This movie just always feels like the Halloween of my childhood. They just don’t make movies quite like this anymore. The nostalgia always warms my soul. Also makes me want to move to Salem 🤣
Salem is always a beautiful town, Salem on Halloween is ridonkulous in the best way. I went two different years since I lived nearby at the time, so many people walking around and so many events it was awesome!
Such a classic film. The Sandersons cast a spell on all the adults at the party to get them to keep dancing, "dance dance, dance until you die!", thats why they were so exhausted when they finally leave after the witches are defeated. Great reaction as always.
And wildly enough there have been unusual events in history where a large group of people collectively danced to their deaths in a mass hysteria I believe?
A lot of people were complaining that Emily Binx didn’t even try to fight back she just kept the witches take her soul, but the thing about it is that she was out into a trance that made her not be aware of what was happening around her. Also, there’s a funny part in that scene, right after they suck her soul…..if you look closely, as she’s dangling her head….she moves her head and fingers while “playing dead”

It follows Poppy, the daughter of Max and Allison, who accidentally summoned the Sanderson sisters back and this time they possess her parents along with Dani. Sarah Jessica Parker was said to had an ancestor named Esther Elwell, one of the women accused of being a witch during the Salem Witch Trials. After a young girl said she saw Esther’s “spectre” strangling neighbor Mary Fitch, Elwell was arrested, but escaped going to trial. If you loved Thora Birch, Dani, I recommend Monkey Trouble and Alaska; it’s about a girl and a kleptomaniac monkey. For Kathy Najimy, I recommend Sister Act and Sister Act 2 with Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith. For Bette Midler, I must recommend The First Wives Club, Big Business, Drowning Mona, and Oliver and Company. For Sarah Jessica Parker, I recommend Footloose, Mars Attack, The First Wives Club, Failure To Launch, Did Hear About The Morgans, and I Don’t Know Ho She Does It. 💚❤️💜📖👁🕯🧪🐈⬛🎃
It'd be remiss of me not to draw attention to the talents of my favorite voice actor, Jason Marsden, who did the voice of Thackery Binx, both as a cat & as a human. The actor playing Thackery as a human, Sean Murray, is actually a different person, and for whatever reason had Jason's voice dubbed over his lines. Jason's gone on to do a lot of popular Disney voice roles, such as Max Goof, Kovu in The Lion King 2, and Haku in Spirited Away. I can't help but kinda adore every role he's in, definitely a bit of a childhood crush.
this halloween movie was my whole childhood, i preferred this over the witches since i thought it was so scary whenever they took off the masks! lol. my favorite witch in hocus pocus is sarah! happy halloween!

You probably know him as Abe Sapien from Hellboy, the water creature from Sound of Water, or as Saru if you watch Star Trek: Discovery. He's one of the nicest people. They also recently made a sequel to this, and it's also heartwarming. Not quite the same, but charming.
This movie is the legit reason why I love Bette Midler so much. Also, I love Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson. He also played Abe Sapien in Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
Satan and his wife were played by the great Gary and Penny Marshall. Gary directed/created basically every childhood staple from Happy Days to Pretty Woman to The Princess Diaries. Penny Marshall, his sister, was Laverne in Laverne and Shirley and directed A League of Their Own among other classics. The best sibling duo! I’ve watched this movie over and over since it’s release and it is my childhood. The sequel is eh - cheesy but by the end it gets interesting. But the dynamics between Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimi are amazing! And Jason Marsden and Sean Murray did an excellent double act for Thackery Binx. Sean is the stepson of Donald Bellisario (show runner for JAG, NCIS, Magnum, PI, and Blacksheep Squadron) and I believe he had a hard time getting the accent right and that’s why they brought in Jason. Jason was in Boy Meets World and Step by Step and I think even Full House as well as doing a ton of voiceover work. So many faces to know and love!

If you liked this movie, you should defintely check out 'The Witches'! The earlier 1990 version is a classic but the remake is pretty good too. And another feel good witch movie that captures the Halloween spirit perfectly is the movie 'Practical Magic'. But if you want more of an adult fare of witches story - I suggest 'The Craft' or 'The Witches of Eastwick'.
@@NewfieMovieReactions i like for you give me your opinion cause there was alot of miss direction in this movie: even though its family/kid friendly not grotesque or macabre,gore obscene.. i felt sarah's talents of singing was wasted.. she lored majority of the kids to their supposed deaths(in the siren song) sara's dad,was handsome,charsmatic village idiot mary, the one holding them together with her advanced tracking abilities(she can identify sex,age,height,weight,animals..and plants.. that sounds like her father was a huntsman) winnifred, the eldest of the sisters her father had to be a preacher(she educated,but takes her only moments to figure out things.. movie never states,nor the book either say how she figured out the scene with flying on broom,chasing max/the gang in car she states "pull over,let me see your drivers permit? like..how she figured out those exact terms? they didnt encounter any real cops( the cop that dani,max and allison spotted was a guy in a costume) dani screaming "it doesnt matter how beautiful you think you are! you sold your soul! 👀 you are ugliest thing around and you know it!" that was the turning point for winnifred and he weakness,she wanted revenage over immortality from taking the souls and allowing themselves more time.. remember the black flame candle only allowed them to live,than they return once its gone or burnt out.. winnifred's pride of seeking revenge on a child,doomed her and her sisters(she only wanted dani) and there more,more children at the house lol..and they had the book too.. its not perfect.. but one children from that fold was more than enough to create more potions and time even if its shared with 3 witches.. winnifred quoted it herself "the more lives/children we take the longer we live.." but,now,that fell on deaf ears even for her 😥

I loved anything 'witches' when I was a kid so I was one of the few people who saw it in the theatre. Afterwards, my mom and I agreed it was kind of corny anyway but we still found it amusing. Then for Halloween we watched it again and the seasonal timing changed everything! We loved it and it's been a traditional watch ever since. And it was so much fun introducing it to new friends and family every year. But yeah, this movie and 'Nightmare Before Christmas' took YEARS to catch on.
My favorite Halloween movie of all time, sure hope you'll react to Hocus Pocus 2 because it's just as good as the first 😄👏🏻🎃🎥🤞🏻. The musical scene at 17:13 is my favorite part of the movie the song is so iconic 🎶🎃😈✨

There is no way WInnie should know about a drivers permit but its just one joke. The plot holds up really well and the witches are funny. I guess you were never supposed to think too much into it.
Cat guarded the house for 300 years...he never thought to I don't know, destroy the black flame candle? Take it away and hide it? Also I guess over 300 years he just learned to speak? Cause he couldn't speak to his father back then lol. It's still a great movie but a few silly spots in the writing.
I never got why Danni says to her mom, "My brother is a virgin." You're talking to your mother...why say "my brother" that's her son lol. Would you go up to your mother and refer to your sibling like that? No, you would just use their name, Dani should have said Max lit the black flame candle!
I have siblings and whenever I was telling on them for something, I would frame it that way to make it seem like I was being less of a tattle tell. I was ratting them out because of sibling concern, not to just get them in trouble.

I first saw this movie when I was like..6/7yrs old (35 now). Had nooo clue what Virgin meant for the longest time 😆 I was super sheltered
