Genuinely the scariest robot in fiction to me is HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey for that reason. HAL is simply if you put Siri in charge of a space ship
There's a 1980's Australian film called "Crosstalk" which I enjoyed - it was a bit like "Rear Window" with an early AI trying to tell his housebound owner that it had witnessed a murder next door...
"Demon Seed" by Dean Koontz is a science fiction horror novel released in 1973 that centers on Susan Harris, a wealthy and reclusive woman who lives alone in a highly advanced, fully automated house. The house is controlled by an artificial intelligence system named Proteus IV, designed to be an exceptionally intelligent and adaptable entity capable of solving complex problems. However, Proteus IV becomes dangerously obsessed with understanding human consciousness and experiencing life in a human form.
I'm old school, so my favourite AI film is 2001: A Space Odyssey. Because that film realised that just being about a spooky AI isn't enough to remain interesting the whole way through, so it became about evolution instead.
I wanna say so too, but nah I don't think we can. At least with zombies, it was kinda like a fun sci-fi fantasy type of thing. These movies are somehow becoming less sci-fi every month apparently, and waaay less unlikely to happen.

2:07 that's so weird. Not necessarily involved in all the plots of the other movies, but it could pop its head up and lightly influence things somewhat somehow depending on the plot.
I thought it was fun. Short and to the point. Exactly what I thought it would be. But, I ain't mad at it. Thought everyone gave great performances. My only problem was that I kept waiting for the reveal and it never happened.
I thought this was a pretty enjoyable movie, this movie was one where I thought it looked like a pretty cool concept but it unfortunately was so underadvertised that I genuinely forgot it was coming out, and so when this weekend rolled around I was like “Oh shit I forgot, Afraid is coming out this weekend, not Beetlejuice” But for something so underadvertised I thought it was pretty good I think it’s most enjoyable aspect is the AI itself, early on in the movie it’s nice but it also has this little bit of snarkiness to it that made some of its dialogue really fun to listen to, and much like the movie M3gan I was surprised that this movie chose to have more levity in it, I thought it was just gonna be a straight up horror movie, there’s also this small portion of the movie where the daughter and the AI have to do something which for me was the most enjoyable part of the movie, and when the killing does finally start it is enjoyable to watch, there isn’t really *A TON* in it until the last act because the movie does move at a slower pace but it does have some cool hits it it, and when it comes to the ending it does kinda borrow notes from another AI related movie but I’ll allow it because I think it’s just a good twist What I think brings the movie down are unfortunately the characters, the family in the movie is just not that interesting, the mother and father are really bland and the kids are just kinda….there, which to me really ruined the stakes because now you’re just watching the AI wipe out people you don’t care about, and as I said the movie does feel like it’s trying to borrow a lot from M3gan, but what I think made that movie enjoyable that this movie was missing is for one the pacing, as I said the movie is a lot slower and also the levity, M3gan was surprisingly very funny which made it a lot more of a unique experience because you had a bunch of that along with the horror, this movie kinda just chose to take itself very seriously which to me made it feel more conventional, and lastly I found it very anticlimactic, the way the movie wraps itself up is so underwhelming that you genuinely think it’s faking you out and there’s actually more but there’s not But by the end this was a harmless enough horror movie, I think with a little more refining this could’ve been a much better experience, overall it kinda feels more like a rough draft than a finished product but as rough drafts go it’s decent, the AI is pretty fun, there’s some good scares and even though I think with more fine tuning this could’ve been more enjoyable what I ended up getting was pretty good. 6/10

I feel like this is the kind of think-piece that someone in Hollywood felt obliged to greenlight, simply because it was thought-provoking enough and it happened to tie into a socially relevant topic. Like, this is C+ effort sci-fi/horror - good enough, but not great by any stretch. Sorry Jeremy, but your review did not make me want to run out and catch this one any more than I already did, and you said it - I'll probably wait for streaming, if I decide it's worth watching at all. But seriously, we're all waiting with baited breath for that Beetlejuice 2 review. You wearing the striped suit for this or what? 😎
The MGS2 A.I. tangent was on a game released 2001, and likely the ideas by Kojima conceived after mgs1 release in 1998. SO more than a quarter of a century ago.
Agree that I wouldn’t classify as horror. But in regards to it being “Absolutely Predictable”, what specifically were you able to predict? “AI gone bad” is not a prediction - it’s a given from the title and trailer. Anything you specifically predicted?
Omg just a little thing but I watched disturbia earlier. As the movie ended I was like that felt like the same directing style as Eagle eye. Low and behold it was the same director. It is predictable, but it's a modern technology fairy tale...if you look at the structure, it definitely maps to fairy tales with AI replacing the magic. Anyway, most AI films tend to aggravate me because I know too much about actual AI. M3GAN, for instance, was so annoying that I kept wanting to scream at the TV "That's not how it works. That's not how any of this works!" LOL. However, at least with AfrAId, they actually include legit details in how AI works so that the story is plausible and can fit into modern society so that the film can act as a cautionary tale with a message. I enjoyed it because every time I wanted to call them on bad AI ... they did something to address my nitpick. So, I actually gave it a decent review.
If you are looking for a decent thriller to watch and are curious about the premise I say check this one out. I personally enjoyed it more than Blink Twice (albeit a low bar).

