Fun fact: throughout all three pitch perfect movies if Anna Kendrick had a slightly solo singing scene (like when she sang human) it was always live
The bass was done by Brittany Snows character. If you remember the end of the first film she could do lower notes because of her nodes.

The bass in this movie and in pitch perfect 2 was actually done by Flo. You can hear the bass sounds loudly and see Flo’s mouth movements when the camera panned close to her at 0:25 timestamp in this video.

Fun fact: Anna Kendrick sang Human LIVE, that’s why you see her applying actual vocal techniques. Anytime you hear her singing alone in any of the movies, she’s doing it live!!

Chloe does the bass. If you watched the first movie, you would know she had surgery on her vocal chords to remove her vocal noduals and it made her voice change so she couldn't hit higher notes but could hit really low ones

the bass is done by ashley AND flo, u can see in 1:31 ashley is singing 'swing down sweet chariot stop and' as a bass note harmonizing with emilys higher key. and later in the film u can see ashley is covering the bass sounds for when they perform toxic

The girls were mad cuz riff-offs were supposed to be STRICTLY ACAPELLA. And they used INSTRUMENTS.

So I worked on this film, it was so fun. However, I was originally cast to be part of the military group singing “if I were a boy” but due to conflicts I had turned the role down. I didn’t realize it was the riff off scene because details are very hush hush. If I had known I would’ve moved everything. But it was still a great project to work on

@@amyrivers4093 I ended up just a fruit stand vendor that’s kind of seen in a few places. I also did a musical number with Rebel Wilson and Jon Lithgow “never gonna lift you up” but that number was cut from the final production of the movie sadly
@@andrewleeadkins93 Don't say just a fruit stand vendor every character is part of telling the story. Rebel is a natural entertainer with excellent comedic timing. I can imagine her being fun to work with.
@@amyrivers4093 ohh she was great. I was so lucky I had about a 9 hour film day with her and Jon Lithgow and it was the most phenomenal day. I got to meet and talk with the whole main cast except Anna Kendrick.
I think the base is supposed to be Chloe because she has "bummed up" vocal chords in the first film which means that she can hit the base notes xxx

Y’all, Flo is the bass in the 2nd and 3rd movie. You can see her doing the bass notes and it’s been confirmed in interviews and on the wiki page. Yes Chloe was the bass in the 1st movie after her nodes, but once the 2nd movie came and introduced Flo, she was the new bass for the Bellas.
In the first movie, Chloe had surgery to have her nodules removed, and later unlocked a lower register she didnt know she had which sounded bass-like.

So, riff offs can work, but they work best between soloists, duets, or trios -- and the duets and trios have to know a HUGE pantheon of songs and styles, and know which part each of them will sing if the other starts in. But yes, they can work. They just don't tend to work well a cappella, unless your rhythm singers (beatboxers, base lines, you know the drill) can all agree to work together and only make key transitions *within* a riff.
Like, you can transition using an "of V" modulation, like Celine Dione does in All By Myself for instance, but if another group/soloist does it, they have to really be on top of their music theory, at least at the visceral level if not at the on-paper level. But it isn't really all that hard, because most pop music uses some incredibly common chord progressions, so you really can do just about anything.
The hard part is when there's more than one singer, because then you have to be really great at coordinating with one another, know all the same songs (or, one knows them well enough to solo and the other knows them well enough to lay down wordless backup), and you have to not accidentally pick a song that will go too low or too high for you in the key chosen by the person who starts riffing first. Not impossible, but very difficult to sound good on.
Oh, and the "you must match lyrics" thing isn't as hard as it sounds. Lyrics usually use some of the most commonly spoken or sung words. If a song contains words like You, It, Baby, Sex, Girl, Love, Fine, Morning... you get the idea... you can use it, you just have to wait for your opening. Heck, I'll riff off with you any time you like, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that most of your patrons would love to do it too.
Oh, and the main chick, Becca, wasn't just vibing (though my wife and I do pretend she is just digging Chloe, because we ship that shit, we are Bechloe trash), she was beatboxing. Her mouth doesn't move much when she does it, unlike Lily who does most of the beatboxing.
My friend’s college did a Riff-Off, combining the rules from the First 2 movies( match the word, match the beat), and it went pretty well.
The first riff off from the first movie will always be superior in my opinion 😌

This is probably my favourite riff off. For context , the Bellas are an a-cappella group, voices no instruments, that is why the girls are pissed when the others start using instruments : in the a cappella world of the movie that is a big no no Love your channel Audrey. ❤
All Anna Kendrick's parts are sung live. All of the Pitch Perfect Movies we're filmed live not with a track that they are singing over. They had months of rehearsals to get it just right

This was so fun to watch. I love the Bellas’ indignation at the other bands using instruments and ‘missing the point’ of the riff off.
On another note, if you do want to listen to some country that’s more Taylor Swift than Reba (not that she’s not awesome), I’d like to recommend The McClymonts, three Aussie sisters who are my favourite ‘country’ group. They’re so good, with gorgeous harmonies. I think you’d really like them. My favourite song of theirs is When We Say It’s Forever, with Roman Keating from Boyzone, but they have some other really great ones. Favourite Boyfriend of the Year, Way Too Late, Save Yourself, Better At My Worst, Something That My Heart Does, Piece of Me, I Could Be a Cowboy and Cannonball are my favourites off their albums and are often in rotation on my playlist.

This is one of only threeish scenes that are even worth watching, honestly. Loved the first movie, really liked the second, but the third is just…bad (as evidenced by the 28% RT rating you showed). I’m surprised Anna Kendrick even let herself get talked into doing it.

Sadly I didn't like the 3rd one as much as the first two. But, it had some good scenes and songs. The plot over all was just.. kinda strange and all over the place to me.

Meh, I enjoyed it, but I know a lot of others didn't. But critics scores on rotten tomatoes are NEVER a deterrent for me because for my tastes they are often wrong. I prefer to consider the audience scores.

Two theories on the low vocals: Brittany's character can sing low notes because of "vocal nodule surgery."

I was in this film too. It was so fun to do. I was originally supposed to be in the military group that did “if I were a boy” I didn’t know at the time that was the assignment and I had some conflicts during filming so turned it down because I had already done a few other scenes, but I’m kicking myself now that I know what it was supposed to be
