This is a great video Shannon. Beautiful work, I love your no makeup makeup. I love seeing other artists using, actively USING The Flesh Tone Color Wheel™!! That is what it is all about.
Hi Shannon, I'm a new viewer and I love how you talk about makeup! I actually got the Flesh Tone Color Week this week, but I'm having trouble using it on myself, lol. I was wondering if you'd be able to explain how to use the color wheel on different skin tones a little further (I'm South Asian). Or how to use the color wheel to find flattering blush/lip colors. I totally understand how difficult that may be though, so no worries if you can't! Anyways, you have a lovely channel and I look forward to watching more videos! 💖

Thanks for watching Shawna, great question! Using color theory for a no makeup makeup look will give you more of a natural "real-like" skin finish. We have so many different colors on our face and sometimes when we use one foundation color to neutralize everything... it can look too heavy and flat! It's not as practical for a consumer, but for a make-up artist it helps because we can use one palette on many different skin tones/skin conditions.
Hey Liz! I do use it in my daily makeup. I have a personal palette, most of the time I just use it under my eyes and a tinted moisturizer everywhere else, to save time haha! But I’ve never had a problem with it breaking me or my clients out!!
Hi! I’m a makeup artist based out of Boston, MA. I love your channel, thanks for sharing all these tips! I noticed in this video you didn’t mention anything about skin prep. What are your suggestions for that?Would you treat it similarly to any other makeup client (bridal/special event) or do you have any tips specific to working with talent on set? Thanks!
I do really like how the foundation palettes come with so much range now I don’t have to color correct as often but this is awesome , I just carry all the graftobian palettes and tones
Hello I’m from Hong Kong , really love your video just wonder if I use this palette for foundation step can I go with loose powder and more step with other items from the other brand?
This was a very insightful video for someone like me who wants to slowly get into professional makeup artistry. Can I ask though, as I have worked on film as an actor, how to set the face properly so as to not make it run under the hot lights? It was always something I wasn't sure how to deal with and your video doesn't have you set your face with any kind of powder. Thanks for the video either way and I cannot WAIT to apply it in real life!
Hey Angie! Thanks for the question - it really depends on the person/situation! I like to use the Laura Mercier powder on a puff and press it into the skin and then as far as keeping it matte, I’ll use a combination of blotting papers, puffs and every once and a while a mattifying gel! The black opal powders are also really good! 😊 hope that helps!! Keep me posted if you have any other questions!
I would love to se you do a client with dark spots , that way I can see the use of the Color wheel on a problematic skin . Thanks for this video I really appreciate the Color wheel tips☺️
LOVE THIS. I love the color theory part. I love working with color so this was interesting. I personally don't do much for my makeup unless I'm really feeling like it or I'm going out, but regardless this was fascinating and you explained it and executed it beautifully. thank you
MakeupByShannonMarie The application and the mixing reminds me of acrylic paints. With that I mean that you have precise control of how the colour will turn out. I have the PP.01 and PP.08 and it‘s a joy!
@@FrozenberryCupcake how are you getting on with your palettes? Are they easy to use and do you quickly get the hang of it? Do you like the end result? Does it look natural?
@@rachelel9087 I needed some time until I was confident in my colour matching abilities. They are pretty easy to use and I freaking love the results. There is a reason why tthey use those palettes in tv and film productions. You can achieve some really natural looks with those palettes. I love them
Hi Shannon loved this video! Love all your lessons on colour theory. A little does go a long way - your face looked so fresh. Thank you sweet girl xxoo
I am SO thankful for this video. I watch it multiple times and always learn something haha it's crazy! I have a question, does the fard creme sets itself? Can you compare it with the sian richards? Thanks!
