I’ve seen tons of TLoU2 discussions that ultimately go down the path of, “Just because you don’t like the story doesn’t mean it was poorly told.” I personally loved the game and I think it would be great to hear a film critic (and not a game critic) share an opinion on how well thought out and executed the game’s narrative choices are or aren’t. If there was a movie or TV series that faithfully told the exact same story, would that be a story worth telling as-is?
Well, if the characters in the second half were interesting the story would’ve worked. The new characters in that game are either boring or flat out forgettable. In the first game there were no throwaway characters, every side character was interesting & when they died it left in impact on players but when a new character from this game died they were like “okay, who’s next?”
I honestly feel people who liked this game focuses more on what the game was trying to rather its execution, just because this story makes bold decisions doesn’t make it groundbreaking or innovative, and on top of that just because the pacing of the game is a new and experimental one doesn’t make it deep, sophisticated, or any good. It makes it feel horrific, convoluted, & clustered. Hell, I don’t know if you know this but Neil druckmann said in an interview he didn’t know where to put certain cutscenes in the game so he just had other people do it. People are more in love with the ideas it presents not how it all played out.
Glad to see you speak honestly about the new Peter face. I hate it too and it honestly make me not want to continue playing the new games. It doesn’t even feel like the same character, and he’s the one we’ve grown so attached to. Feels like betrayal
Chris you NEED to play and review the Uncharted games. They are making a movie based off them next year, starring Tom Holland and Mark Walhberg. Edit: Uncharted 1-4. At the very least, Uncharted 4, but definitely aim for all 4. Think, “Modern Indiana Jones the video game” and you get Uncharted. You’ll love them.

On Yong Yea’s channel, he showed that Miles spawned into the game as a streetlamp one time, so he just had a streetlamp web-swinging through the city for a couple minutes until the game crashed lol
@@jd5726 Most modern bugs in large production/"AAA" games arise from porting to multiple platforms/systems. In this case, though, it's only 2 systems. I'd give them a lot more leeway were it on the One s/x, Series versions, PS4/5, Switch, and PC(trying to get it to run on hundreds of thousands of configurations). I can only assume there was a rush put on it to make it available for the holiday season and PS5 release. It really should have been given another 6 weeks to bake in the oven.
@@AdamIsUrqed Not only that, but they've been working on this through COVID season. I imagine that probably led to fewer legal working hours or some other complications like that. I'm not saying it shouldn't have been delayed a couple weeks or so, because that might've helped a bit, but at least it's only tame stuff like this. With the way they handled the first game post-launch, I'm sure most of this will be ironed out in good time.

Here in the uk, the PS4 version of miles morales is actually more expensive than all PS4 AAA games. They said they changed the face to better match the voice actor so he could no cap it or something. But that’s not true because Joel’s voice actor in last of us looks nothing like the character but the mo cap looked great so I feel insomniac aren’t being entirely truthful on the reason for the change.
For the first point, exactly!! It cost £52!! That's more than the first game and any standard edition physical game ive brought on ps4 ever. That's ridiculous for a base game that's only got a 7 hour story and with very similar map and combat to it's predecessor. It should have been a dlc for the base game (better than the 3 crappy ones we got). Or at the very least be priced around £30, like uncharted lost legacy was. And for the second point, i agree as well. And although i don't actually care enough to go on Twitter sending death threats, i definitely preferred the OG face. For this new one they cast ben jordan to be the face (replacing John bubinak) as it was supposedly better for yuri lowenthal's voice acting. Well that's bullshit as the OG went perfect for the voice acting and actually looked the characters age. They could have easily kept John and just upped the textures, and kept the fans happy. I definitely think the fact that ben Jordan looks a lot more like tom holland is a factor as to why they changed it

Not all the risks panned out, but the fact that they took those narrative risks in the first place in the attempt to tell *their* story should be celebrated. Not enough people understand that. Thank you for the nuanced look.
I can applaud them for deciding to take risks, but if they’re not gonna pan out and the execution of said risks is gonna turn out as half-assed as it did, then I’m not gonna really feel inclinded to celebrate it. Whereas FF7R took risks, but I feel like those turned out a lot better in the end due to giving a unique spin on an old story, rather than retroactively changing a previous story for the sake of subversion. But that’s just my personal opïnion.

You, or anyone else, may not like the direction the story was taken, but that's a personal preference, not something wrong with Naughty Dog's work.

Kinda sad Chris wasn’t comfortable putting out a Last of us 2 review although I totally understand why. @Bum Mordecai I actually heard they did it because it was easier to animate...and I DEFINITELY see how; new Peter's face has absolutely NO emotion. Just watched the "Take off your mask, I want to see my nephew" and laughed at how outright terrible his face was in THE most emotional moment in the entire game. Original Peter's face captured that moment perfect. The new face doesn't even have tears.

