I have to be honest, I’ve been training on and off for years but been really suffering will some high GI foods and it is somewhat inspiring seeing someone a similar age doing stuff I love doing and showing the path! Absolute kudos to you, keep it up 👍
I do pretty much the same as you, except for the drink. One extra thing I do is take no-salt salt, for potassium, every morning. Basically I add a little bit of it in my protein drink along with regular salt. Like magnesium, potassium is also something which most of us are deficient in.
Awesome video, thanks! I'd add that if you are on almost any kind of antidepressant, you need to avoid tryptophan, as it can have an interaction and impact the medication,.
Great video. Also In my water, I use cream de tartar for potassium with Pink salt and magnesium. At times, It goes right into my protien shake! Currently using a mens multi vitamin, D3, Vit C and b12. Feel good... honey is over and the momentum is building.
Just subscribed. Really like that you are not bought and paid for by a brand...At least that I can tell. I may be dropping the supplements I currently use and moving over to your suggestions. Thank you!
Very good video… so many folks ask me what “ all “ I’m taking and oddly we share the same regimen minus the Creatine …Lol… my sleep aid is 10-15 mg of Melatonin BUT I don’t think it’s very effective? I will try the tryptophan and hopefully that helps… part of my issue is 32 years in the Fire Service in busy stations and having my sleep interrupted. I think it created my restlessness…? I agree with the added salt to water trick … While working as a Instructor in the Fire Academy I would do that on Live Fire burn days in VA. and never suffered any dehydration issues or problems… Cheap and easy and basic science… Sodium and Water etc…. Thanks for sharing!!!
Really good info, and actually kind of surprised you don't take more, which sounds great. Never heard of your water concoction, gonna give that a go. Few questions if you don't mind. 1. If your doing a longer workout like say 90 minutes with several parts to the total workout, do you wait till the very end to drink? If there was a smoker complex or something like that, then a met on, would you do a full bottle between? 2. Caffeine? 3. I thought I heard you talk about beta alanine in another video. 4. Lastly, I didn't here you say how much vitamin D you take. Just one of those Gels? Thanks again
Good questions Pat! 1. I drink regular water and sometimes 1/2 of the sugar water bottle on longer sessions. I try to save a bunch until the end. 2. I drink coffee in the morning! 3. I have started beta alanine before workouts... not sure if I notice anything dramatic in any way. 4. Just a gel 5000IU I believe.
Just found you a day or to ago glade i did you had a talk about how to get up easyer to work out we you said like look at the clock and celebrate ect was wondering if you new wich one that was in i loved it and cant find it
Jason, how do you control the other minerals and vitamins in your body? How do you know you are getting enough Vitamin C or B12? I have always thought of the multivitamins as a buffer to make sure I am not missing anything. Granted that my base thinking is that what my body does not need will be disposed through liquid or solid form. I have not thought of the consequences of some of those minerals/ vitamins accumulating in my body. Assuming in the liver, pancreas or kidneys.
When it comes down to it... I don't know for sure if I'm getting enough of every mineral and vitamin - but I'm trying to eat a well rounded diet of meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, fruits, and some starches... from whole, unprocessed sources. As far as multivitamins as a preventative measure - I'm not convinced. And there's even research that shows no benefit - (John Hopkins Study: www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/is-there-really-any-benefit-to-multivitamins)
So i have two questions can you give the links to your brands and supplements and what is your strategy to getting better at working out in the morning you gave advice in a video and i cant find it
Yes... I just added these to the description!!!! And working out in the morning for me is tough - but You just have to set mini goals. Like. Goal 1: Get up without snoozing. Goal 2: Get into your workout clothes Goal 3: Get your warmup done... Once you've gotten through those goals/steps - you might as well go ahead and do the workout!! :-)
What do you think of a pre workout supplement? I use it for performance since my diet is always lacking due to severe diet restrictions I use a pre for exercise and a protein supplement throughout the day for meal replacement and recovery coming back from surgery and losing about 80lbs it’s really tough getting the energy to workout and even more difficult to eat lol
Honestly... I take a break between sessions. Eat some food... carbs in the form of fruit and often some protein in yogurt... and then crush the next session.
Preworkouts always boggled me. If you put a ton of nutrients into your stomach, you also promote increased blood flow to your stomach and away from muscles. Space that out, or if you must have something preworkout, low cal and volume.
l tryptophan is a forgotten one. I found melatonin made me feel funny much like the pharma sleep aids. especially on waking up. trypto is the way to go for sleep.
I left you this same comment on the other video... Thanks for commenting! Not sure why you would make that assumption or conclusion. It's all hard work and diet my friend. I do share a bit about my thoughts on PEDs and other shortcuts here: th-cam.com/video/Xzk6gk7Ey_U/w-d-xo.html
I think it can help performance a little bit! Why not! Remember the biggest moves and gains come from hard work, good food, and quality sleep. Then little things like creatine, beta alanine, and caffeine can make small improvements.
@@JasonGrubb whey isolate has less sugar and almost no carbs. Brands like muscle feast. I was just commenting on your description of a better protein. Side note, I am 48 and enjoy CrossFit as well. Coming across your channel was exactly what I was looking for. You can be older and still be a competitive athlete as well as choosing a better lifestyle. I live on Long Island but visit Denver (DTC) 6x a year. If you own a box, that would be an awesome drop in trip for me. Keep up the great job you do. Thanks
I just want to take the time to appreciate that you replied to everyone's comments. Respect!
I do love this stuff… and I’m still a small enough channel that I can.
I’m 50 years old and have been on the fence about doing CrossFit, but you have inspired me.
Find a good gym. Take it slow.
I am 51 and after a 5 year break from crossfit, I have been back for about 6 weeks. I am taking it slow and focusing on mobility.
As a 42 year old male, your videos are spot on for me...thanks!
Glad to hear it!

Awesome addition Paul!! Keep the momentum going!!
Which greens do you drink?
None at this point.
Is there anything you would recommend pre work food wise? I tend to workout after a 12hr day as a teacher. Thanks so much!
Banana. Apple. Apple sauce. Any kind of fruit would be good.

You're welcome!!!! And yes... L-tryptophan has been good. For me, Melatonin didn't do anything to help with sleep.

I’m actually doing an updated supplements video tonight! However, I put all those ingredients in around 20 ozs (a shaker bottle).
@@JasonGrubb I shall await the video!! Kind regards from the UK 😃👍🏼
Hey Jason, did you try to exchange sugar for honey in your rehydration drink? Thanks
No - but that would probably be good too!!!
Is there a link to those supplements so i can find th thanks
I'm about to do an updated 2022 supplement video that will have links!
