What you're doing is incredibly important. You're a hilarious, intelligent, and all around wonderful role model for younger people. (Maybe even for all people) I'm being completely honest and sincere when I say that watching you call the government and large corporations out on their increasingly disgusting misuse of power gives me hope and restores my faith in what makes our country strong, resilient and (hopefully) a nation that properly sets a decent moral and ethical example and precedent. I just hope you read this and know that you made my day and that your honest, direct, and no bullshit approach truly matters and it's people like you who stand up for what they believe in and have the heart to voice their opinion and spread the word that our government doesn't have our best interests in mind and that we need to stay vigilant NOW or we will lose fucking everything we hold dear. Just know that you're so fucking impressive and that I'm proud that you're a true patriot and truly a fucking badass. I'm no simp. Your friend doesn't sound very bright. Then again, I was watching CNBC this morning and two of the hosts were aggressively cheering for government censorship online. The third host and the guest being interviewed were understandably horrified.
IMHO the core problem is naive people assuming "disinformation" = obviously false statement of facts, when in practice it means anything that makes the government/ruling class look bad. The suppression of vaccine injury information has been a stunning success for the disinfo police. Yet even mentioning potential downsides will immediately get you accused of believing all sorts of things that have nothing to do with the facts of that situation. The pandemic broke a lot of people's brains.

Sad fact, that day has already passed. People don't give a fuck as long as they can get their mocha chocha latte, with soy milk and an extra cherry on the side. The vast majority don't (I originally put Noone, but that would be incorrect) wants to take responsibility for their own actions let alone collective responsibility. I've worked in public life, people are inconsiderate, ignorant, bafoons that can barely think 5 minutes ahead. My theory is that the internet has made it way too easy for people to find echo chambers and fill them up with likeminded people. They're no longer forced to argue their own side of the issues, but instead just sat there going "I'm so glad I'm not the only reasonable person in this world."
Well, that and this whole idea that children shouldn't experience anything bad in their upbringing at any point. If the kids never learn to deal with opposition, they will never learn to look past it and work together to achieve something.

Discourse was only polite so long as it didn't offend the sensibilities or threaten the power of those who belonged to the ingroup. The internet merely leveled the playing field for all the people who would've just been told to fall in line with the majority. The tribalism and vitriol was always there. We can just see it a lot clearer now. In order to meaningfully listen to opposing opinions, a person must desire the truth, to be right even if it means their previously held opinions are proven wrong. Most people only care about feeling like they're right and will protect their sacred cows to the death. Apologies if this rant was a bit too cynical.

Yup, and it's arguably because of a single sentiment that got popular, then gutted to warp the main point, then recirculated as if the warped version is the true one. That sentiment being "It doesn't matter if you're right, if you're an asshole about it."
Once that started circulating, people started chopping off the "about it" part to change it to "it doesn't matter if you're right if you're an asshole," which in turn is interpreted as "It doesn't matter if you're right if I don't like you, because I don't want to give you the satisfaction of being right."
They're the kind of people who could sit down with Hitler and Einstein to have a conversation about the laws of physics, listen to Hitler and Einstein agree, and deduce that both of them are wrong simply on the grounds that they hate Hitler and don't want to admit that anything that comes out of his mouth ever has even an ounce of validity (even if it has nothing to do with his problematic, racist worldviews).

It doesn't matter how much power your title bestows upon you, private venues and websites have all rights to ban your ass on the spot for breaching their Terms of Service as if that title is meaningless (Because to them it is). For instance if I were to go to a store screaming obscenities at their staff and other customers they'd be well within their rights (As the store is their private property) to have me thrown out on my ass and ban me from coming back, just as Twitter or Reddit would be well within their rights as the owner of what is effectively virtual private property to ban me for antisemitism or other assorted hate speech.

I don't think your comparison between platforms on the internet and private venues has as much weight behind it as you think. I think the differences are more than enough to warrant different approaches. I don't buy that Twitter or Reddit (etc.) are, in effect, virtual private property. They are far too broad a space to compare to your example of a store. They are closer to an entire digital planet or country than they are the constrained space of a store, a key factor in their role as a "public square."
I'd argue the store comparison better works with an individual's feed or subreddit. _Don't like the person spouting obscenities at you? Kick them out of the store by _*_blocking them,_*_ not banning them from the whole platform._ In this way you have the ability to filter people out, without taking away their right to free speech.

I don't think misinformation can ever truly be combatted online, and I'm not sure if it even should be. I think it would be more valuable for people to be taught at a young age to discern what is a reliable source of information and how to fact check. People nowadays just believe anything they see on social media.

You can still get some of that by going to the dark web forums (use VPN and tor) only issue is that the unmoderated ones often turn into endless circle jerking of racist jokes and racial slurs (I wish I was exaggerating) because for whatever reason, there's a specific group of people who desperately crave to type out racial slurs and they all flok to these forums as some kind of catharsis.
However, there are some good moderated forums that are done very well in the dark web, that allow freedom of expression and any topic, but will remove all the pointless hate slurs from the mix. So you can actually have civil conversations, anonymously, and the discussions can get very interesting.

You can do a lot of things, like knowing who owns and who backs the newsletters and sites where you read. You can learn about the subject to know if the news is doing obvious mistakes. You can learn about the writer of the story. You can apply a set of simple rules (like analyzing how the adjectives are being used, or if there is any fallacy).
But ofc is not easy and most ppl don't want to put the effort in all that. However, if your family teaches those tecnics from an early age, it will be natural for you and you will be able to detect obvious misinformation with ease.
