Thomas, You introduced me to kayak hunting through your videos and now it's my exclusive style to hunt here in Northern Ontario. River floats, pond jumps and hiding in the reeds with dekes out. I take no shame in learning from you and using your ideas to hunt! Always excited to watch your videos as they pop up. Great video and great shoot, can't wait for the next one. Congrats on the limit! P.s. you get used to the smaller kayaks and it becomes muscle memory as I'm sure you know. I've been wanting a nice big hybrid like yours but can't justify it when the little ones work just as well!
Thanks Ryan! Love to hear that you’re using a kayak up there too, how has the season been so far in Ontario? I agree about the smaller kayaks, just takes a little while to get used to the lack of stability after using a 12 footer for so long
If you’re still up here in AK and wanna go on a kayak hunt for some divers and dabblers this weekend let me know I’ll be heading out on duck lake and could always use a plus one!
Thanks Owen, I really appreciate the offer! Unfortunately I’m heading out soon and don’t think I’m going to be back up in that area before I leave. I’m hoping to come back up next September though and would definitely be down to hunt together then!
Thomas I freaking love your kayak hunts. This was definitely a cool unique hunt. I really want to see you do a sea duck hunt while you're in Alaska. Harlequins and barrows and long tails. Looking forward to seeing more of you this season. And really hoping for another flyways collective collab. All of my favorite TH-camrs together.
Thanks Alex, I appreciate you watching! Unfortunately I don’t think I’m gonna be able to make a sea duck hunt happen up here this season but hopefully I can chase some up here next fall
Cool video Thomas. Can't get more different in a kayak and in Alaska! Opener here in SD.last Saturday .Foggy but did decent north of me about 70 miles as the ducks fly. Stay safe and continued success.
No sign of early migration yet Thomas. Most of the corn is still not cut and ALL of the waters are open.On average mid November starts the north/south flow and last till food sources or freeze up occurs. Continued safe ,fun,Alaskan adventures.
Great video. A tip here is to use a single paddle when you are up the creeks. About 3ft long and about a 1ft wide, tied to the boat, then you can get the gun up quicker. (Also attach your gun as well or attach a float in case it goes over board). The old punt gunners used this and you may find a photo somewhere. You can also stabilize the kayak by attaching the long floats that the kids use in the pools, to the sides; with a bit of paint to cover up the usualy bright colours. Dont take any silly chances out there - Stay safe!
Thanks David, I appreciate the tip! I'll have to try to figure out a stabilizer system for this little kayak next year plus a blind for it. I'd really like to take it more places but the lack of stability is the main limiting factor
Awesome video. Running ducks, whales, ..... don't see that in VA lol. Continue having a great time and making us jealous while we wait for VA duck season. Be safe and keep the great content coming
Slow. Tons and tons of geese but colonial heights gets pissed at mall hunting 😠 overall they're harder to find.. finally saw a massive group of several hundred held up in an off limit field that's owned by out of state land business 😔 Keep up the good work.
If you like saltwater duck hunting on tides you need try wildfowling in the UK!! Whilst you won’t see anybody kayaking it certainly can be a challenge battling the tide and the weather!
Honestly you introduced me to hunting the water this way, saw a video of yours a year or two ago and then picked up a 17' canoe. Can jump shoot with it easily and still haul out a few dozen decoys and blind while still remaining fairly low key on the water. Had a bufflehead land a foot away from me while I was chasing a rogue decoy in the current one time, didn't have my gun but it surprised the heck out of me. Dope vid and hunt.