Yay!! Thanks so much for watching 😊😊 Sometimes I’ll set it with a little translucent powder if the client is oily! Great question, I've actually been getting this question a lot, I think I'll make a separate video about them showing the difference :) Really the only thing that they have in common are the colors, haha! I love them both, but use them for different reasons. Once you feel the two side by side, you immediately see/feel the difference! MaqPro - medium coverage (but covers everything with color correction :D) needs to be lightly worked into the skin I love this for concealer under the eyes, no makeup/makeup looks/natural makeup Sian Richards - full coverage (40% pigment) glides on sets quickly, but can be used dry, with a fluffy brush or activated with moisturizer. I love this for any and all :) if I use it for foundation, I'll usually mix it with Le MaqPro LIQUID foundation and it's AMAZING.. I'll use it for pimples, or any long film day, tattoo cover etc. (12+ hours)
@@MakeupByShannonMarie thank you sooo much this was so helpful! I'll work my butt off because id love to have the sian richards one one day! Thank you!!
Hi I’m grace, from Melbourne Australia. Just came across your channel. It’s so helpful. I’m starting out as a freelance makeup artist so any tips I can come across will be fantastic. The one on foundation Palettes was really good. 🤗
Hey! Thanks so much for the comment Cintia! 😊 You can definitely get a “no makeup” look with the SRL palettes if you sheer out the product or use it when it’s dried down on the palette. That’s a great tutorial idea, I’m going to add it to my list of things to film! 😊
Omg, great video!! I’ve been looking for makeup like that for so long! You look great, healthy and naturally beauty (which you ready are, with or without make up). Do you recommend any other brand or product? Lemaq is not easily found where I leave :( would you advise that kind of make up (cream) for someone with oily skin? It’s not that oily though. Just a little
Hey Beatriz! Thanks for the comment. You can definitely use a cream foundation on someone with oily skin, just make sure to lock it in with some powder and apply in thin layers! Hmmm, Ben Nye has some great corrector palettes too! Is that available where you live?
this is the exact makeup look i’ve been searching for for years, whatever makeup they do for those netflix teen dramas set somewhere in the midwest where all the girls wear tumblrfied 90s fashion, i love it so much. my problem is that i have huge dark spots on my chin and lots of redness on my cheeks and around my nose so its hard to look natural because i have to pack on concealer so im gonna have to buy a huge concealer and corrector palette, something cheap though like from coastal scents. rn im broke so imma have to improvise by just lightly buffing some sheered out foundation and concealer on my problem areas
Love your videos. I'm a makeup artist in Redondo Beach. You don't have to set the fard creme in any way? Would you ever need a mixing medium, if so what would you use? Thanks.
That's awesome!! Thanks so much for the comment, I will sometimes set it with a little translucent powder on hot spots if the actor is oily. I know MaqPro does make a product called Maqpro Makeup Mixer but I've never tried it! I usually just sheer it out on my palette and apply in thin layers :)
Hi, I loved this video! I have just bought a tiny set of wax Maqpro makeup and also have the makeup mixer. Do you always use that when you use this makeup as foundation? It seems dry otherwise and I’m not sure how far I would get in getting it to flow smoothly over my face?
Hi! This was INCREDIBLY helpful. Apologies in advance because this will be long. So I have problematic skin (acne from medication I must take that also makes me very red, and regular acne), I honestly don't know my skin type because it used to be very oily, but ever since the lockdown it seems to be doing it's own thing (age? I dunno, I just turned 32). I was looking into buying a green color to cover my redness/acne and then a...yellow? salmon? color to cover my dark circles under my eyes. However, after looking at the price, I realised for good quality, non-creasing makeup, it's practically cheaper just to buy the petite PP01 (I'm very fair and cool undertoned) and the MAQpro Corrector/Lip/Cheek Petite Palette AI1 because then that'd allow me to use any color corrector without having to buy an entirely new one, solve my foundation matching issues, and I'd also get the bonus of cream blushes and lips. I can't tell if I'm getting in over my head. I studied graphic design so I know colour theory. I have made my own powder foundation from iron oxides, so I already understand that concept of mixing red/blue/yellow/white. Do you think this will help me achieve a natural everyday look that will most importantly hide all of my acne and look natural? I don't want it to look caked on which seems to happen with all the foundations I've tried, even only applying the smallest amount and really pressing it into the skin. I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed because I'm realising I'll need sponges and a spatula (and whatever else comes with using these creams?). However, if this will save me time and money in the long run, it seems like the cheaper option. Thank you for reading my essay in advance! There's really no TH-cam videos of people using these types of palettes so it was so nice to see it in action!!
