I do think there needs to be regulation of independent dispatchers, such as mandatory liability insurance; Unfortunately, dispatching has become the new "get rich quick with no experience" scam; Many offering these courses even refer to it as a "side hustle"; I personally find this offensive as it only greatly cheapens and minimizes what is a vital role in the transportation industry. I am a retired driver of almost 20 years OTR (O/O, Lease Operator and company driver for a few mega-carriers) and there is NO way that any quick online dispatching course can teach what we learn from actual experience and years on the road.

We agree across the board. Whether it's brokerage or dispatching, you need more education than an online course. It's one of the reason's we offer so much ongoing training.

DUDE !!! why does everyone think that going to the FEDS to ,make more regs will do the industry any good? KEEP THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF PRIVATE BUSINESS , PERIOD !!! Also, ALL these stupid carriers blaming brokers on thier financial failures is not the brokers fault. Carriers then go cry to the FEDS and what happens then? Is the FEDS who will put more regs on everyone and even the cry baby carriers. Do not rat .

What if I worked for a shipper, in the warehouse. Would it be more beneficial for me to become a broker? That way, I can reach out to the dispatch supervisor at my job, and brokerage loads from my job to my drivers. I'm thinking that would be a good sales pitch I could use to brand myself as a dispatcher as well.

Kudos on the creative thinking. The issue is that both jobs are full time and it would be a conflict of interest.

My dad and 2 brothers are shortly to become owner operators. Which would you recommend me to practice ? Broker or freight dispatcher ? Can i do both?

What is your goal? Are you looking to start your own business or just help your brothers?

What if you become an owner operator, can you still interact as broker, does it affect surety bond?

You could theoretically do both. But from a practical standpoint, brokering and driving are both full time jobs.

Can you dispatch yourself as an owner operator?

owner ops are their own dispatchers unless they hire one.
