    This is honestly a game-changer, especially for new users who still don't know their way around creating accurate selections and using the refine tool to it's full ability yet. Thank you so much for yet another comprehensive video!

    Fantastic addition to the toolbox. I'd like to see how it works on an image that does not look like a wolf on a white background, though.

      You're right, I think I got excited with the addition of the tools but I should have spent more time doing some photo manipulations to give a full picture. I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment!

    I didn't know this was available with the last update. I only work in the betas. Well I guess my lazy butt need to go ahead and install the latest beta version that I DL'd a few days ago. The thing bugs me everyday when I jump into Affinity. This looks niiice! And it's about time too! Lol. It's essentially an editable background remover (plus more). I'm glad too because I'm wayy too impatient and overly meticulous to do intricate selections. It ALWAYS take me far too long.🤨
    Hey DM - Now ya knooow... It would be great if you were to use some of your new fangled goodies in a couple of your upcoming tutorials so that folks can see them in action. Whacha think about that self-promotion?

      Hey Comps - hope you're well!
      I'm a big fan of this update, sometimes they can be very small minor changes..but this one counts!
      I think that is a great idea, I need to make more use of them within my own videos!

    Every time I see 'Affinity update!' I get excited, and then have to calm down because it won't be what I'm hoping for.
    Huge fan of the Affinity apps, but I was so disappointed when they removed the 'standalone' option for dual monitor Macs. Because I'm still using v1, I can have all my tools on one monitor, and the images on the other. Since v2, the primary toolbar must be attached to an image, there's no standalone setup. Since Mac video management is complicated, it's unlikely they'll ever go back, and it makes me sad to keep missing new features. (Not that AI interests me, but so so many little quirks were fixed in v2 that I still have to put up with in v1.)
    As a wise philosopher once said, it is what it is.

      A great way to look at it. Affinity has been missing some pretty (and basic) options for a while now (image trace tool in designer being one)
      but I love the products and will continue to use and support them as much as I can

      I don't believe they'll charge. Affinity has been really good about knowing what us users want. We can't rule it out, but I would be shocked.

    But, did they steal some else's artwork to train their models?
    Most artists are not only concerned about their OWN artwork being stolen. They don't want ANYONE'S artwork to be stolen. We all have no problems with companies using artwork for which permissions have been given by the artists for their artwork to be used for training models. But, we all want those permissions to be explicitly and specifically for training models. So far, I have seen no vendor claiming to use models built ONLY upon artwork with those specific permissions given.

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Thats actually a very interesting question. I think Affinity has gone about this the right way for us users but it does make a good point.

    • @Xero_Wolf
      @Xero_Wolf วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      They don't need to steal anything. This isn't generative AI so it's not creating artwork from anywhere. It's object recognition. They can train the models on stock photos that they have the rights to use. I have some of my photos and videos on a stock site and I can opt-in to allowing them to be used in training AI models. It's interesting because I've actually seen a few cents come in now and then from it lol. I agree though that they need to be upfront an totally clear that their models have be trained on content that they have the rights or permissions to use.

    When you say "no one is stealing your stuff", how do you know that?
    To the best of my knowledge, Serif has not disclosed where their training data comes from. Most training data sets contain stolen information.

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is honestly a great question and was asked earlier in the comments. Wolf responded with this:
      'They don't need to steal anything. This isn't generative AI so it's not creating artwork from anywhere. It's object recognition. They can train the models on stock photos that they have the rights to use. I have some of my photos and videos on a stock site and I can opt-in to allowing them to be used in training AI models. I agree though that they need to be upfront an totally clear that their models have be trained on content that they have the rights or permissions to use.'
      I think it makes sense but we should definitely be aware of where it's coming from.
      Appreciate you watching!
