it's really crazy that this game is already 16 years old. When you think of it, the change between games from 1992 and 2008 were extremely drastic and over time it wasn't as signifcant since then, especailly when we compare GTA San Andreas with GTA IV and GTA IV with GTA V.

I feel that at least the Dodo should've been kept in GTA IV. I think it'd be a small and slow enough plane to actually navigate through Liberty City with, and also a cool nod to GTA III with it's Dodo.
Same. In both GTA III an IV I wish they kept the Dodo as a functional flying vehicle that's something different from a helicopter but still slow enough, as you said, to fly around in an almost entirely urban map.
Wktt radio station basically being the fans just calling and saying the wildest things they could think of instead of hiring actors to do the job was an insane and awesome idea. That's why I freaking love Rockstar; they do the most unhinged and absurd things just to entertain us, and they don't care about the opinions of their critics.
I just started playing this game again and I had the same thought that this is basically a time capsule of the mid 2000s. Seeing the style, giant computers, and early cell phones was hilarious
Basing on both Hollick's and Liotta's experience with Rockstar's tendency of not paying their voice actors well enough, I think Vladimir would probably regret working with them more than not. So I say he dodged a bullet.
I remember the excitement while waiting for GTA IV to install on my brand new laptop back in christmas 2008. It seemed to take forever... Then I jumped into the game after the messy activation and boy that nvidia 8600M nearly shat itself lol... Still, even at such low details and resolution I couldn't believe how realistic everything looked and felt. I was so used on the 3D games physics that I couldn't even control Niko correctly for a few hours lol. Then a few months later I managed to get together some money and bought a used PC with a Phenom x4 9850 and Radeon HD 3870 and enjoyed the game in all it's glory. I also have a hard time realising it's been 16 years and that consoles like PS3 are nearing retro status lol. To me when I think of PS3, 360, Windows Vista or games like GTA IV, they are still new in my brain. Like they are hardcoded like that forever : P
Idk why but I get A LOT, and I really mean A LOOOT of video recomandations including GTA 4 in my youtube. I have seen so much content that I decided to play it for the third time. The physics are still impressive. And omg this game is from 2008 wtf. Rockstar should really remaster this game, it's just too amazing
Interesting note about the cars is that basically all of them are based around 90s - 00 models and not 2008. Even the Supercars. Maybe cars were finished years before the game was out.
When I was really young playing this game to bone, I would never think about how much immense trouble they would have to go through just to make everything possible. And man do I appreciate them.
When this game came out I couldn’t afford it, so I would watch my neighbor play, recently bought and played it for the first time on my own and its amazing!
Gta co op would be amazing. Like i remember discovering the co op in san andreas and it blew my child mind, it was so cool and having that be like a saints row 2 co op experience would be awesome. Im not gonna say i havent enjoyed gta online because ive had lots of fun with it, but it still doesnt fill the same hole that saints row 2 co op does, i dont wanna do a lot of the stuff again or grind for millions of dollars just to buy maybe 1 car. I remember grinding roof top rumble over and over again on the 360 because it was the only good way to get money, theres no point a to b story that you can win at, you just grind for ever. When you can play the ENTIRE saints row 2 and 3 champaign co op, and it works great. its great fun and i havent seen many games hit that same mark in a long time, i dont get why companies are so focused on MMO. Like i even think co op fallout could be something that does well, like fallout 76 is cool but it suffers the same issues gta online does in comparison to saints row 2. Uou could even say it similar to how Wo Long fallen Dynasty is compared to say the way the dark souls games does co op. Wo long is better because you can almost seamlessly play through the game co op.
I'm still hoping they revisit it one day. While a big part of me wishes they'd move to a new city/region of the states after GTA VI, I'd be very interested in a northeast coast map adaptation with two-three big cities as the focus rather than just LC.
@@LuxTheWizard San Fierro & Las Venturas in the HD universe slipped my mind. I wonder if we'll get those if we get the speculated GTA VI city expansions or we'd have to wait until a future entry. I think they could return in the form of an ambitious west coast GTA that spans both Northern & Southern Cali as well as maybe part of northern Mexico/Beja California.
I remember getting an Xbox 360 and a copy of GTA IV for Christmas when I was 12 years old. I plugged it up in the living room and started it up, to the opening cutscene…. “DADDIES BACK YOU BITCHES!!!” Needless to say my dad had me move out of the living room immediately 😂😢😢
1) Quality over quantity was so right! At the end, they didn't do the rest of that map and the 3 whole states, but they evolved and polished their capabilities in an urban environment; and with RDR they did the same with a rural environment, so in GTA V they could do both. 2) I would really love to play GTA VI in co-op. Why isn't that the same as playing it in GTA Online? Because the main story usually is pretty good and designed to guide you through the city/map in a more immersive way. The GTA Online stories are just... more gamey and usually bizarre. Another thing is that GTA missions are very linear. They have an amazing amount of guns and vehicles, and an immense map, but in the missions they just become Call of Duty. Having 2 players doing the missions, as they choose to, would probably make more use of all those tools. I think. Maybe i'm wrong.
I just realized. Only New Yorkers that grew up with this game have a real connection to it. Me growing up in the early 2000's while this game happens to be developed makes me feel our time is special. I still have this game installed on my XBSX and still play online to this day.

