    I've never wanted to read Piranesi more than after hearing YOUR thoughts about it!

    Love how true you are HAHA. I should add all the books I didn't finish for the monthly TBR. I know for June... I said I'd finish all of my physical books but I did not finish 50% of it 😂 Loving all the literary books that you've read. The horror pick definitely was a surprising pick from you to me 😳 Though if I ever see someone is visiting a grave, I feel like I wouldn't be the one to be figuring out the mystery 😭 That's a NOPE from me. I get scared so easily!!!

      @@itsmimiduong Haha I definitely didn’t finish all of mine! 😂 I might rethink the monthly setup for my own tbr, like keep the book club ones by month, but then just read the five I pick for me in however long it takes me, as long as I’m still excited for them, and not abandon them just because it’s a new calendar month! That always seemed strange to me anyways, but I got into the booktube swing of things. It is fun though, to pick the prompts and all, but it’s also a bit stressful to read with a deadline! 😂
      Marina was my pick for horror mayhem, so I started it I May and then continued in June. I don’t read horror at all, but I didn’t know this was horror when I bought it! It was an auto buy from the author who is one of my favorites! It is creepy but really good 😊 I would not go looking for that grave lady either haha not in a million years, she can do her thing I’ll mind my own business 😂😂😂

      It's very easy to fit in! Pretty short and a pretty easy read, apart from the confusion ^^ Yes, I had a lovely reading month! Thanks for being here! 😊

    What a good reading month! I recently finished Yellowface and Dead Poets Society. I'm currently working through The Old Man and The Sea, Annihilation, and Howls Moving Castle :)

    Quality over quantity always! But I always feel bad putting books back at the end of the month, haha. I’m so glad you loved The Wager and As Long As The Lemon Trees Grow though, I just placed a library hold for both and can’t wait to read them! I finished Parable of the Sower a couple nights ago and loved it! Well, loved it might be the wrong term haha but it was really good and a thought provoking read for sure. Just started reading a romance last night (Just For The Summer) and will be starting a cozy mystery audiobook today (The Man Who Died Twice) 😊

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely! I know, I feel so bad too! I'm thinking I might do my personal tbr just a number of books and then just allow myself the time to finish them. I don't need to renew the pile just because it's a new month, I feel like the deadline is stressing me out sometimes! For book club it's fine, but for my personal pile I could just keep going.
      Oh fun, I look forward to hear how you'll like them! You have such a varied reading anyways, so I feel like you could enjoy both of them. Especially Lemon Trees, it's real but has a warmth to it, I feel like that's your vibe 😊
      I'm so glad you loved Parable! I have mixed feelings, but I'm not sure if it's about the book, or the contents, if that makes sense. I felt miserable reading it, but that might have been the point, so... well done..? 🥴 😂
      That sounds like a perfect summer combo! I'm skeptical about the Thursday books, but I think it's because I read Harold Fry, or tried to and didn't like it, and then I just decided that the whole senior character adventures was not for me. I hope you'll enjoy it though!

    I‘m currently reading Yellowface which I‘m sadly not loving as much as hoped. Still interested though.
    But I loved the one I finished yesterday: We All Want Impossible Things by Katherine Newman. Flawed characters, friendship and relationship dynamics, sickness & hospice care. I loved the writing. I think it’s not for everyone, but I’d recommend it if you’re up for a character driven, emotional story

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that wasn't my favorite either, unfortunately! It's worth reading, but I found it quite annoying.
      I think the Newman one sounds really good, but it would probably be more than I could handle. I tend to shy away from that particular sickness, it hits too close for me. It sounds like a beautiful story though, and I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for the suggestion! 😊

    I read The half-drowned king a few months ago, listened to the audiobook in English and the English pronunciation of Norwegian names and places kept interfering with my enjoyment of the book, so I understand what you mean about the Mercies. Interestingly, it did not bother me when I listened to Burial Rites, that has so many Icelandic names snd places. The narrator of that book had obviously made a huge effort to learn the correct pronunciation and although it wasn't perfect, it made listening to it much more smooth.

    • @ellenmadebookclub
      @ellenmadebookclub  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right?! It was so weird! I'm glad I'm not alone, I felt very picky quitting it, but it was so distracting 😂 They said it kind of Norwegian as well, but still not quite, so it was like a mix of two foreign languages... nope! I think it would have been easier if it had been Swedish words, but since they were basically the same, but with British / Norwegian accent, it didn't register in my brain the way it should have 😂 I'm glad it didn't ruin Burial Rites for you! 😊 I have high hopes for The Mercies, so I didn't want to waste it.

      @@BonnieNicoleWrites That’s good to know! I really wanted to get to that in June, if was next on my list, but just couldn’t fit it in. I’m thinking about this monthly setup, which I always found a bit strange to begin with, but I also fun! But I’m thinking I might switch to just reading the five books I choose in however long it takes me and then choose five new ones. @@ellenmadebookclub Oh that's a good idea! That way you can still get to the ones you want, even if it's not strictly within a month. I've only done two months of an official TBR and even those two months didn't work for me 😂so I want to figure out my sweet spot too.