Hi im here again. 😊 I just want to ask for your take on henry cavill's superman makeup. His complexion was really nice and flawless in his close up's in the movie. If u could pls do a video on how u would do that if u were his makeup artist. Plss. 😊🙏🙏🙏
there was a soft dewy or shimmery eye shadow look on black swan. not the feathers, i mean when she is nina sayers. there is a soft glow to her lids and i have been trying to find that secret ever since. i tried mists, gloss, vaseline and i can’t get the right effect.
How did I just find your channel? You have such amazing videos and I love the concept of doing a lot with the tiniest amount of makeup. Although, "makeup" is too less of a word for what you do, this is rather "the art of painting people" because you're literally like an oil painter with your multiple colour palettes. Would like to see more videos of natural-looking no-makeup makeup. I was always curious how they do the makeup in period dramas because it looks so flawless and you literally can't detect any product even in closeup shots. There's a bunch of videos of no-makeup makeup tutorials out there, and they all actually use tons of makeup and by the end they don't even look like themselves anymore :)).
Hahahaha, it’s a super weird texture. It’ll like whip up for a minute but then when it sets, it’s on. You need so little for it to be effective. I get a pretty great wear with it. Especially when using the color correction method 😊 also super great/handy for fast touch ups!
Hey!! Great question, I've actually been getting this question a lot, I think I'll make a separate video about them showing the difference :) Really the only thing that they have in common are the colors, haha! I could really use some products suggestions for beginners. Don't wanna spend too much money right at the start you know. Just wanna try it as a hobby. Anyone here knows good, cheaper products that are available in Germany? Something you can wear outside for a day and that works well with water based skincare? I cannot not wear sunscreen underneath 😂
Hi Shannon I need your expertise help? do you say this palette is more natural looking on the skin or better quality than the mufe color flash palette. I am currently rebuilding my kit and looking for the best out there! ;) however, this look looks amazing on your skin, BEST no makeup look iv'e seen by far hands down!
Hey Rosie! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words!! 🤗 Hmm good question! They’re pretty different. The MUFE flash palette is really good if you do editorial, fashion, theatrical makeup and want to use those super bright colors because the product is suuuuuuper creamy and easy to blend/super pigmented. You can definitely make foundations with it too but it’s a little on the slippery side? Does that make sense? It’s like one little dab of it and your entire hand is covered. The Maq Pro is a drier formula and you can create those editorial/character looks with it too, but you might have to mix it with something to help the bright colors glide further. Both are great and either one would help strengthen your color theory skills and be a good ‘in case of emergency’ palette for your kit! What kind of work do you do? How are you picturing yourself using the palette? That might help me narrow it down for you 😊
Bridal, soft glams, and full glam! a pop of color here and there nothing crazy. I think I will go with maqpro, what are your favorite must haves? I know there’s a blush palette, rescue palette, any other suggestions. I am working with makeup atelier foundation, Graftobian Cream foundation that’s all I have so far! Pls make more informative videos you’re amazing and you’re my new go to. Thank you so much!!
It's funny cause I thought the right side was with makeup because the left looks more natural, haven't seen real people in sooo long, I've been binging on shows haha, you did a splendid job!
I went without eye makeup for the first time in 16 years and never felt more stunning. Trick is to use eyelash curler, concealer, powder and highlighter smarter and focus more on the rest of the face like with lipstick, blush and brows.
Hey Theo - it depends on skin type and amount of product applied, but I find it's not always necessary! Once the fard cream settles on the skin it's got a natural-matte finish. I actually like a little natural glow on the skin, so I usually don't powder too much in general, but it does fine once powdered too!