When my biggest complaint is that I wanted more it I knew this was a great game. I agree that Peter's new face is way too young but hopefully I'll get over it seeing it more.
Just started this game last night, I’m going to beat it after work. I definitely agree with you about the last of us past 2. They took a risk that not everyone going to love, but went with it. Totally didn’t pay off at the end and the final moment till the end credits dang on for me. Love the back and forth, but when certain characters died I didn’t feel the weight of it because how the story was told.
Just beat this game yesterday and throughly enjoyed the experience. It’s a great thing to see representation done the right way in things you love. Spider-Man/Peter Parker has always been my favorite superhero. With the introduction of Miles within that world my love for the characters increased. It was an amazing experience playing as one of my favorites, whom happens to look closer to me in appearance. Thanks for the awesome review Chris.😃✌🏽

I love that after the initial hate died down for TLOU part 2, more people have said they enjoyed it and don’t understand why so many people hate the game. It’s such a similar situation to TLJ, where they took a risk, the loud half hated it, and now that they are more quiet about it, more people have come out saying they appreciate the risks taken.

I agree, I had no issues with the redesign of peters face but he's so unrecognizable from the peter parker we knew, he felt and look young and wasn't really looking like the mentor we knew of him from it's predecessor. They should've stuck with the classic and older looking peter with enhanced visuals.
When you unlock Miles’ suit from Into the Spiderverse the frame rate is slowed down to look more like the animation of the movie and with his unique swinging it’s the best way to relive the movie. I love this game
insomniac should let people decide which character model to use for Peter. I think the new one looks fine, and moreover it makes sense that for the remaster and sequel they wanted higher quality textures, facial models, hair, skin, raytracing, etc. and so to make his facial animations look more believable and less wooden, they based his new face on someone that looks more like the voice actor did when he was younger. This means his lips, nose, cheeks, and associated facial muscles now move similarly to Yuri Lowenthal’s for a more believable looking character. I don’t think it was worth people making death threats or boycotting or anything, but if they let people choose the model the same way you can choose which suit to wear, that should please everyone.
@@Awoken0 That is not true. The face model doesn't even do mo cap. He is just the face. Yuri Lowenthal (voice actor) does the mo cap. The reason why they changed it was because the facial features from the old model were so distinct from Yuri's facial features they wouldn't be able to fully explore Ps5's facial animation. At least that's what insomniac said.
I loved this game. Miles Morales Spider-Man profile is getting bigger and better. Soon we will definitely see a live action Morales movie in the MCU/Sony.
The new Peter works a lot better in the Spider-Man remaster on ps5 than he does in Miles morales. I like original Peter too, but this new one grows on you. For some reason, though the character models are amazing, the performance capture and the voice acting just isn’t as good in miles as it is in the main game. Even with Peter. I’m sure I’ll have fun with it, but I’m really more excited for the remaster.

Those glitches you showed happened to me too and in the opening with rhino in the mall, I fell through the floor then ran into an invisible wall and had to reload the checkpoint
On Yong Yea’s channel, he showed that Miles spawned into the game as a streetlamp one time, so he just had a streetlamp web-swinging through the city for a couple minutes until the game crashed lol

@@jd5726 Most modern bugs in large production/"AAA" games arise from porting to multiple platforms/systems. In this case, though, it's only 2 systems. I'd give them a lot more leeway were it on the One s/x, Series versions, PS4/5, Switch, and PC(trying to get it to run on hundreds of thousands of configurations).
I can only assume there was a rush put on it to make it available for the holiday season and PS5 release. It really should have been given another 6 weeks to bake in the oven.
@@AdamIsUrqed Not only that, but they've been working on this through COVID season. I imagine that probably led to fewer legal working hours or some other complications like that. I'm not saying it shouldn't have been delayed a couple weeks or so, because that might've helped a bit, but at least it's only tame stuff like this. With the way they handled the first game post-launch, I'm sure most of this will be ironed out in good time.

Here in the uk, the PS4 version of miles morales is actually more expensive than all PS4 AAA games.
They said they changed the face to better match the voice actor so he could no cap it or something.
But that’s not true because Joel’s voice actor in last of us looks nothing like the character but the mo cap looked great so I feel insomniac aren’t being entirely truthful on the reason for the change.
For the first point, exactly!! It cost £52!! That's more than the first game and any standard edition physical game ive brought on ps4 ever. That's ridiculous for a base game that's only got a 7 hour story and with very similar map and combat to it's predecessor. It should have been a dlc for the base game (better than the 3 crappy ones we got). Or at the very least be priced around £30, like uncharted lost legacy was.
And for the second point, i agree as well. And although i don't actually care enough to go on Twitter sending death threats, i definitely preferred the OG face. For this new one they cast ben jordan to be the face (replacing John bubinak) as it was supposedly better for yuri lowenthal's voice acting. Well that's bullshit as the OG went perfect for the voice acting and actually looked the characters age. They could have easily kept John and just upped the textures, and kept the fans happy. I definitely think the fact that ben Jordan looks a lot more like tom holland is a factor as to why they changed it

I like the mini discussion on TLOU P2 at the end there, and I agree completely. Not all the risks panned out, but the fact that they took those narrative risks in the first place in the attempt to tell *their* story should be celebrated. Not enough people understand that. Thank you for the nuanced look.

