Nice knife collection and the catapult looks like a fantastic knife for winter. Noticed the Rolex on your wrist, would love to see your watch collection and discussion on what you look for in a watch.
Your video was very helpful in my decision-making process. My non-serrated example arrived earlier today. The first time pressing the deploy button brought a huge smile on my face. This thing is impressive! And I have a very nice collection of pocket knives too, so I'm not easily impressed. Most impressive however is how sharp it is. It is one of the sharpest factory knives I have ever purchased. It is sharper than many of my semi-custom knives that cost a lot more. Evidently BM has stepped up their game, as none of the other BM's I own came nearly this sharp. Also like how the safety button is crisp in it's movement, with well-defined detents. Not mushy at all. Very happy with it!!
I have found that several Benchmade knives, especially the Griptillian, if you sling it like you would while holding the axis lock down to flip it open, you can do it without touching the axis lock and it'll fly open one handed! Didn't know I could do that without holding down the lock! My manual Presidio II can but I have to hold it sideways and basically spin it 180 degrees as fast as I can, to make it open, but the Griptillian will fly open like it's an auto knife just by giving it that quick flip. Nice to know. I may not have explained that well, but it works if you can decipher what I was just saying lol.
This is what I use for dog walking cuz I usually do it at night and I'm in sweatpants so it's lightweight and doesn't weigh my pants down. I've had that Benchmade Striker too and I liked it I don't have it currently...
Hello again Doc Thank you for another Great Video. Have you ever looked at the Spyderco knives. I have a V8-10 knife. It's not spring assisted but it does have a full serrated blade. I haven't been on their site in a while. I think you should give them a look. Again thank you and Happy New Year's to you and your family.
Hello George. Thanks for watching. I do have some Spyderco blades. Good knives but I like the Benchmade Axis lock much more than the spine lockback most Spydercos have. I used to carry a spyderco rescue as a dog walker. Forgot to mention that one. I had an orange handles one but lost it on an adventure. I still have a green one and a black one along with a black rescue assist. I dig them out and have them handy for videos.
@@lastbesttool Hello again Doc I actually, found my knife while working on a Air Force contract in Kuwait. I had launch a Aircraft. And found it on my walk around looking for foreign object debris (FOD) on the taxi way. So jet engines don't eat the FOD and cause damage. I used find a lot of snuff. Knives and flashlights were common. Anyhow. Happy New Year's to you and your family.
I carry a Spyderco PM2 Ultra. (Bladeswelove) The button compression lock works as well as an automatic for me with the benefit of closing one handed/faster/easier due to no spring. It sounds like you actually USE your knife on dog walks often, and I have to ask what situations are you finding yourself in when you need it? Your dog walks must be much more adventerous than mine.
I have the green claymore. I love it. The action is really good on this one. It hits hard. The CPM D2 is definitely interesting, doesn’t seemed to be used as much as D2. Curious about the differences between D2 and CPM D2.
It's the claymore by benchmade. Not a catapult. Not sure if benchmade makes a knife called the catapult. Sorry. Not being a smart ass. Just thought I would correct you on that. I have 1. Love the knife. Just a fan. Thank you.
I usually carry a 38 special when I take my dog out or when I go out at night around my place. We've run into the pack of coyotes that roams the area. They never bother us, they instead look at us with confusion as to why something that looks so much more like them is wearing shoes and a coat and is walking with a person lol.
Admittedly, I'm not a knife person. I do, however, like to carry a small-ish, light knife. Having seen some of Doc's knives that are nothing short of beautiful, I decided to upgrade my Walmart special. I prefer a relatively short, but wide, blade - I'm sure there's a name for it - and a knife light enough that I don't feel its presence in the pocket. I'm not under any illusion of personal tactical capably; it's a tool. Also had a budget in mind. This lead me to Spyderco. Love the big spider hole, the unconventional appearance, and the performance. Folks who normally wouldn't care ask me about it.
Doc: This knife now is sold as a straight edge. That said, a year after havingusingposting this, do you recommend it for an EDC carry (general, property maintenance, etc.)
I still recommend this blade, and carried it today on a mountain dog walk. That said it is on the lighter side for daily hard use. For that I'd recommend a heavier knife with a denser handle and possibly a thicker blade. But for general slicing tasks, it will work great. And the handle fit in the hand is better than most. In my opinion, of course. Thanks for watching.
If you have a sharp knife you don’t need serrations to cut ropes and lines. Benchmade has the worst serrations too, maybe look at a spyderco if you want a serrated blade
There are two Stryker versions, the old one and the new one. They changed the spring mechanism and increased the size and depth of the button. I have both and like the earlier one better. It has much more powerful spring, but is less likely to accidentally deploy.
I carry a blaze orange straight edge delica. They must have a serrated version. Thanks for the excuse to buy a new knife! My wife carries a neck knife for self defense, dog rescue and other emergencies.
CPM D2 is entirely different than the D2 which most knives use. It's a powered super steel that is tougher, stronger and easier to sharpen than ingot D2
It’s a tool steel, still. Super steel, tool steel, oil or water steels aren’t words randomly used but classifications based on heat treatment. It is D2, crucible-smelted from powder. It offers slightly higher edge retention, toughness, and abrasion resistance. It is still D2. Some places incorrectly call it a super steel.
U lost me at “you need to have serrations”. I hate serration combo knives. If u keep your plain edge sharp it does just as much h and more than a serration combo.
CPM D2. It’s not the same as normal D2 that you find on cheap knives. CPM D2 holds an edge WAY longer, is tougher, and in my experience is less prone to rust than your standard cheap D2

I'm getting a lot of pressure to put something together on watches.

I love the Benchmade diver knife! I want one now.
Update: at $350 + dollars I decided I didn't need one after all 😟

My good friend. D2 and CPM D2 are very different. The latter is really good!!!
You make me want to buy all the knives!

I have a new benchmade presidio 2 auto that I love! It's my only auto knife and I carry it often! I am thinking maybe a gerber 06 auto next
Assisted spring 580 is pretty much a auto with one push it comes flyin out fast
That stryker is awesome, I just picked up the pro tech tr3 with the grooves it is very similar.

Cpm D2 is the powder metallurgy version, basically increased wear resistance and edge retention versus regular D2.

Dude! Sweet catapult!
Love to see your tool storage... do you use them all or just collect for the sake of collecting? LOL Reminds me of my dad.

Catapult? That’s a Claymore. I have one and it’s my favorite right now
Have you ever engaged the safety accidentally?
All the time.
Check out the cold steel recon 1. Not auto but great tool for all these same reasons
What sharpening system do you use?
If you have a sharp knife you don’t need serrations to cut ropes and lines. Benchmade has the worst serrations too, maybe look at a spyderco if you want a serrated blade
Never take a dog out without a knife!!
My knife of choice is a Steel Will Cutjack.
No an auto but flips open fast and is super sharp!!
Benchmade stryker is a BEAST. had mine since 1996 and I still carry it daily for defense.

I have the same knife. Orange, as well. Love it!
I used to carry an orange SpyderCo Rescue but lost it up City Creek somewhere on the west side of Pocatello, Idaho.
Is it a catapult?
Or a claymore?
The model name is the Claymore

it's all personal preference,, i hate serrations and i prefer spyderco knives,, my pocket knife of choice is my para 2
If I go in a pot store and ask for a knife for walking dogs they'll call the police!
I wish there was gimping
I handled this knife yesterday.
It pretty much feels like a cheap toy. The deployment speed is good though.
Claymore - Not Catapult.
Um, that's a claymore
You might invest in a firearm....also a bigger dog
Paying 200+/- and just d2??! I'll pass
