    • @StefanoIaniro
      @StefanoIaniro  ปีที่แล้ว +79

@@G4lacta If you have feeders and they visit, it’ll be much easier. If you wait until the feeder is empty and stand beside it with seed in your hand, that is one of the better techniques. It could take some time, but try not to move too much and they’ll feel more comfortable coming down to inspect. If they’re really skittish, you may need to play the long game and put a pile of seeds out, and over time move it closer and closer to you until they feel safe enough to land.

Our ponds are not nearly as big as yours but we’ve learned to attract more bird diversity by adding vegetation along the edges. Willows especially. This year, we have nesting Green Herons in a pond slightly larger than a two car garage. It’s a species that is not especially common here at 2000’ in the NC mountains. Shoreline is 80% trees and shrubs. Wouldn’t make photography any easier though!

As a professional trapper who experiences both of the good and the bad side of habitat, on a daily basis, I have to say, I am amazed and commend you on how well and how thoughtfully you’re approaching the management of that patch in Quebec that you share with all the critters. Your thoughtful approach is so important and I wish more people did that I have seen far too many failures and habitat and wildlife conflicts so please keep up the good work. Hi there!
I checked to see if you were on Twitter, but you don't seem to use it anymore
I live in Dunrobin, Ontario, a similar environment to you! A mixture of forest and wetland.
    My wildlife tips are this:
    -mimic wild whenever possible!!
    -rip out all the lawn
-let the trees grow to the water for 50-70% of the way around. It makes a huge difference...green herons, kingfishers etc
-wild tall grass+native plants, milkweed everywhere you can
(Wild grass means voles, which means owls and foxes, on and on
-don't worry about thinning forests for now... maybe a smaller part, speeds up hardwood - sugar maple, red/Burr oak etc...which will take years to start seeding🤷‍♂️
    Mess is good
    Giant brush piles
    Cheers

That pine stand is an amazing opportunity. I don't know if you've looked into forest gardens at all, but it might be something that interests you!

Itd be really cool to see you create a healthy ecosystem for those trout that are now your pets. Might require some smaller fish, some fish food dispensers, pojd nutrients, other stuff like that, but i wonder how big you could get those trout if you tag them and start tracking them

Really excited to see many more species over the migration season! I really love how you are making arrangements for all different kinds of animals to thrive in this biodiverse region. Also, it's amazing to see how comfortable the birds have become with you!

I've loved all of your videos for quite a while and really enjoyed you mini wildlife pond updates before you moved but these last few have been on another level, it's so awesome that you've worked hard enough to now have all of this to work with! Each episode is almost a cliffhanger and leaves me eager for the next, thanks as always Stefano!

I started to do some birding 2 months ago because of you, and I’ve seen 20-30 species of birds since then, a couple I can’t identify yet. BUT! Today I seen a Scarlet Tanager, and it was my first time seeing it EVER! Never seen it online or anything. They’re beautiful looking red birds with black wings & tail. New favorite bird for sure. Thank you for helping me pay attention more to nature so I can spot these beautiful things! 🎉

That’s amazing! They’re one of the most stunning birds for sure. We should have some around here, but don’t think our forest is mature enough for them yet. Congrats on the sightings!

I like your idea for the front wildlife pond. Adding various species such as Rock Bass, Bluegill/Pumpkin Seed/Etc. Here is one recommendation, It would be good to add a few Sandy/Gravel spots so that certain species can have better areas to lay their eggs. Bass for example.

Yeah good idea! There's a nice spot beside one of the inflows for a gravel bed
