People always forget about Chima. I thought it was tons of fun when I was a kid. The last set of Legos I think I ever got from my grandma before she passed was a Chima set, and I loved it dearly. Edit: Ignore the arguments going on in the replies. I seem to have forgotten that the secondary purpose of the internet was to fight other people from long distances.
It's frustrating how many sequel sets there are right now, but almost no worthwhile clone wars sets on shelves at the moment. I can't wait for the UCS Gunship

Hero factory was the goated. I still remember spending my entire holidays building a mega hero with like 12 cannons from the arms legs back and all, also had a shield, double bladed chainsaw sword. Taser chain, the og handcuffs lol and other cool stuff. I rmb deciding to build that after getting the doctor smth set, the huge black colour villain with the staff. It was amazing. I even made my hero a mecha lion mount that came with flamethrowers and even more cannons and stuff. Memories

the demise of bionicle gen2 was most sadening for me. I almost felt depressed when I looked at my shelves and was able to say "I have every single set they released." I even picked up Ikimus' Falcon, that little beast that cane in a poly bag around the same time as well as all the books and graphic novels they released.
Chima is a great LEGO theme! The fantasy of Beasts battling alone is hours and hours of fun. My kids loved Chima and still do, when I introduced them to the Thundercats it was Thundercats adventures all The way using the Chima characters. We built the thunder tank, and a bunch of other Thundercats vehicles so I don’t think Chima should be in the thumbnail let alone mentioned here.
I would love to see a theme called "lego vault" where they would remake some of the best sets from themes like chima or hero factory or nexo knights and they wouldn't reboot the ENTIRE theme they would just bring back a couple sets from retired themes.
Yeah, just lego wants to investigators to still buy those sets and then making profit with those sets wouldn't be possible + Lego would lost money... :/
It also didn't have the heart and drive the original series had, originally an offshoot of the Technic line the real draw to Bionicle was the fact that they were buildable action-figures with moving parts and unique designs, it was basically LEGO's Power Rangers, the fact that we got years upon years of backstory, lore, and ever-expanding sets is just the icing on the cake after tons of kids had already taken the face-value bait.

The Adventure Time set honestly had it coming though. When you have actual minifigures in LEGO Dimensions and then screw us over in an actual chance to get some of Bubblegum and Ice King (not to mention being overpriced for what's offered), it was a bad idea from the beginning.

Chima is absolutely amazing and it made lego feel different, me and my grandma went to a shopping centre and bought the sabertooth car thing. I still have lots of it on top of z shelf in my kitchen.
Hero Factory was a HUGE part of my childhood. I still remember getting my first set, which was a first gen Stringer. I also remember how I used to binge watch the episodes of the different hero factory eras after school. Good times.
I loved all of them, exept rise of rookies... those were too lame .. but 2.0, savage planet , breakout, brain attack and invasion from below was so sick ... i were so sad when i realised that invasion from below was last series .. i thought there would be more because at every series end there was something bad like hole with brains, cocoon in the ship, sent info to bad guy.. i wanted that bad guy to become real thing but well .. lets hope they'll be back
I hated it, I want normal size bulidable heroes, not 9 piece minifigures inside a poorly bulit mech that is even smaller than heroes in previous waves. Beasts were nice tho.

I was interested in the Scooby Doo sets (yes, I grew up watching it), but it was almost impossible to get the whole gang AND the Mystery Machine without sinking a ton of money into buying the whole line. As a result, I bought - none of them.
Etneciv Lego as at the beginning when China was introduced, majority of the fan sees it as a replacement for ninjago (the stone army saga box ha even printed the words "final battle" on the box, meaning lego did plan on canceling ninjago. But thanks to the shows, it save time theme and allow it to gain a reboot) so lego end up selling both theme at the same time, but there I something like chima lacking and ninjago have, maybe it's the character, the comedy or the plot

Kinda surprised Ultra Agents wasn’t here. It’s one of my favourite themes, even though I only have one set of it, but what I do know was that Ultra Agents didn’t last long. After the first wave of 6 sets, there was another wave of Season 2, and then nothing new came

