I've owned a 4.2 S1 FHC for 22 years. Just wonderful. The 4.2's came with that better gearbox and seats. Hammond's has an early car, but not a flat floor.
Hi Richard . Yours is more original . This is imported in from the States and refurbished here . Personally , l think £300,000 is pretty excessive . And he's probably paid to like it ! .....lf someone lent me their "as new" for a weekend l'd like it too !
All E-types from '64 - '75 used that same all synchro gearbox - also the XJ6 etc. The 3 synchro Moss box was on the 3.8's The reverse gate spring needs adjustment on that one.
we had these long distance jaguar buses thisside of theworld and they had that sound coming from the drive train... and in the bus it was like surround-sound... as a youth i remember being taken in bythat sound ..
Did you know that the early moss box was 3.8 and the one your driving is a 4.2 with the all synchro box . The 4.2 was renown for driving very smoothly .
At 3:45, Mike puts on a seatbelt with a shoulder strap in a Series I. I didn't expect that but I'm glad to see it. Is Jaguar a source of shoulder belts for cars that they don't restore?
I had a ‘68 series 1 with a shoulder belt. No inertia reel, just static. The adjustment was via the floor mounted buckle as in an aeroplane. Shame he gets so confused about the all synchro box!
Sorry, fhe guy isn't not bad reporting or unsympathetic but DO YOUR HOMEWORK! 4.2 E-Types always had FULL synchronized gear boxes (if not 2+2 with auto) and even the 3.8 had a second to forth synchronized, but that did not work very well...
The Moss box was only installed is early cars. I have a series 2, and the original, all synchro box is as sweet as a nut. My car is neither lethargic or lumpy because the engine has been set up correctly
Totally agree with you, my 63 3.8 was always as smooth as silk . Some uneducated people haven’t got there facts correct. My car evidently sold to Eagle E types the owner was over the moon with it .
Too be honest I'd still watch the video if it was 25 minutes long tho that e type was one of the best sounds and just so nice to look at even the engine like so shiny and nice looking I wish normal cars had this much detail and effort to make them look nicer maybe not quite like this e type they'd never make a profit bit instead of covering the engine with plastic make them nicer or like something even if not everyones going to do the work themselves on the car
That thing sounds fantastic! If you have received a friend request on Facebook from a 30 something female its because I went to message you the other day and didn't realise my other half was logged in on the Mac lol. I dropped you a message about the ST200 ... it was good to see it in the workshop in the video the other day! Pick up your message and drop me a line :-) Another cracking video btw!! Regards Dan
I hate people who think they know E TYPES and talk all about them, they talk someone into letting them drive a new one or a series 1 car, they try to pass themselves off as experts . . . but its all BULL SH.T !
Yes great until the end when the sheep in masks showed up. Standing outside in the sun wearing masks when there is not even a law enforcing this. Imagine what the men and women who built this car would think of this insanity...15 years after WWII.
Firstly the original Moss gearbox does have synchromesh into 2nd gear! Do your homework, It is first and reverse gear that are un synchronised! I should know! Redline MTF really helps these Moss boxes shift better and Moss boxes are bomb proof, Also that E-Type has concerning low oil pressure, It's running 30 psi at high RPM and you are booting the crap out of it! At those revs a rebuilt 4.2 should be pushing out approx 50+ psi.
i am starting to get why people go berserk over car sound - this is not car noise. cool angle on the in-car vid - seeing both the driver side window, and the rear windscreen gives a clear indication of car speed. [vuh-room]
JLR Classic are farming the majority of the work out but you still pay JLR prices. You guys are so easily swade by a pay check or putting up click bait to get the views. I own an 66 OTS not just borrowed for the day to say nice things about the company what a load of BS. Cheers Dave
Dave I agree, how about more credit to the incredible people that designed and built these cars, the engineering, aerodynamics and history instead of the E-Type instead of these overpriced restos.

Drove an identical car from Dorchester to Essen a few years back. Great car, such fun to drive and drew small crowds whenever I stopped.
Looks an original, well-sorted car to me. Glad you liked it.

Beautiful car, still looks fantastic and this one seems to drive fantastically as well.

My favourite colour for an E-Type.
Aston also used that colour with great results on the DB6 and DBS S1.
Cheers
The gearbox in a 65 4.2 was always a full sync it was the 3.8 had the moss box no sync in first
Truly amazing. A rare taste of an icon of years past in like new condition.
My vocabulary shrank to the word 'wow' so many times during this vid.
Thanks for sharing that with u’s 👍
Sento il motore che è perfetto, grande Jaguar!!

All agreed. Nowadays any freshly built XK engine should be holding higher oil pressure than this. Strange !
I have a 67 and the gearbox is fine you must have been in a bad one mate!

Whats the new colour called?
❤️🔥
Who refurbishes these vehicles?
Do you really have a Mondeo?
Woot
No wing mirrors?
Actually, you can get by without them. The all-round visibility is pretty good if you don't mind turning your head a bit.
Thank Jesus
Anytime Mike goes near a Jag, should the vid be called Mike has a Moment?

Richard, Did you see my question on your last video the hole behind the driver what is it for ? Cheers Dave
I thought series ones were 3.8? Headlamps are enclosed on 1 and 1a.
The 4.2 was offered later in the series one's life, I think about 1965 or so.
I had to stop watching when he would not shut up about the gearbox. It's a 4.2. The Moss box is in the 3.8. Sheesh