@@MakeupByShannonMarie thanks a lot. Uhhhmm one more thing that makes me a bit confused about the chart. About the pink tone. It belongs to the upper half of the chart which are warm tones. I thought pink is a cool tone like many beauty gurus said. They said yellowish tones are warm and pinkish tone are cool. Pls enlighten me. Thank you in advance and godbless. 😊😊😊
Great question! Terri Tomlinson had a great response when it came up in a Facebook group a couple months back - let me grab the quote from her. “A traditional color wheel has red as warm. The bottom half of the wheel is warm while the top half is cool. So red around to yellow/green is warm and green around to red-violet is cool. I think that this is a good basic start. However when you start looking at skin, I believe that warm runs red to yellow and cool runs from blue out to red and to yellow. But a cool yellow and a cool red are so different! So I like to think of all tones moving warm or cool, so they are fluid.” Check out her FB group The Flesh Tone Color Wheel, it’s such an amazing resource!!

I do really like how the foundation palettes come with so much range now I don’t have to color correct as often but this is awesome , I just carry all the graftobian palettes and tones
THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR 😭💕
Hello I’m from Hong Kong , really love your video just wonder if I use this palette for foundation step can I go with loose powder and more step with other items from the other brand?
Wow
You are gorgeous ❤️❤️
Awe, thanks, Naila!! That's so sweet, thanks for making me smile!!
This was so interesting - thank you 🥰
Hey Im a makeup artist from Paris France and I've just finished the David Fincher film here in Paris.
I absolutely LOVEEE your channel!!
I would love to se you do a client with dark spots , that way I can see the use of the Color wheel on a problematic skin . Thanks for this video I really appreciate the Color wheel tips☺️
Wow this is amazing!!! thank you i want to work in film industry, but im in México, how can I learn from you??? Thanks!
Thanks! We’re shooting a music video, using as few people as possible (pandemic), and makeup is needed. This is so helpful. Thank you!
LOVE THIS. I love the color theory part. I love working with color so this was interesting. I personally don't do much for my makeup unless I'm really feeling like it or I'm going out, but regardless this was fascinating and you explained it and executed it beautifully. thank you
Major Bob Ross vibes! Thank you!
Amazing very beautiful! Thanks! 💖
This is so cool!!
Thanks so much Isabella!!
I love it you are incredible.Top!!Bin yourself make up artist and that's exactly mine. I learn even more from you❤❤
Because of you I bought the maqpro fard creme palette and its amazing! I love it!
Yay!!! I'm so obsessed with those palettes, that's awesome!!
Thanks!
Yay!! Thanks so much for watching 😊😊
Sometimes I’ll set it with a little translucent powder if the client is oily! Great question, I've actually been getting this question a lot, I think I'll make a separate video about them showing the difference :) Really the only thing that they have in common are the colors, haha! I love them both, but use them for different reasons. Once you feel the two side by side, you immediately see/feel the difference!
MaqPro -
medium coverage (but covers everything with color correction :D)
needs to be lightly worked into the skin
I love this for concealer under the eyes, no makeup/makeup looks/natural makeup
Sian Richards -
full coverage (40% pigment)
glides on
sets quickly, but can be used dry, with a fluffy brush or activated with moisturizer.
Thank you!!
Amazing!! Thank you ❤️
Very helpful
Hi I’m grace, from Melbourne Australia. Just came across your channel. It’s so helpful. I’m starting out as a freelance makeup artist so any tips I can come across will be fantastic. The one on foundation Palettes was really good. 🤗
Hey Grace!! So nice to meet you!! Thanks so much for watching, oh yay, glad it was helpful :)
So helpful thank you!
What produce you use ? Thanksssss❤❤❤
Loved this video Shannon. I have the color wheel and I just can't wait for Terri to visit London this year for an in-person class. 😃
Thanks so much for watching, Sneha! That's awesome, yay, I definitely had lots of OMG moments in her class, you're going to love it too!!
Great video! Thank you :)
Wow I love it! Is it possible to recreate this look with the Sian Richards palettes? Can you get a "no makeup" effect with those?
Hey! Thanks so much for the comment Cintia! 😊 You can definitely get a “no makeup” look with the SRL palettes if you sheer out the product or use it when it’s dried down on the palette. That’s a great tutorial idea, I’m going to add it to my list of things to film! 😊
@@MakeupByShannonMarie Great! Would you to see that video!
You don’t use powder for this look? Btw very nice video, help me so much
Hello, i love your video! Did you need to seal makeup?
