
The glycerin side seems a bit more dull and less juicy. But neither side looks bad.
Thanks
Your hair looks amazing 👏
Thank you!!
I feel like the left side look a little more defined and shiny
UFD has had 4 changes to Curly Magic's ingredients since 2014.
Wow, I didn't know that.
Thanks for sharing!!
So are you saying that you don't like the original side? You were touching the your left side disapproving. The right side (new formula) looked good especially in the front...still really defined.
I liked both sides in the end. I feel like the new formula wasn't quite as moisturized after some days, but I would use either formula. Thanks for tuning in.
I didn't see any difference tbh, it came out great! I've used this for a few years now and never noticed a change at all.
Thank you and I'm glad you haven't noticed a change and the product still works for you. I appreciate you watching.
I did a comparison between the two and the glycerin side was dry and crunchy after the first day. The one without glycerin was defined and was not crunchy afterwards. The old formula is no longer available so I have had to find an alternative. All gels with glycerin high up on the ingredient list just don’t work for me.
Sorry to hear that. I hope you find another gel that works for your hair. Thanks for tuning in.
@@NaturalRaeRae yeah I have found my perfect gel now thank goodness. Your curls always look great no matter what gel you use. Thanks for the comparison video
@@KLT828 I'd love to know: what is your new "perfect gel" ?? :)
@@samiraj.192 the mop top anti frizz gel. It has glycerin in it but not high up on the ingredient list , I do hope they keep It that way. It has a citrus smell also which smells clean. It has really been great for my coily curls. It has been the best gel that I have tried. I sometimes use it with the I create hold as a topper but even when I don’t it works well for my delicate strands. I was hesitate because of the price tag but if it works for me why not right😜
I just went to Target to see if I could find couple of bottles with the old formula.... No success
Sometimes you can find the old formula at places that don’t sell high value of products like a Rite Aid Pharmacy or a CVS
I know it's hard to find.
I live in Australia it’s Nov 2022 I just found 5L of the original and stocked up!!
I stop using UFD because my hair felt different!
I didn't see a significant difference. It looked good all over! 😁
Thanks. Once I stretched it, both sides looked very similar.
Looks the same to me .
Your hair look is the same on both sides to me both wet and dry.
No difference .