It makes sense why the Lego Jurassic World sets would sell out quickly, a *LOT* of people like the Jurassic Park\World movies, so of course they would like the sets. Also, a lot of people like the dinosaurs, but i think they should have released at least _one_ herbivore, like a re-paint of the Lego Dino Triceratops.
I used to have the mystery mansion. But one of my moms friends kids came over and I was playing with it and they kicked it when I said they couldn't keep the Scooby doo character and it was destroyed and I couldn't find the instructions so I was very upset and needless to say I had to put away all of my legos the next time they came over but luckily they haven't been back in 4 years.
Great video, I'm curious on how LEGO dimensions didn't make the list. Its disappointing that Scooby Doo and Angry Birds didn't sell well, because personally I was obsessed with those themes.
lego dimension (aside from up to 13 months dealy in some countries and relative absence of selling on some consolle) had the terrible problem of being too costly altogheder, and overly hard to jump in doe to the physical requirements of having the starter piece, and the absence of a pc version castrated it, removing the possibility from the hands of player that didn't have consolle-brand appartenence. the fact some of the charathers where part of pre existing (but understeandably, not compatible) sets what anoter nail in the coffin. and, with all the MASSIVE hype they managed to build, and the relative stock to go with it, it is understeandable. but to put things in perspective, the sells where still big enough to end up the balance in positive, if even far below what expected, while most other on the list where pretty much hemorraging money
I seem to remember a post coming out around the time of cancellation from one of Dimensions' producers mentioning that the main problem with continuing the game was the staff being overworked trying to obtain licensing rights. So much paperwork went into developing each year that in the end even though sets sold well it wasn't worth it for the employees, who could spend their time developing more one off/ traditional LEGO games.
I wanted the mystery mansion but i only got the lighthouse and the mystery machine. Honestly my idea is that a lot of popular shows would do well with a single set and potentially a cmf series so just the mystery machine with the 4 figures and Scooby. Or for Supernatural, a cmf series plus the impala
No Big Bang Theory? Every LEGO Store I walked into had TONS of these sets collecting dust! Also, I think instead of a LEGO Scooby Doo theme, it should have been a more general Hanna Barbera theme. Oh, well.
I know that all four haven’t been sold for years but my four favourite themes were speed racer, power miners, Atlantis and alien conquest. Speed racer didn’t last anywhere near long enough and I’m not sure if it just didn’t sell well but I got the truck set 8160 as soon as it came out then never stopped seeing it move down in price, I’d love to see a reboot of these themes, particularly alien conquest and power miners as I think they’d manage to do well now if they made like a series of it or something, similar to clutch powers using sets from the power miners in the clutch powers movie.
In my local toy shop, they’ve had King Pig’s Castle on display since the release of the first film. They took it off the shelf earlier this year. I think they finally realised that it was never going to sell it 💀
Well, I've _heard of_ LEGO Master Builder Academy; but it's just that I wasn't able to even get my hands on one set from that LEGO theme because it was unavailable in Canada, and it wasn't even available at my local LEGO Brand Retail Stores nor on shop.lego.com (if I set my shipping destination to "Canada"). :/
I honestly hate DC Superhero Girls. The builds are boring. They would've sold better if they had minifigures. Lego just thinks that if they throw pink and things that look that dolls in a box, girls will rush to get it! But nice video Just2Good!
I once recall reading an article that claims the "friends" figures exist because "girls found standard figures too boring" or something. There was something about "playing differently" stated too.
Yeah. But marketing was bad, and they were trying to do something too new with old characters. Felt like they compromised too much with old fans and trying to gain new ones. Really should have gone mostly in on one side or the other.
Why do girls get other kind of minifigures, as in not the traditional ones? Because they're doll-like... Why do girls always get bigger and detailed figures anyway (classic Barbie to G.I. Joe size ratio)? :D
Because Lego has more boys than girls buying their products (Not being sexist this is just an assumption) so they make girly stuff. I hate that theme though because the sets are cool but I hate the girly stuff.
because apparently girls like more doll-like figs. if I recall correctly the lego friends line was the biggest selling girls theme for a long timemeaning it's that element that factored in. simple supply and demand with a lot of market research.
it seems a lot of people put the cart before the horse in regards to business XD companies dont put out products on a whim and its the customer's job to buy it it is the customer who has a desire for a product and it's the company's job to meet that demand. otherwise, you'd never get blatantly obvious cash grabs and pandering if the companies decide what the customer wants.
I was honestly suprised that DC super hero girls didn't sell well. I thought that it was popular with younger girls.But i totally agree with the points you said in the video. I do hope we get another wave but i wouldn't be suprised if the theme ends soon.
None of them really deserved to in my view, except Scooby Doo; I think there was more potential there. I loved how each set was based on a specific episode of the show. Bionicle was always a mistake to begin with; good riddance to that.

James Lawner The 2016 line of Lego Friends had some great sets with nice detailing and play features. The Super Hero Girls line had very little besides the figures themselves ( other than Batgirl's Batwing).

Etneciv Lego as at the beginning when China was introduced, majority of the fan sees it as a replacement for ninjago (the stone army saga box ha even printed the words "final battle" on the box, meaning lego did plan on canceling ninjago. But thanks to the shows, it save time theme and allow it to gain a reboot) so lego end up selling both theme at the same time, but there I something like chima lacking and ninjago have, maybe it's the character, the comedy or the plot
I loved Chima, great theme and show was good too.