But I think I have to skip TLATD since it won’t work for me :(
I reckon there a possibility GTAVI will have co-op, or they’ve at least played with the idea once again. Some of the leaks suggested co-op functionality and R* tend to revisit ideas, like what if Lucia is the one and only character and Jason is basically just a character that can act as a second player. It would be a colossal feat to have a game of that scope to work with both 1-2 players, from a narrative and gameplay perspective but I feel like R* could pull it off. Given the story theme I can’t help but think of ‘it takes two’. Like I could see two campaigns that have lots of intertwined missions, naturally the character swap ability would allow you to experience both campaigns simultaneously, but should a second player join you can play with one another; most missions involve both characters however there could be occasional solo ones. Sort of like heist prep in GTAV where you receive texts about tasks that must be completed in order to play the heist, I could see a similar situation for big missions in 6, or before certain story beats. *Lucia must find and hide a getaway vehicle* *Jason must complete a job for Ryan in order for this mission to be started*
at 1:53 when you said it was the first rockstar game with ragdoll physics i just wanna say i believe it was max payne 2 but u might say that is made by remedy
I know I am late but I do want to mention something. Rockstar did a similar map thing they did in GTA 4 with GTA 5. For example, rather than having three cities across like San Andreas had, Rockstar decided to cancel that and focus on Los Santos as the only city as the reason why Rockstar chose Los Santos is because they wanted to capture Los Angeles' culture. And to make Los Santos in higher and larger detail than San Andreas.
Los Santos was the prime focus, but they still had other areas like Blaine County which was comprised of towns and areas such as Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay, and Mount Chiliad. Los Santos wasn't just a city, Rockstar made an entire county for the city to center around in.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of your GTA IV videos, idk what it is about them but they're just so interesting, anyways, I wonder what GTA IV would've been like, had they went for the larger map design. Also, I actually kinda want co-op for GTA VI now.. I feel like it could actually work really well and be really fun, although at the end of the day I doubt it would happen unfortunately, cause of GTAO and maybe other reasons.
There are the hosts and several crew members from the old Opie & Anthony radio show that are on various stations and voice a few peds and cops and a few select mission characters, this is all most likely as the whole show and several comics were really good friends with Lazlow, the same goes for Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, GTA 5 & RDR 1&2
A year or two ago I re-downloaded and played GTA 4 again, however I was dismayed to find the final mission was still glitched at the moment Niko has to pull himself into the chopper, requiring some background fiddling with my CPU to bypass this bug and allow me to complete the mission.
The multiplayer part is interesting - while I don't think it would work to build the entire game around it, i think it would actually be possible to have a splitscreen mode by combining it with character hangouts, with (potentially exclusive) missions and encounters designed around it. That way you and a friend could have experiences where maybe what's happening doesn't matter as much but could still be in character and play into the actual activities they've already made for single player. There's probably no place for something like that these days. Online Multiplayer has changed things so much.