MakeupByShannonMarie yes!!!! Thank you so munch 😘😘
CAN YOU DEMONSTRATE ON SOMEONE WITH DARK SKIN? If you have already thanks!
this is the exact makeup look i’ve been searching for for years, whatever makeup they do for those netflix teen dramas set somewhere in the midwest where all the girls wear tumblrfied 90s fashion, i love it so much. my problem is that i have huge dark spots on my chin and lots of redness on my cheeks and around my nose so its hard to look natural because i have to pack on concealer so im gonna have to buy a huge concealer and corrector palette, something cheap though like from coastal scents. rn im broke so imma have to improvise by just lightly buffing some sheered out foundation and concealer on my problem areas
I have small lines nothing will cover under my eyes. I can't find a cream will stay moisture zed.
What pallets would you recommend I buy of the Fard crème. We have similar skin tones and color.
what would be the best base for la maqpro? would you moisturize and prime as usual?
I can't find where to buy the pallet or the wheel
Doesn’t seem like the MA13 palette is available anywhere :( any recommendations for another blush palette?
Love your videos. I'm a makeup artist in Redondo Beach. You don't have to set the fard creme in any way? Would you ever need a mixing medium, if so what would you use? Thanks.
That's awesome!! Thanks so much for the comment, I will sometimes set it with a little translucent powder on hot spots if the actor is oily. I know MaqPro does make a product called Maqpro Makeup Mixer but I've never tried it! I usually just sheer it out on my palette and apply in thin layers :)
Thanks so much @@MakeupByShannonMarie
Hi, I loved this video! I have just bought a tiny set of wax Maqpro makeup and also have the makeup mixer. Do you always use that when you use this makeup as foundation? It seems dry otherwise and I’m not sure how far I would get in getting it to flow smoothly over my face?
Miglior video no make-up che ho visto fino ad oggi 😍
Grazie!!! ❤❤
Ummm you rock!
I much prefer this kind of makeup tutorial over the over saturated content creator stuff
I've watched this video at least 6 times now lol
Hi im here again. 😊 I just want to ask for your take on henry cavill's superman makeup. His complexion was really nice and flawless in his close up's in the movie. If u could pls do a video on how u would do that if u were his makeup artist. Plss. 😊🙏🙏🙏
Helloooo!! Oh yes, it’s so amazing!! I would love to do a tutorial on a guy. I’m going to add that to my list of things to film!
@@MakeupByShannonMarie thank you so much for considering this suggestion. That would be so nice. ❤😊
Are these products good for oily skin? :(
Hi I'm an Aspiring Makeup Artist based out of Albuquerque New Mexico!!!
Hahaha I'm the girl that slide into your Instagram DMs.
there was a soft dewy or shimmery eye shadow look on black swan. not the feathers, i mean when she is nina sayers. there is a soft glow to her lids and i have been trying to find that secret ever since. i tried mists, gloss, vaseline and i can’t get the right effect.
Oooo, I'm going to have to investigate!!
A) how did your hand not eat all of that up, 2) how long wearing is this foundation
Hahahaha, it’s a super weird texture. It’ll like whip up for a minute but then when it sets, it’s on. You need so little for it to be effective. I get a pretty great wear with it. Especially when using the color correction method 😊 also super great/handy for fast touch ups!
Love this! How would you compare the Maq Pro to the Sian Richards ones?
Hey!! Great question, I've actually been getting this question a lot, I think I'll make a separate video about them showing the difference :) Really the only thing that they have in common are the colors, haha! I love them both, but use them for different reasons. Once you feel the two side by side, you immediately see/feel the difference!

Oooo, let me look in my kit and get the exact names!! :) Thanks so much for watching!! :)
Definitely!! For an everyday look that’s what I do too!! I only do this technique for actors on screen 🤗
No need to set it with powder?
So I like to think of all tones moving warm or cool, so they are fluid.”
Check out her FB group The Flesh Tone Color Wheel, it’s such an amazing resource!!
@@MakeupByShannonMarie thank you so much for your time to reply. I Really appreciated that. Well looks like i still have a lot of things to learn and to discover. Let me check that fb page. Thank you so much again. Godbless. 😊🙏
