I think I'm the only one who noticed this tiny detail but it's definitely at the bottom of the iceberg. If you don't walk past the candle as ashley in chapter 6, when Josh reveals his plans in the flashback instead of Ashley being spooked by the candle. It shows Josh lighting the candle for Sam. Details like that make this game for me.

Something I would have added in the 4th Tier would've been the fact that, as a result of Mike's plot armour, he encounters Hannah's Wendigo a surprising number of times, but she doesn't kill him. There is the time when Mike and Jess go through the mines heading to the cabin (crawling in the background after finding the Jess Fortune Totem) in Chap 2. Also when Mike looks up and can shoot her after the chase to save Jess. The most obvious time is in Chap 10 when Mike gets pulled under the water, but she will kill Josh right after (if you didn't find the Scrawled Journal) or take him away. Another Chap 10 example is that Hannah also only throws Mike against the wall in the lodge despite brutally murdering the others. And I think a few other times that I can't remember off the top of my head. I do think it's interesting and I've seen it used to fuel the Hannah still recognises everyone theory.
Sorry if this is a bit too rambly- I feel as if the heavy targeting of Chris and Ashley wasn't actually meant to torture Chris (intentionally. I know in a earlier version he was part of the prank. But if memory serves correct- I think there was also another version where Chris DID help Josh set up the traps). Seeing how everything goes down, Chris isn't the one to be most emotionally damaged by the revenge prank- it's Ashley. The girl that partook in the prank that resulted in the twins going missing. Cause in every situation, Josh puts Chris in power to pull the trigger both figurately and literally. The first choice between Josh and Ashley, while not an actual choice, Josh still recall the saw scene and will taunt Chris if he chose to save Ashley. Because in his head, why would Chris ever choose the girl that got his sisters killed than save him? Why not him, the guy that's been suffering a massive loss the whole year. After the saw trap, Ashley and Chris are both traumatized, but Chris seems to mask his fear while Ashley goes on to either deflect her guilt or wallow in it. Her character starts to peel back the shy, nice girl persona the game presents at the start to reveal the more complex person she is. Her choices to deflect showing that she is a person in fact capable of being cruel and mean and shameless. While going into her little beat-me-up responses only go so far to admit what she did was wrong and that she feels bad for what could have possibly happened to Hannah and Beth. Her focus is still on herself with both routes and it starts to show her last nasty trait: selfishness. But it again makes her complex cause, who wouldn't be in this situation? One of her friends just got cut in half right next to her and now they're being hunted down by a psychotic killer. And then we get to the second trap! Oh boy! This time the power is still given to Chris, but it's not between two people he likes- it's between him and the girl he likes! Ashley is dead certain that it may have been luck (aka Chris' crush) that saved her with the first trap, but now it's a imbalanced choice. If you shoot yourself(Chris), then it makes sense that Ashley would be the least traumatized. She is somewhat-unhealthily attracted to Chris at that point cause he didn't hesitate to take himself out, but it may of been the best choice as Ashley then has no more worry about her life being tested. If you don't shoot, she's still moderately traumatized, but she still sees Chris in a positive light cause he rather die with her. If you do shoot her, all her negatives are justified cause she is refusing to open the door for Chris because- why? What if the next trap comes along and what? What is she to do? She's been powerless the whole time Josh was fucking around with them, so why spare Chris if he will just pull the trigger on her again? What if it actually gets her killed? Cause at that moment a actual danger comes, she WANTS to survive, even if it means keeping the door shut, even if it means keeping the journal notes to herself. All that power is suddenly in her hands and there's no way she'd fumble it. Not with the unpredictable group she's stuck with and especially after all the traumatizing tests she's been unwilfully forced to participate in the whole night.
Don't apologize; this is really interesting! I actually love this take on things and on how it affects Ashley, especially in regard to her choice not to open the door for Chris if he shoots at her. It made enough sense on its own, but the idea of her weighing a risk of a future threat or something like that where again she doesn't have a choice and deciding to eliminate the possible threat is really interesting and works really well with what we've seen of her character so far. Thanks for sharing this idea!
It's Just a shame that she's so hated only for being human, because everyone would do the same in her place, it's really a shame... she's my best character along with Emily, and i can see that Ash and Em have a really Care for each other, but everyone Just Hate Ash Just for three things: 1- kill Chris 2- Being human 3- and "kill Em" But people Just forget that the one who kill Em is Mike, Ash was only scared and traumatized (and in my opinion, the slap was for a good cause, but she don't deserved to be pushed while Mike was right in front of her, and also, her panick attack suit really well If she loved Chris, but he didn't get até the door in time, so she would be really traumatized and depressed seeing her lover die before her eyes by the Wendigo without her doing NOTHING to help, over again being powerless, so she see what a Wendigo os capable to do, and she fear that she's the next, along with Sam and mike) and also, when Mike Kill Em, along with Sam, Ashley relationship with Mike drops to ZERO, and she see Mike like a treat, Just like she saw Chris like one, she saw her friend being killed, she see that Mike could easily kill her If she get in his dark side, and she really regret about yell at Em to leave, because this only Will make her more powerless, not being able to save her friend, and If you notice, If you Shoot Emily, Ashley will be really scared being near Mike, while he says that everything Will be ok, he try to see Ashley and she immediatly get Far from him like If he's a Crazy and psycho... A curious fact about Ashley: If Sam die in the lodge but she still have the others, she won't see the lodge taking fire, but being near Emily and Chris, but If only she left alive, She'll sit hugging her knees in a rock like position alone in the Snow and Lean back and front, without even Care about the fire, she'll be Sad about being alone and being the only survivor in the lodge
Another Fun fact about Ashley: She's the only female character with a high relationship with Jessica, so that explain why she can invastigate the voice

I found it so fun that after Adh read in the journal that the wendigos can mimic people, it was cool that we were put to the test later. Hearing the voice of 'Jessica' I immediately understood that it was a wendigo. And thank god it was cause I regrouped 😂 I'm happy it was used in the game, and that it could have Ash murdered if we didnt take the journal in account!
You can find overloaded power stripes near the guest cabin, and it has no power. Along with the Karma Sutra and the photo of Hannah, it’s likely something was planned but josh miscalculated the power requirements
I wonder if people initially got the idea of "exorcising" the wendigo's spirit from Chris. I don't remember when he said it, but it was something along the lines of "what if they can be cured?", so even though there's not much actual evidence for such a thing even being possible kn the first, people just kinda ran with it because it sounded interesting.