Probably sounds weird coming from some dude you dont know, but im so happy for you man. Thats so sick your out there. Living life to the fullest, seeing stuff that sooo many people will never get to see. Proud of ya kid. Came a long way from V.O.U days haha
Thanks brother, much appreciated! Just trying to live everyday to the fullest and take advantage of the opportunities I’ve been blessed with. Hope you’ve been doing well!
I got into duck hunting because I had so many fly over me or land near me while in the kayak. I thought man duck hunting must be easy. Boy was i wrong but I do get into a lot of areas where most dont go with a kayak and sometimes I can sneak right up on em.
I just recently started kayak duck hunting. I have found it very hard to sneak up on ducks in open water. The only success I’ve had is sneaking up on ducks in coves.
They have to be pretty oblivious to let you get close on open water. I think a lot of the birds I shot on the main river must've been new migrators that had never seen a kayak before
This is either going to be the smartest/dumbest thing I have done! Hahaha Jump stopping is a beautiful thing. Persistence pays off no matter the results sir. Keep it coming!
Thanks brother! Hard to beat the feeling of coming around a corner and having birds flush at close range! Gonna have to hang it up if that ever gets old
What chokes are you using? I always see an extended on the end of your guns. Any brand recommendations? Really been looking at the Kicks High Flyer and Carlson Cremator.
I use a Carlsons light modified. I've got a few buddies who use the Cremators and they all seem to like them. The choke I'm using is the same constriction as a mid-range Creamtor though and costs less
Thomas these are great Alaskan hunts you are putting out!, you might get quite a bit more views if you included that in the description. I’d think there are quite a few lower 48 duck hunters that would love to see this. You are a master at float shooting videos!!
Thanks Tim, I really appreciate it! Ive been leaving it out to try to avoid spot burning up here. Unfortunately a lot of the spots I’ve been hunting are very recognizable and I’d hate to create a crowding issue by highlighting where the good hunting is up here
I was using #2 steel on this hunt. I don’t think these early season birds take much to bring down but I could see them getting tough when they get that late season fat up here
How thick is that mud? Can you stand on it? Similar to the Bay Area (San Francisco) but you legit cannot put a foot into it. Goes up to your waist in a second. Makes me really nervous to be in a kayak with the bay currents. Not cold, but just falling in with waders freaks me out
I do not, Cory would have the information though. If you have instagram you can shoot him a message here - instagram.com/cory_loeffler/. Otherwise I can send you his email.
I didn’t see you pick up your empty shells, hopefully you did because hunters that leave them are just littering the environment and give the rest of us hunters a bad name
I always try my best to pick up all my empties and showed it multiple times on this hunt. I completely agree that littering my leaving shells or any other trash gives hunters a bad wrap
Need more kayak duck hunts. Them hunts are awesome
Hoping to get on a couple more before I leave! Tide just hasn’t been right the last couple of days
@@HokeOutdoors nice man well good luck and be safe!
Agreed
Jump shooting are by far your best videos. Your cast and blast videos are also awesome. Keep up the great work pal.
Thanks Maurice! Wish I had brought the fishing rod on this one, would’ve been fun to try to hook into a salmon in that little kayak
What make and model of kayak did you buy ?
Up in Canada I’ve been using Ascent 12t and Angler 100x
Kayak jump shooting videos are the best 👍👍👈
Thanks Cory!
Was waiting for a upload, been itching for a new video. Keep it up!
It was a strange video, but it was fun. Keep it up, Thomas♥️
Thanks brother, hope you enjoyed it!
Awesome Thomas! It’s almost like there more curious than anything when your on kayak.
It definitely seemed that way! I have a feeling these birds had never seen a kayak before
Thomas you are a good hunter - this style of kayak hunting is very labor intensive🤙