I can applaud them for deciding to take risks, but if they’re not gonna pan out and the execution of said risks is gonna turn out as half-assed as it did, then I’m not gonna really feel inclinded to celebrate it. Whereas FF7R took risks, but I feel like those turned out a lot better in the end due to giving a unique spin on an old story, rather than retroactively changing a previous story for the sake of subversion.
But that’s just my personal opïnion.
@@amirgarcia547 Eh, I didn't really get that sense from Part 2. Everything in the original game still happened, it still mattered. Nothing in the first game was changed by the events of this one. You, or anyone else, may not like the direction the story was taken, but that's a personal preference, not something wrong with Naughty Dog's work.

Kinda sad Chris wasn’t comfortable putting out a Last of us 2 review although I totally understand why. There was way too much toxicity surrounding that game and if anyone mentioned anything positive about the game they were labeled a shill being paid by Sony. Whether you love the game or hate the game doesn’t matter, you shouldn’t call people shills without proof and you DEFINITELY should not send anyone death threats.

@Bum Mordecai I actually heard they did it because it was easier to animate...and I DEFINITELY see how; new Peter's face has absolutely NO emotion. Just watched the "Take off your mask, I want to see my nephew" and laughed at how outright terrible his face was in THE most emotional moment in the entire game. Original Peter's face captured that moment perfect. The new face doesn't even have tears.

Peter Parker’s new design makes him almost look emotionless & I hate it also. Literally was perfect in the first game there was no reason to butcher his character.
Maybe when all the noise dies down for the last of us 2 it would be pretty awesome to see your review on it, spoilers and all. I think theres a lot of interesting stuff there despite the immature level of hate some ppl give it.

Just started this game last night, I’m going to beat it after work. I definitely agree with you about the last of us past 2. They took a risk that not everyone going to love, but went with it. Totally didn’t pay off at the end and the final moment till the end credits dang on for me. Love the back and forth, but when certain characters died I didn’t feel the weight of it because how the story was told.

Just beat this game yesterday and throughly enjoyed the experience. It’s a great thing to see representation done the right way in things you love. Spider-Man/Peter Parker has always been my favorite superhero. With the introduction of Miles within that world my love for the characters increased. It was an amazing experience playing as one of my favorites, whom happens to look closer to me in appearance. Thanks for the awesome review Chris.😃✌🏽

I love that after the initial hate died down for TLOU part 2, more people have said they enjoyed it and don’t understand why so many people hate the game. It’s such a similar situation to TLJ, where they took a risk, the loud half hated it, and now that they are more quiet about it, more people have come out saying they appreciate the risks taken.

@@DarkAttackYT TLOU2 didn't subvert expectations, everyone and their mom knew who was gonna die since the very first TLOU2 trailer, everyone knew it was obvious and expected it, it's the outrage machine that came after the leaks that started acting like it's subversive.

I agree, I had no issues with the redesign of peters face but he's so unrecognizable from the peter parker we knew, he felt and look young and wasn't really looking like the mentor we knew of him from it's predecessor. They should've stuck with the classic and older looking peter with enhanced visuals.

When you unlock Miles’ suit from Into the Spiderverse the frame rate is slowed down to look more like the animation of the movie and with his unique swinging it’s the best way to relive the movie. I love this game
Last time I was this early, I still didn’t get the PS5
insomniac should let people decide which character model to use for Peter. I think the new one looks fine, and moreover it makes sense that for the remaster and sequel they wanted higher quality textures, facial models, hair, skin, raytracing, etc. and so to make his facial animations look more believable and less wooden, they based his new face on someone that looks more like the voice actor did when he was younger. This means his lips, nose, cheeks, and associated facial muscles now move similarly to Yuri Lowenthal’s for a more believable looking character.
I don’t think it was worth people making death threats or boycotting or anything, but if they let people choose the model the same way you can choose which suit to wear, that should please everyone.

@@Awoken0 That is not true. The face model doesn't even do mo cap. He is just the face. Yuri Lowenthal (voice actor) does the mo cap.
The reason why they changed it was because the facial features from the old model were so distinct from Yuri's facial features they wouldn't be able to fully explore Ps5's facial animation. At least that's what insomniac said.

I loved this game. Miles Morales Spider-Man profile is getting bigger and better. Soon we will definitely see a live action Morales movie in the MCU/Sony.
Swinging on the PS5 is incredible. The way the trigger tension changes with the tension on the web is amazing.

The new Peter works a lot better in the Spider-Man remaster on ps5 than he does in Miles morales. I like original Peter too, but this new one grows on you. For some reason, though the character models are amazing, the performance capture and the voice acting just isn’t as good in miles as it is in the main game. Even with Peter. I’m sure I’ll have fun with it, but I’m really more excited for the remaster.