There's a movie from 1984 called Electric Dreams, where a house controlling AI becomes aggressive towards its owner. Pretty decent movie as I recall, but it just goes to show really how old this concept is.
I've seen this trailer many times now at the theater. I'm like...Hey, thanks for the summary. Don't need to see it. Feel the same way about Speak No Evil.
I kind of liked this movie. yeah it was predictable, but i still got jump scares and it had me thinking fun questions and possibilties that i wanted to write out and wonder about i'm not sure i'd say this is a go out and see it. but after watching this, I'd say it's a decent rental/stream it. It was short, but i feel like there should have been more. it had me asking questions about the people doing weird motions and the screen face people. I had me wonder if maybe if they were being influenced by either earpieces where it told them to do stuff, or they had an advanced version of that Elon Musk brain chip. or as a part of this evil silicon valley it was using it's money to recruit/kidnap homeless people and use them as drones to carry out and act as it's arms and agents. I think i like it, I just wish they did something a little more with it. Or maybe have the studio do something more and clever with it in some other thriller type movies, kind of like The Purge, but maybe mix the styles and genres and stuff. but maybe keep the thriller sci-fi as the main focus. but change up the different classes and groups of people we follow for the different installments. And maybe have previous characters from the installment show up for minor stuff here and there that might've had experience in the different installments or something. 🤷♂ or maybe take stuff from however The Conjuring Franchise works or something? i don't really know. I've heard that one is kind of popular or something and has been going on a while with the installments taking place at different points in time during different points in the careers of those paranormal investigators that this franchise is loosely based on or something. 🤷♂ (I've never watched them, I've just heard this stuff about it second hand from others😅thought it sounded interesting) i guess that's it as far as the stuff i liked. 👍

I'm kind of glad that it wasn't a true horror film because I do not like horror at all but I really wanted to go out today and enjoy myself and I settled on going to a movie and unfortunately the movie theater near my house only plays a few different movies at a time and three out of the four options were labeled horror😂 the jump scares did get me though, hated it😅
There's a movie from 1984 called Electric Dreams, where a house controlling AI becomes aggressive towards its owner. Pretty decent movie as I recall, but it just goes to show really how old this concept is.
I've seen this trailer many times now at the theater. I'm like...Hey, thanks for the summary. Don't need to see it. Feel the same way about Speak No Evil.
Is "Wait For It On Streaming" the rating for this movie?
Didn't the simpsons spoof the og in treehouse of horror?
Yep, pierce brosnan was the ai.
Yes, and that was made in 2001
yes they did but better
I kind of liked this movie.
yeah it was predictable, but i still got jump scares
and it had me thinking fun questions and possibilties that i wanted to write out and wonder about
i'm not sure i'd say this is a go out and see it. but after watching this, I'd say it's a decent rental/stream it.
or maybe take stuff from however The Conjuring Franchise works or something?
i don't really know. I've heard that one is kind of popular or something and has been going on a while with the installments taking place at different points in time during different points in the careers of those paranormal investigators that this franchise is loosely based on or something. 🤷♂
(I've never watched them, I've just heard this stuff about it second hand from others😅thought it sounded interesting)
i guess that's it as far as the stuff i liked. 👍
I didn't even know this was a shorter video until you mentioned it. I just saw new video from Jeremy and clicked on it.
waiting on your Blink Twice review!
This kinda reminded me of the movie Pulse (1988). Not really a smart house but involves appliances trying to get rid of ya. All I remember is the shower scene because it traumatized me as a kid.
Wait wasn't this a Halloween Simpsons episode where the house was voiced by Pierce Brosnan?
Should Review the 1992 Film Jeremy. Ray Liotta gives a fantastic Final performance 💯💯
Mr. Jahns I recommend you watch Colossus: The Forbin Project then watch Terminator and then the Matrix
I NEED SCISSORS 61!!
Wait, so is “wait for it to come out on streaming” a new rating. Is this the first time that ratings been used?
Ghost In The Machine '93, and going a little farther back Shocker.
They ripped of Smart house! I'm offended!🤣😡
What an amazing job David Dastmalchian did playing the entire supporting cast.
I feel that the length of the review was sufficient indeed...
YOU'RE the best ;)