Great hunting shooting show. My favourite method for over 40 years.
Thanks Cooper! It sure is a blast!
Brilliant video, Thomas really enjoying your content this season
Thanks brother! I appreciate you watching it!
I think you did the best you could with the conditions. Interesting hunt for sure, but you got your birds ! Nice work
Thanks brother! Looking forward to seeing what your swamps/ponds drawn in this fall!
Beautiful scenery, mixed bag limit, and an unconventional hunt method made for a fun watch! Good work buddy.
Pelican kayak for the win. Great video. Love the kayak jump shoots
Thanks brother! The little pelican isn’t the most comfortable or stable but still gets it done!
Every hunt in Alaska seems like something way different than the last. Super cool vid Thomas!
Thanks brother! No lack of opportunities to try some wild and outside of the box stuff up here!
Great video, Thomas! How cool to see whales when out in a kayak! And you can't ask for more by way of scenery! Take care.
Much appreciated! How's the start of the season been for you down there?
Great hunt man.
Thanks Mike!

If I could join I'd love it, new to duck hunting but have some gear.
my fav water fowl TH-camr right here
Thanks brother! I appreciate you watching!
Talk about a backdrop to a hunt! Incredible. Hopefully I'll be able to get some jump hunting in this year.
You jump shooting ducks or geese or both??
I bet the smell of that marsh is wow lol
Oh it is! Rotting salmon and saltwater are quite the combo

I laughed out loud when you paddled up to your 4th duck that just didn't flush on you and you went, "I mean, come ON." 😂😂
I was pretty bewildered by how unbothered they seemed. I'm guessing that most these birds had never seen a kayak before though.
Those king tides are absolutely insane
No doubt, the really crazy thing is this wasn’t even a big one for this marsh
awesome hunt!
Thanks brother!
Whales! What an adventure.

Thanks for watching!
Hey I live up here in Alaska and love your videos
I appreciate you watching them! How's your season been up here this year?
For side shooting in my small kayak I hang both feet over the side for stability if I've got time to do so.
I'll have to try that next time I'm out, I appreciate the tip!
@@HokeOutdoors this is good advice
Dude! 10’ yak whale watching and killing ducks! Doesn’t get much better than that 🤙🏼
It was pretty surreal to say the least! Very glad that none of those whales came up right beside or under the kayak though
For real, that would not have been good lol. How deep was the water!? @@HokeOutdoors

Awesome
So I like walk the banks of them little rivers with the tide is low like that. I hunt in Maine. we don't have 20 foot tides but have 10 foot tides.
We've done that a bit up here too, fun way of doing it! Do the birds use the marsh more at high tide or low tide in Maine?
We need a catch and cook!
Hoping to include one in the next video
Gods Grace Bo.
What choke do you use for kayak hunting? Same as over decoys?
Yep! I have a improved modified that I'll switch to sometimes but in general I feel more confident with my light mod

Great video! nice shooting ! What camera are you using on your gun ?
What shot you using on these Alaskan birds I heard they were pretty tough/resilient
I was using #2 steel on this hunt. I don’t think these early season birds take much to bring down but I could see them getting tough when they get that late season fat up here
What choke size do you use?
Can you make a video on all the new Sitka you got and the story how you got into it
It’s actually all Cory’s gear, I’ve just been borrowing it while I’m up here
What kind of lens do you use when you’re recording duck hunts ?
I was just using two GoPro Hero 10s and my phone to record this one
Does anyone know what I can plant on the levees to attract ducks to the edge? It's October 1st but is there anything that might help?
I have been wondering about the paddle. Ever lost the paddle when you dropped it and went for your gun? Or is that a non issue? Cool video 👍🦆
What choke tubes are you using?
I was using a Carlsons Light Modified on this hunt
Hey! How many yards are those shots? They look so far away on the GoPro.
All the shots on this one were between 20-35 except for that big flock of teal. That second shot on those was probably pushing 45

Thanks Dylan! The best way to get in contact about staying up here would be to send him a message on Instagram, I'll link his account below
instagram.com/cory_loeffler/
Ducks like mudflats on outgoing tide because they can get grit
Do you have prices for the weeks?
I do not, Cory would have the information though. If you have instagram you can shoot him a message here - instagram.com/cory_loeffler/. Otherwise I can send you his email.
What gun is this one exactly ?
It's a Franchi Affinity 3
I'm sure you know, but be super careful on the mud banks.
Just curious...are you allowed to shoot them on the water? In NZ they have to be flying.
Some people think it's unethical here but there's no law against shooting a duck on the water
Some of the ducks may be sick with bird flu. It is more so in the Pacific Flyway and ducks will be lethargic and won't fly away.
Show us how you like your duck
I like it a lot of different ways. My favorite is skin on and seared on the grill though
How do we reach out to Cory?
The best route would be to shoot him a message on instagram - instagram.com/cory_loeffler/. If you don't have that I can send you his email as well

Hey do a gun cleaning video....that salt water has got to be rough on shotguns....
It definitely is! My gun turned into a single shot on the last hunt though so I don’t think I’m the guy to be giving out gun cleaning advice..

Awesome