Love this video and your cosplay, that shade of red in your wig looks really beautiful on you! This is something I found out about the game that isn't mentioned in your iceberg: one of the characters was supposed to be pregnant but was taken out due to it adding too much onto the plot!

I didn't mention it in my iceberg either but I do now that early on Ashley was going to be a drug addict, but they also scrapped that plot pretty early.
(I’m late haha) I reinstalled until dawn to replay it and I noticed something. The graphics were better and a lot of the bugs were fixed. They added back the global stats but it looks more better and they added a new global stat to see how many people has bot choice any of the choices and done neither.

32:32 for Emily not to get bit by the wendigo you need to get every qte right and have the flare gun, or atleast that’s how I did it edit: I did both jump over and get off options and was able to not get bit both times

The name Jack Fiddler is a reference to the real person Jack Fiddler, which was the 'white' name of Zhauwuno-geezhigo-gaubow, an Ojibwe medicine man and chief that claimed to have killed 14 wendigos in his lifetime. He and his brother were arrested by the NWMP for murder (because wendigos aren't real and he killed people) and he killed himself. The name "Blackwood Pines" is also a reference to Algernon Blackwood and his short story "The Wendigo" which was one of the first (or the first?) modern Wendigo-story.
Intresting thing about the chapter 10 immunity, while Chris has it, Emily and Ashley can also get it. If Chris is dead, the immunity defaults to whoever was first out of the basement (Ashley if you lied about the truth or if Emily was never bitten. Or Emily gets it if Ashely tells the truth and she pushes Ashley out of the way). They end up in the same position Chris should have been in, and is able to bale before being able to blow the lodge up. This also applies if 2 of the 3 are dead. Whoever is left is automatically safe and runs out before there’s a chance to die. Alternatively there’s an interesting scene with Chris Emily and Ashley where if Sam and Mike die in the lodge ASAP, the three of them run out together at the same time with no chance of them dying.

This game has always been one of my favorites. Though it wasn't extensively covered, The lore depicted was actually extremely close to what the Cree, Algonquin and Ojibwe' believed in the Wendigo. As far as the 'Stranger' goes, I think he was very loosely based on Jack Fiddler. The Wendigo killer.

Okay I've got something thats been bugging me and I don't know how its triggered, when Matt and Emily fin Ashley and Chris after Josh's "death", usually they say the line about Jess and Mike off so where 69ing each other and all that, but I watched a playthrough and they got a different line where Chris accuses Emily and Matt of just wanting to save themselves. I have no idea why the scene was different.
I know which scene you're talking about but I also don't know how exactly to get it. I think I've only gotten it once myself, and I want to say it probably depends on Matt and Emily's relationship being really good, just based on that it's rare for someone to have a really high relationship for them on a playthrough and so it would explain it being really rare (and there isn't much time to affect anything else with Emily anyway; you can't vary her relationship with Chris by that point I don't think.) Logically this would also make sense in that Emily might be feeling less insecure about Mike and Jess if she's happy with how things are going with Matt, but this is all still just a guess. I do love that alternate version of the scene though because it shows a different side of Emily; you'd expect her to be mad at an accusation like that, but she's calm and understanding instead, which is really neat.

I live in the uk and the cute dlc Matt and Emily scene is in the base game for me, I never preordered the game as I got it in like 2017, but yeah I think you’re right, the European version has the dlc built into the base game on purchase

I LOVE THE CLOSET COSPLAY i can’t watch this yet because i’m waiting to play the game myself (watched gameplays when i was younger and my memory is so bad that hopefully it’ll be like experiencing it for the first time) but i can’t wait to revisit this once i’ve cleared it

This game has always been one of my favorites. Though it wasn't extensively covered, The lore depicted was actually extremely close to what the Cree, Algonquin and Ojibwe' believed in the Wendigo. As far as the 'Stranger' goes, I think he was very loosely based on Jack Fiddler. The Wendigo killer.

Okay I've got something thats been bugging me and I don't know how its triggered, when Matt and Emily fin Ashley and Chris after Josh's "death", usually they say the line about Jess and Mike off so where 69ing each other and all that, but I watched a playthrough and they got a different line where Chris accuses Emily and Matt of just wanting to save themselves. I have no idea why the scene was different.
I know which scene you're talking about but I also don't know how exactly to get it. I think I've only gotten it once myself, and I want to say it probably depends on Matt and Emily's relationship being really good, just based on that it's rare for someone to have a really high relationship for them on a playthrough and so it would explain it being really rare (and there isn't much time to affect anything else with Emily anyway; you can't vary her relationship with Chris by that point I don't think.)
Logically this would also make sense in that Emily might be feeling less insecure about Mike and Jess if she's happy with how things are going with Matt, but this is all still just a guess. I do love that alternate version of the scene though because it shows a different side of Emily; you'd expect her to be mad at an accusation like that, but she's calm and understanding instead, which is really neat.
