    Seriously thank you. I love the to see new old school tricks and hacks. I worked for an old timer as a kid he had literally at least 4 of everything and he would fabricate all kinds of stuff. His contingencies had contingencies. He told me to buy at least one tool a week until I had the basics. Then once every few weeks for the more expensive equipment. Now I have a similar collection. I’m very grateful for that experience. Thanks for the nostalgia and knowledge.

    Mine has the same issue. Instead of grease, I pulled the cord out of the pulley a bit and added an extra revolution of tension on the clock spring. The extra tension keeps the pawls quiet. In addition, I re-clocked the starter to pull from the side of the machine. And a little blue loctite on the studs is cheap insurance.

      My pull is to the side as well. So much better.

    I’m sure if maybe u put a plastic washer on that reversed screw or help out to..
    ebb just snug n up that screw would take out the clik Clak clik… Still nice fix sir

    • @EdenLawnServices
      @EdenLawnServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. If you snug it up the screw the pawls with have a hard time deploying and retracting. Believe me, I have tried everything. A dab of grease and it works perfectly!!!

    this helped me fix my pull start, i ordered a new one it ended up being one of those pawls was stuck out and wasn’t going back in after, i was able to undo it and reset it and it’s fixed! saved me 25$

    Mercy I've been listening to that ridiculous noise three years. I thought the pawls are wearing from brushing against the fly wheel while it runs. I thought that was the problem and that the noise would finally stop when the pawls had worn enough. Nope. I will use this solution and my nerves can finally rest. I can't believe such an expensive mower would leave the factory with this nonsense. Thanks

    • @EdenLawnServices
      @EdenLawnServices  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom, it’s a easy fix. Depending on how much you use the mower, it will need to be done again in the future. But it works!!!

      Just shave 1/8 of an inch off the end of each arm. There’s no adverse effects to starting, and you don’t have to continually service the fix. Did mine at 50 hours, and still no noise at 200

    I have the 21199(no elec) model. My recoil assy spring went limp and wont recoil. Any ideas without making the spring fly out?

    • @EdenLawnServices
      @EdenLawnServices  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spring has “slots” each end fit into. If I was to guess, the spring came out of one of the slots and will need rewind.

    Very cool video. Love stuff like this. I had a rattle on the flywheel area on a Kawasaki engine at low rpm and shutdown. Similar fix, but it wasn't the paws rattling, rather the grass screen slots that engage the flywheel, wearing to the point that it rattled on acceleration and deceleration. Took it off, hammer the screen notches in a few areas to tighten up the gaps, and put it back together. Fixed!

    Holly crap Doug, I never thought about trying that. Both my TM's do the same thing. They all end up doing it. I will try some lube on it then! Great video!

    • @EdenLawnServices
      @EdenLawnServices  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For all things good in this world, do not spray a lube on them, they will click even more. Use grease!!! It stops them from bouncing around and making noise. Thanks for the view Mike!!!

      Hey, permanent fix here, just shave off the end of the arms and they will never make another noise. I’m using this mower commercially and after about the 50 hour mark I did the fix, now at about 200 it still does not make a noise.

    Thanks for the tip. My 21 inch makes that noise but it’s not all the time.

    Thanks for the video! I have a Timemaster with the same issue. I will try some heavy grease. Driving me nuts.

    The real old school way? Discard the recoil assembly altogether and wind a few turns of starter cord directly around the metal pulley. (it hardly ever catches the cord and rips your fingers off when the engine starts - mostly). I have dim and grim memories of an old outboard engine that started exactly that way. Not that I'm old or anything...

    • @EdenLawnServices
      @EdenLawnServices  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol. I’m old as well. I remember a rototiller that had that setup. Get it started and loop pull rope over handle.