it's really crazy that this game is already 16 years old. When you think of it, the change between games from 1992 and 2008 were extremely drastic and over time it wasn't as signifcant since then, especailly when we compare GTA San Andreas with GTA IV and GTA IV with GTA V.
It's funny how R* is being so serective on their project, which only cause opposite effect and made everyone hope their project could be leak.
Rockstar has always been secretive, and it worked. The difference is you have the internet full of entitled little dumbass kids with main character syndrome that think everything needs to be given to them.
13:25 as someone who followed IGN back in the day it's weird hearing Hilary being referred to as a woman. Much like the getaway driver in Vice City he's very much a guy
I guess, at least they have a in game reason for why Niko and Luis can fly helicopters.
Every year i do a playthrough of this game, i havent this year but im gonna play it later. Game never ever gets old
Im playing it rn long ass story
GTA4 came out 16 years ago... the same as VIce City for its release date and game era (2002-1986).... Im getting crazy.
Man...
I've been gta 4 on xbox 360 a lot lately. First time I've REALLY gotten into it. It's really fantastic and it's a blast to hang out in Liberty City 🎉
Internal codename for GTA 6 is still ProjectAmericas, but i think they use different one for casting calls.
We will go to some sort of Caribbean island during the story I guarantee it, in a similar way to guarma in rdr2.
the tech was honestly insane at the time
I just started playing this game again and I had the same thought that this is basically a time capsule of the mid 2000s. Seeing the style, giant computers, and early cell phones was hilarious
Basing on both Hollick's and Liotta's experience with Rockstar's tendency of not paying their voice actors well enough, I think Vladimir would probably regret working with them more than not. So I say he dodged a bullet.
They pay them well, those VAs just wanted more money consideriñg the scale of the games
You're one of my favorite youtuber Badger Goodger since a couple of years. Your content is just *chief kiss*. Keep it up and thank you ;) !!
Love how this came out while I'm replaying through GTA IV and it's Episodes.
I remember me and some buddies took off when in 9th grade the day this came out.
Maybe cars were finished years before the game was out.
do you remember the special bass boosted cavalcade that had special gold rims? that was my favorite
It most likely wasn't feasible to add cars that came out in 2008 since the game came out pretty early that year.
@@kirby1225wouldn't there also be legal issues with new cars?
@@gamecubeplayer No? The cars are pretty modern
@@TheSultan1470i didn't know, also can you answer my original question?
Dang, I love your voice. Very therapeutic.
When I was really young playing this game to bone, I would never think about how much immense trouble they would have to go through just to make everything possible. And man do I appreciate them.
nice - loved learning all those interesting facts - if you have more - please do share
When this game came out I couldn’t afford it, so I would watch my neighbor play, recently bought and played it for the first time on my own and its amazing!
I just hope they bring back the physics and car suspension models and destruction from 4 and implement it in 6
Gta co op would be amazing. Wo long is better because you can almost seamlessly play through the game co op.
after san andreas this was my favorite gta
5:55 i think Rockstar games would design that scrapped large New York state map with countryside & multiple cities probably in GTA 7
I'm still hoping they revisit it one day. While a big part of me wishes they'd move to a new city/region of the states after GTA VI, I'd be very interested in a northeast coast map adaptation with two-three big cities as the focus rather than just LC.
@@themadtitan7603 I suspect that 7, if it ever gets made, will return to LC but I'd really love to see San Fierro and Las Venturas in the HD Universe!
@@themadtitan7603gta 7 should be in Chicago(carcer city)
I was 17, turning 18, the year GTA 4 came out. The day before the game's release, I was so excited I couldn't sleep that night.
it was one of the last GTA games released before the death of Elizabeth II
gta 5 e&e
This is the only GTA I've replayed many times. Unlike GTA V I got quickly with that game I don't know why
I have finished GTA IV many many times, i still play this game to this day. There are things in life that can't be replaced.
This is crazy, i was just starting a new save on GTA 4 and planning to play EFLC too. It's always a good day when Badger uploads.
I just wished they didn’t cut out Snow.
It would be a true New York experience to have Snow.
9:25
Lmao, Marc Anthony! "Tell me baby girl, cause I need to know"
Take me back to 1999 pls
This game is very amazing, it introduced me to the GTA series. I had fun with it along with it's DLCs. TLAD & TBOGT are the best.
Maybe we'll get 3 states in GTA7 in the year of 2050.
the narrator's voice is fucking wild
1:42 owned drake 😭😭😭
I just realized. Only New Yorkers that grew up with this game have a real connection to it. Me growing up in the early 2000's while this game happens to be developed makes me feel our time is special. I still have this game installed on my XBSX and still play online to this day.
??🤡
I live in Pennsylvania and my best friend had lived in NYC a couple years before. When I let him play it, he'd point out the places he's actually walked around and stuff. I thought it was pretty cool to get that perspective lol
Will you be making a “10 Facts about GTA San Andreas’ Development” video later this year for that games’ 20th anniversary?
Dawg this shit finna make me cry. The good old days starting this up on my ps3. Where did the time go 😪
2012 specifically seems to be such a mark, a break in a way - coming up over and over again in my life, so I totally get your feeling there.
It's very weird how that seems so universally experienced, I realized...
I feel like the world hasn't been the same since 2012. It just feels weird.
@@headshotmaster138 Yeah, I remember the (apparently misinterpreted) Mayan calendar - and while there wasn't a meteor impact or something grand/obvious like that; it really feels like the world ended in a much more subtle way.
(or might be in a constant state of 'ending' further and further, in my experience)
@@Rainquack I completely agree bro
I think 2006 is actually it, albeit more subtle

