Josh is a smart man. Great showing here. As a natural athlete I feel like my cheat code is ice baths, good nutrition, sleep etc. Couldn’t imagine the benefits of pairing that with some gear.
Absolutely fantastic conversation fellas, strongly agree with Josh’s points and mindset being a 40yo with a daughter aiming for the skies in martial arts. I wish more people could look past the “tall poppy syndrome” and really get into being ambitious and shooting for the moon. Well done guys, hope to see more conversations like this in the future.
@thegrapplersperspective Trying isn't doing, and it's not possible to make anyone happy. They have to choose. I'm not saying this in a negative way, but it's true.
obviously his coach thought him worthy which is why he got a blackbelt. the only thing that happens with "quick" progression to higher ranks, there seems to be a lack of proper understanding. sure, get your blackbelt in a short amount of time, hats off to the skillset you've gotten, but when the tricky questions come from students and there isnt a solid explanation of why or what because "i just do it this way" is the explanation doesn't cut it
BJJ black belt because you're big and athletic and the talent level at heavyweight is trash. Plus, instructors are more inclined to belt bigger guys faster because they don't want to bruise their egos when you tap them with your size and strength because SIZE and ATHLETICISM MATTERS. This is why Gordon reigns supreme because his technical level is ahead of all you gorillas.
Comparing everyone to the GOAT is such a moot point. It’s like if your not as good as Gordon and in his division that’s means your rubbish, it doesn’t work like that in any other sport! It’s like saying every other winger isn’t good at football because Messi was better 🤷♀️
@@thegrapplersperspective I'm talking about the talent gap between Gordon and the rest of the heavyweights is so huge, it's laughable-- Only Nicky Rod poses "somewhat of a threat" but he's only been training for 5 years too! That's just another indictment how weak the heavyweight division is. Take a look at the rest of the divisions, anyone can win at every given moment. The technical level displayed in the lower weight classes shows and everyone knows it. I've seen Saunders roll, he's smart and very tactical, but carries an advantage because he has a superior athleticism over the equally average skilled slow heavyweight but put him in a 150 pound body and he would be average in the lightweight division as far as technique goes..

Sometimes the best grapplers are also the most annoying people in the world. Josh is one of those grapplers.
He ain't no Mikey, bro.
Unfair, I think Josh talks a lot of sense and he just goes after what he wants
You can't make anyone happy though and that's a fact.
You can try

That’s a fair point, however it does depend on someone’s study and May time
Buy a bunch of rapr and wear a dolphin rash guard mate. Pump the bags
Thanks for the advice @masterteep
