I remember penta com stat on 2524KHZ in Australia back in the 80’s along with the government run Sydradio marine networks.

It's important to note that this month feb, 2022 the uscg stopped monitoring emergency bands for most of the USA. Still in operation in Alaska and pr.
This is probably the final nail in the coffin of marine radio since it's very inexpensive to text via satellite now and it requires no special licenses. I pay $50 a month for unlimited sat texting and weather updates.

I read, sometime in the fairly recent past, that cw marine mode is still in limited use in some pacific/far-east countries. Not much though.

I have heard rumours, but i've never seen/heard actual proof that it is still in use.

There are some beacons near ports etc which keep on sending out self identification Morse code messages.

Hello Sir how are you....I have bought Tecsun PL 990x and starting my DXing . I want to know your opinion about DRM broadcast,in India most radio channels are shifting to DRM broadcast but has not shut their Analogue counterparts yet. So is DRM is the future and AM is going to be discarded in foreseeable future i dont know whats happening worldwide. It will be very sad if it happens as I miss my childhood days of listening to SW on my Grandfather old radio in early 90s.

Do you need a marine radio? I lived close to a river and the tow boat used Marine radio I have to H F rigs, no marine radios and as I under stand it you are a land luber. you can''t use a marine radio. I was going to get a marine radio and some one told me it was against the law to transmit on the marine bands. if you were not on the water. I guess this subject came up because there was a guy that was in the gulf and we were talking about hf and the water compared to Hf.

Oh woww, thanks! I’m definitely gonna check that out. Seems very informative. I have a Panasonic rf-1150 that has marine band but never tried it. I usually only use it for medium wave and fm. Thanks again. Really appreciated.
