Sam Crook is Head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Coach at Flo Martial Arts in Plymouth, UK and a 1st Degree Black Belt under Marco Canha (Fightzone / Checkmat). He was the Head BJJ Coach at the Francis Ngannou (Former UFC Heavyweight World Champion) Foundation in Cameroon from 2019-2023, where he was bringing BJJ to underprivileged children and first met his now adopted son, Franck.
Sam and Franck have been incredibly successful and prolific BJJ competitors in the UK since their return to the UK, before Sam suffered his horrific injury in January. Sam's battle to support Franck and keep him in the UK is still ongoing at the time of this release.

It’s nice to see some of these grapplers reflect on their experiences. I’ve been saying this for years judo is your base, train it young, train wrestling with some judo at 13 to 18 - might get a scholarship. Bjj is just cherries you can train it anytime in your martial art career after your an adult. If you walk into a BJJ gym with 10y experience in judo and wrestling you are going to make blue belt pretty quickly, or your gonna make a lot of whit belts quit, and no gym owner wants that.

By definition adcc is not treating the athletes correctly if the top prize winner gets 10,000 and they pay 2 million for an arena, and they pay the bongo drum players more than 10k. I like xande, but that makes no sense. They don't pay the athletes enough, they insult the athletes with the amount they pay them, the athletes put their lives on the line and most of them make no money. Craig Jones is basically right and I don't mind if he makes adcc suffer. ADCC will become better based on the CJI's competition. Xande is an established bjj icon, so he has forgotten what it is like for the young bjj star who can beat everybody but has to deliver pizzas to keep a roof over his head.

My old ass hasn't banged a comment section up like this in a long time. When Malachi said it doesn't have to be dynamic, it just needs to be efficient. I almost jumped up because at 53, starting my BJJ at 26(12 years GM Ricardo Murgel as uke, now Rodrigo Artiheiro), with efficiency comes dynamism. Lot of people would call it old age and treachery though.❤😂🎉

To the host, first of all thank you for this podcast. It's probably the best Jiu-Jitsu podcast I've watched and I don't know how long. Malachi is a beast,. I'm 53 I started Jiu-Jitsu at 26. Whoever told you your body defenerates needs to be choked. I've just come through, and I'm coming through a little bit, stage 4 cancer. My body has basically gotten a reboot, thanks to nutrition, a heck of a support group, and jiu jitsu. Not only am I recovering faster than average by far, according to my doctor; my body is regenerating. I'm also an Army infantry veteran, I'm as good a shape now as I was as a mid-twenties army infantryman. I've never stopped eating right, or stretching or moving. This is no flex on my part. It's just simple and what has worked. Anyone can do it, I'm a nobody that's just been loving martial arts since 1980 in total. You're not going to degenerate, man. You're going to regenerate.

But I realized that the grapplers ("workers") need to do a strike, disrupt the business of ADCC ("of the capitalists") to squeeze out major beneficial concessions. #1 this is business, nobody owes nobody. #2, how are athletes ever gonna really get paid without something like this. Alot of fighters will make nothing but will dedicate their whole lives to training. The fact a hot dog eating champ can make more than an ADCC champ is bad. What Craig is doing is possibly changing the future of the sport for the athletes for the better. ADCC will die possibly if they dont start really paying their athletes. These guys are the best in the world, a medal is great but wont help you in the real world when you need to take care of your family.
