    I bought this compressor for £25. It was of an unknown brand but in working condition. It was fun to restore and I learned a lot.
    Firstly I dismantled the compressor completely. I then paint stripped all of the paint. Once that was gone I set about removing the rust from all of the steel parts and I also removed any dents. I then masked the metal parts up before I etch primed, epoxy primed and then painted them blue. Whilst that was drying I got to cleaning and polishing all of the internal parts and external nuts and bolts. I then made a new air filter for the piston and then 3d printed and a new cap for the new capacitor. I then reassembled the compressor and tested it out with an airbrush. I have now sanded back the ground connection, resoldered the wires and added heat shrink.

    In a world where things are thrown away rather than repaired or restored then I have to say that it is quite refreshing to see someone like yourself doing something like this, very nice job.

    Brilliant video and restoration, right speed, clear indication of what you are using, no supermarket music to piss you off and made in england so the parts/items you use can be easily obtained. Plus not faked to look like it's been rusting away in a cold damp cellar for 50 yrs and that you were lucky enough to find it to restore on camera, like some of the other restoration channels are starting to do. I'm trying to get two of your compressors bigger siblings working, the supplier wants £18.00 plus p&p for a 3/8" brass elbow!!

    At 4:01 it looks like the motor cooling fan gets bent up as you hammer it out of the motor case. Then at 12:20 you straighten it out. Then later at 17:19 when you reassemble it, it looks like you had to fold it up again. I think maybe the other end of the motor case also comes off?

  • @kittiworks
    @kittiworks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Possibly one of the best executions of the restoration video genre yet! Nice camera work, good sense of pacing, and as for the restoration itself it's ridiculously detailed. Can't believe how much effort goes into this, and I love that you even go as far as to redesign and print labels. Really glad you got featured by TH-cam's trending.
    A small suggestion: perhaps you can try annotating your videos with captions. The silent style of your videos is really reminiscent of Primitive Technology. Plus, I think it'd allow you to give better insight to the process without disturbing the silent nature of your videos or overfilling the screen with words.
    You can even give comments about the process! Like how that part was tricky or ended up being surprisingly easy; just little tidbits here and there if you'd like.

    The Chemtronics flux pens are my favourite for that sort of thing. Get it where you wan't it, transparent and easily wipe-able after the fact. One of those, few more degrees on the iron and a bit of practice and you'll be sorted. Good job getting the shrink wrap, I've always found the heat vent on a gas iron to be the perfect tool for shrinking it in small places. Nice one, thanks for sharing.

    Just a friendly tip, when striping it helps to use planer chips after you apply the striper to the parts. the planer chips not only soak up the striper but it also makes for a much easier cleanup. And the chips also act like little scapers to help with pesky stubern hard to get to areas.