I never thought about this, but GTA VI being Co-op is actually a really great idea. Saddly, due to leaks, we know is not going to be. Not at lauch, at least...
Just had a dream about replaying this game last night. Felt like I was in heaven. Best dream in recent years
I’ve been replaying GTAIV on PC, first time in a few years, been loving every moment! Loved the video!
I hope the modding community keeps growing so that we have more beta/cut content in the game
This game does so many things better than modern games.
even than its sequel
@@dudemp4 I would agree in some parts, disagree in others. GTA 5 is also admittedly leagues ahead of alot of other games, imo it's really one of the gold standards for open world modern sandboxes. Only thing that came close to even touching it imo is Watch Dogs 2 in terms of creating a believable and interesting world.

Just got the pc version on sale on steam and im loving it. Havent played it in like 12 years. My 2nd fav behind S.A.
I'm glad the era has arrived in which GTA IV is being analysed to this extent.
I just started to play the game for real, for the first time and man! It is amazing I love the late 2000’s vibe and the autumn feel!
I was like 11 and I loved playing this game with my father. He loves it to this day im pretty sure.
It also means that the GTA IV 15th annvesirey video came out a year ago! Time flies.
Which radio station is that voice recording from @ 9:30? Absolutely hilarious 😂
Just finished GTA 4‘s Main Story a Month ago for the first time!
What a great game.
It was the last GTA I had to play to have played every main GTA game.
Unfortunately the DLC TLATD won’t work on my PC at a Certain mission so I won’t be able to finish it.
Great Video Badger!
Wow, I wish I could play it again for the first time. I would chirp like a bird. You should pick up a PS3 for cheap and play The ballad of gay tony and The lost & the damned!
@@lesterbronson2385 I have a PS3 with GTA 4 but my Controller broke and neither my PS4 nor my PS5 Controller will work with it. 😂

But I think I have to skip TLATD since it won’t work for me :(

GTA 4 is probably my favorite GTA from the HD era, I was completely speechless as to how good the game looked at the time
theres only 2 bro it cant be that hard to pick
*Lucia must find and hide a getaway vehicle*
*Jason must complete a job for Ryan in order for this mission to be started*
at 1:53 when you said it was the first rockstar game with ragdoll physics i just wanna say i believe it was max payne 2 but u might say that is made by remedy
Yeah rockstar only published that game.
5:54 I guess this drawing explains why the gta 4 maps looks the way it does
I know I am late but I do want to mention something.
Yes it was going to be a larger map but they went quality over quantity
GTA IV is great on so many levels even today. I hope that when we get a new GTA game set in Liberty city we'll get some countryside, too.
I wanted some insights about DLCs
Oh wow, so that original GTA4 map is the game we would’ve gotten if euphoria wasn’t used at all? Interesting.
Really like videos like this one, it leaves the information covered in your past videos and information not fresh in my brain. It's a good refresher.
Listening on my 2nd monitor, not really paying attention exactly, but you sound just like Max Paynes voice actor, just younger.