Kinda surprised Ultra Agents wasn’t here. It’s one of my favourite themes, even though I only have one set of it, but what I do know was that Ultra Agents didn’t last long. After the first wave of 6 sets, there was another wave of Season 2, and then nothing new came

Lego Exo-Force was unappreciated in it's time. Those sets were too cool.
It makes sense why the Lego Jurassic World sets would sell out quickly, a *LOT* of people like the Jurassic Park\World movies, so of course they would like the sets. Also, a lot of people like the dinosaurs, but i think they should have released at least _one_ herbivore, like a re-paint of the Lego Dino Triceratops.

I used to have the mystery mansion. But one of my moms friends kids came over and I was playing with it and they kicked it when I said they couldn't keep the Scooby doo character and it was destroyed and I couldn't find the instructions so I was very upset and needless to say I had to put away all of my legos the next time they came over but luckily they haven't been back in 4 years.
Hearing that story makes me mad

Great video, I'm curious on how LEGO dimensions didn't make the list. Its disappointing that Scooby Doo and Angry Birds didn't sell well, because personally I was obsessed with those themes.
lego dimensions sold really well, they just massively overproduced which is why they had so many sets going ridiculously cheap

lego dimension (aside from up to 13 months dealy in some countries and relative absence of selling on some consolle) had the terrible problem of being too costly altogheder, and overly hard to jump in doe to the physical requirements of having the starter piece, and the absence of a pc version castrated it, removing the possibility from the hands of player that didn't have consolle-brand appartenence. the fact some of the charathers where part of pre existing (but understeandably, not compatible) sets what anoter nail in the coffin.
and, with all the MASSIVE hype they managed to build, and the relative stock to go with it, it is understeandable. but to put things in perspective, the sells where still big enough to end up the balance in positive, if even far below what expected, while most other on the list where pretty much hemorraging money
I seem to remember a post coming out around the time of cancellation from one of Dimensions' producers mentioning that the main problem with continuing the game was the staff being overworked trying to obtain licensing rights. So much paperwork went into developing each year that in the end even though sets sold well it wasn't worth it for the employees, who could spend their time developing more one off/ traditional LEGO games.
Xbox One version is pretty buggy too. I've played both One and 360 and One is better, but only slightly.

I wanted the mystery mansion but i only got the lighthouse and the mystery machine. Honestly my idea is that a lot of popular shows would do well with a single set and potentially a cmf series so just the mystery machine with the 4 figures and Scooby. Or for Supernatural, a cmf series plus the impala

I know that all four haven’t been sold for years but my four favourite themes were speed racer, power miners, Atlantis and alien conquest. Speed racer didn’t last anywhere near long enough and I’m not sure if it just didn’t sell well but I got the truck set 8160 as soon as it came out then never stopped seeing it move down in price, I’d love to see a reboot of these themes, particularly alien conquest and power miners as I think they’d manage to do well now if they made like a series of it or something, similar to clutch powers using sets from the power miners in the clutch powers movie.

Well, I've _heard of_ LEGO Master Builder Academy; but it's just that I wasn't able to even get my hands on one set from that LEGO theme because it was unavailable in Canada, and it wasn't even available at my local LEGO Brand Retail Stores nor on shop.lego.com (if I set my shipping destination to "Canada"). :/
I honestly hate DC Superhero Girls. The builds are boring. They would've sold better if they had minifigures. Lego just thinks that if they throw pink and things that look that dolls in a box, girls will rush to get it!

The dc super hero girls sets were so cool! All the superhero girls, the villain girls, the kryptomites, krypto, steve, flash... I miss it so much

Yeah. But marketing was bad, and they were trying to do something too new with old characters. Felt like they compromised too much with old fans and trying to gain new ones. Really should have gone mostly in on one side or the other.

I've always questioned that; for a company that doesn't care about gender why do only the "girly" themes have mini dolls?
Because Lego has more boys than girls buying their products (Not being sexist this is just an assumption) so they make girly stuff. I hate that theme though because the sets are cool but I hate the girly stuff.
because apparently girls like more doll-like figs. if I recall correctly the lego friends line was the biggest selling girls theme for a long timemeaning it's that element that factored in.

it seems a lot of people put the cart before the horse in regards to business XD companies dont put out products on a whim and its the customer's job to buy it it is the customer who has a desire for a product and it's the company's job to meet that demand.
otherwise, you'd never get blatantly obvious cash grabs and pandering if the companies decide what the customer wants.

None of them really deserved to in my view, except Scooby Doo; I think there was more potential there. I loved how each set was based on a specific episode of the show.

How come DC Super Hero Girls didn’t sell well, but Lego Friends did? I know you stated your reasons, but I’m just wondering why one theme was more successful than the other when both themes have similar styles and target demographics? Also, how is Lego Disney doing?
James Lawner The 2016 line of Lego Friends had some great sets with nice detailing and play features. The Super Hero Girls line had very little besides the figures themselves ( other than Batgirl's Batwing).
When I was a kid, I used have over 25 hero factory sets.😂 (I sold all of them)
