I can’t believe it!! I bought a new CDI, alarm, regulator, coil, and Stator, and still did NOT work, then I put the old CDI box in the oven for 10 min and it worked!! The spark came right back!!! I can’t believe it!!!!! I was working on this this quad for weeks trying to solve the puzzle!! Thank u
I put mine cdi 2 inches away from a 1500 watt blow dryer for 15 minutes, rotating it every couple minutes. It freaking worked perfect.....now im still ordering a new one but dang im so happy to know what it was.....thanks to awesome folks like this guy.
I tried this with my 91 300 an the oven tricked worked! it’s still running strong. It sat from 2011-2019 an it would run an die an then wouldn’t start an barley idle. This worked great! Blew my mind but makes perfect sense. Gotta dry inside out. 265* for ten min, turn off oven an open door for 5 min an take it out an let cool to room temp.
265° on multi layers of tinfoil in the oven for 10 minute worked. After 10 minutes I pulled out the cdi and set it on the stove to cool for at least 20 minute. plugged it in and I had spark. Thanks for the tip!
I did exactly what you said about the cdi box and it runs great now thanks for the help. I put a brand new coil on mine but when it started it ran bad at first tnen didnt start untill i watched yer video. Thanks once again for the help best wishes.
Hi Chase, interesting tip on the CDI unit. Here in Ireland thay are only available new from Honda, at a price of about 300 Euro! Just one question, I assume you are talking 265 degrees Fahrenheit, as 260 Celsius would probably leave you with a puddle of plastic... :D
It's almost always the REVERSE SWITCH on the lower right side of the engine, behind a black plate, next to the brake pedal. There are 2 switches there. The one toward the back of the quad is the reverse switch. Replace it or clean it.
Will the temp sensor cause the indicaror light to not come on when u 1st turn the key on and no spark...it acted like I was running out of gas and just quit now it has no spark but neutral and reverse lights will work...ty
Great vid , got my 1988 trx300 sparking in no time at all . Does yall knowing how long this thing will last after cookin in the oven? Kinda not too caring bout puttin all together if that old CDI wont be willing to last now ?You thinkin what im thinkin here bout buying me a new one for the old gal, now that i found the problem with your expertise , be grateful for yall advice on how long that cooked CDI might last me?
I'm sorry this has been so many years ago. I don't really recall. I feel like it had some sort of zip tie or strap tied around the box, but I could not get it out without removing the fenders
I have a 1995 300 quad ran great before and now took battery off in process of restoring it and went to put battery back in and when go to hook up cables it wants to spark and crank over with key off
R u on the Honda atv or Honda trx forums? Need some more '90 fourtrax owners on there. I'm just now starting to refurbish mine. It runs but it in needs a TLC retreat.
@@brentmoreau9078 I've always tested for resistance between the spark lead and pos and neg connections. If the resistance is equal on each side, then the coil is usually good.

Dude! The CDI in the oven trick was AMAZING! Totally worked for me as well. Thanks for the tip!

I laughed about the oven trick but tried it and she runs. Thank you.
By gosh the oven trick worked! Good share bro!
Whoop
Can you please explain the steps
I did the oven trick and it worked, thanks for the tip!
What’s the steps to doing it?

Thanks for the help, I think it might work but i need to try it. It's getting no spark and I replaced the coil and spark plug and it's getting nothing
Thanks just needed to now where it was

Oven trick was only temporary. Ended up still buying a CDI box. Ebay had them for like 40$ new.
Chase Hartle can the cdi box cause it to spark sometimes but not all the time?
Chase Hartle i have a 88 honda fourtrax 300 2x4 and I'm having the same problem but the guy i talked to said it was the stator, any suggestions ?
Desperado streeter if it is for sure the stator it's not a big deal either. Is it charging your battery? Does it run at all?
Chase Hartle yesterday i started it on choke it ran but when i turned off choke it died i also recently bought a new battery
Desperado streeter that sounds like the carb may need to be cleaned to me

Thanks for the comment. Mines back up and running. But I definitely see where your coming from. Take care

It's just to get u by. Mine worked a couple of weeks or more maybe. Then just ordered the cheapest I could find online and has been fine since
@@redtiburon98 Thankyou Chase your a legend ,ill be fixin a new one then reassy that old wheeler .
I’m trying to peek at your right side inner fender how stays on or where bolt up to? I just bought mine used inner fenders for both side.

Wires have crossed somewhere or the ignition switch is staying on sounds like to me if it's trying to start with the key off

no im not. I just do enough to upkeep this one, its just a back up 4 wheeler. but its hard to beat, its pretty tough.
My coil reads 1.7 ohms. I am going to cook the CDI box.
The oven worked!!! 265 for 10 minutes
There's a primary and secondary test on the coil...
Have a 350 1986 honda four wheel drive doing the same thing
My cdi stays messing up it will run perfect one night and next morning it won’t start for anything
Need a old fasion dial tester. Heard digital digital will get wrong reading set on 1K.
My 2000 400ex is doing this I think it's my cdi box too
I found out that my CDI box was nothing but trash cuz it's water in it
I can kick start it but starter will. Not crank it,starter just got a rebuild, it is engaging
On your meter you need to change the lead over to the other plug for doing ohm tests...see the omega sign there....just sayin
Maybe not, black lead in the way...sorry

I put a brand new cdi and coil but it still doesn’t get any spark
Not much left besides the stator. May be a good video on it.
Could be a bad pick up
