    What is good is that Garmin will have people snapping at their heels - I’m a definite Garmin fan but having Suunto and Polar up their game like this is good for the whole market and the consumer

      Its odd how somehow very niche features can become deal breakers. For my trail running, I find Garmin’s Up Ahead feature during routes to be almost essential. If Suunto,Coros and Polar can improve the mapping and navigation a bit for labels etc, and do something similar, it’ll be good for all of us

    Definitely feel like they are pricing themselves out of the market with this one. It truly is a beautiful watch but with it being so much it isn't going to pull polar from their current market share. It offers way less features than Garmin, if you can't compete on features you have to compete on price

  • @chrisar2252
    @chrisar2252 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    The heart rate problem is interesting, I've had that once with the V3 on a run when I didn't tighten it up up a bit before starting, it was pretty obvious when you looked at the chart though. Maybe it's switched momentarily other times and I've not noticed. The V3 is a simple choice for me for the 5 button interface and the app features I use for training, so if I wanted the same things from a tougher watch this would be an easy call. If I was less sport orientated I'd probably get a Garmin for the better mapping, or coros apex or suunto race for the price. Having said that I'm on my third Polar and haven't paid full price for any of them, even the pre-ordered V3 was on 15% discount (shop around!).

    I've always been a huge Polar fan ❤and I like the app's interface by far the best! But for everyday use, I say if you have an iPhone you can't go back to any other watch without an Apple Ultra watch with an eSIM card. Nevertheless, my M430 is preferred for competitions, it is half as heavy and doesn't surprise me with intelligent messages that distract me at the wrong moment😅

    • @jeffreytillack4709
      @jeffreytillack4709 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I also have the Apple Ultra. It’s been a huge disappointment. The health metrics are rubbish for athletes and very amateurish for “normal” people. With the exception of Apple Pay I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

    • @PERFECTWORKOUT

    • @jeffreytillack4709
      @jeffreytillack4709 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. My Ultra gets it wrong every single day. Yet my 4 year old Suunto 9 Baro nails it. GPS is pretty good and heart rate is accurate most of the time although it does bounce around on occasion. As a smartwatch though for every day it can’t be beaten .

    I was hoping they would bring out a new Grit X, and that they would give it a MIP screen. Keep the Oled for the Vantage. That makes sense in a way
    since it is an outdoor watch, MIP has much better battery life which is perfect for outdoors
    The price is insane, worried this is set by the banks, since people are saying Polar is doing bad financially
    There is NO WAY on earth paying these prices. I can own a Fenix 7, AND a Forerunner 955 for that money, think about that, how bonkers that price is. Even the Vantage V3 is much cheaper (already on sale for $500 about), that is $300 less than their own other product, that does the same thing.
    Have owned many a Polar but Vantage V2 might be my last for a while
    Back to Garmin probably, and Suunto looks interesting too
    Polar is just lost in the woods, sadly, would have liked them do better
    But the new Vantage and Grid X are utter flops , when they needed to make a clutch move like the Suunto Race
    Hope you are reading Polar, because I, and iiuc others care about you as company, but you need to shape up or ship out
    IMHO
    😢

    • @astasuleo
      @astasuleo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i will agree with you on the MIP display. They would have think about keeping the MIP for the GritX 2Pro. Now they have 2 watches at the same almost area. If Garmin Fenix will do the same on the Fenix 8 and instead of the MIP goes for an Amoled i think they will definately loose lots of customers.

    Huge bummer after 12 years with Polar...
    Recently bought a used Polar Grit X Pro Titanium (6 months ago), but it keeps crashing, losing data (heart rate, activities), and many times it won't sync (tried Bluetooth & cable), so I have to make Factory reset once a week.
    Went to send it for repair, but found out Polar's warranty doesn't cover used watches. Garmin, on the other hand, warranties even pre-owned ones (got Garmin's confirmation by e-mail)! Plus, they have SpO2, Garmin Pay...
    It seems like Polar is falling behind and is slowly dying...
    Think I'll switch to Garmin...

      Interesting. After having two Garmin watchbands fail, four years apart, with abysmal customer support response, is why I'll never buy Garmin again. However, for 11 years and 5 models, Polar's customer service has been stellar and on point.

    Still no gym mode support with rep/set counters or even the possibility to create GPS routes from the app... Classic from POLAR, nice looking watches, with good hardawre, but super late on features 🙄
    The only way the price would be really justified, is if POLAR sarted implementing features and firmware updates more frequently along the way, instead of going on with the 6 month watch releases like they still do today...

    Great review! I replaced my Suunto T6 (from 2006) with a Garmin 965 over the Suunto Race bc the Suunto's 2nd class heart rate monitor is a deal breaker IMO given so much of the fitness related metrics are based on HR data. I did like the Suunto Race better aesthetically and it's sapphire crystal tho many inexpensive/great looking covers are available for the 965 on Amazon. My biggest disappointment is that my T6 pc app from 2006 will graph out EPOC with HR & time making it far more useful when honing cardio workouts given a desired schedule frequency - so Garmin needs to add that capability ASAP. This Polor looks nice, tho expensive, and I look forward to yr in depth review. Please focus on the companion Polor PC/Phone app functionality and HR monitor accuracy given it's the foundation of most of the smart watch apps. In fact, I'd love a vid comparing the PC apps from different manufacturers and any notable 3rd party apps as I mostly engage the data over PC or phone rather than on the watch. Thanks!

    Polar seems to be already struggling. Not to mention no one here in Utah sells Polar anymore. No one. Polar website or Amazon now. And you can’t even get the V3 on Amazon, and you can get anything on Amazon. So I’m really struggling to why they set such a high price point. Especially when Suunto said screw it, and set the Race at such a low price. I have the V3 and love it but I still don’t know it’s worth the 600$ price I paid. Maybe if it came with a sapphire glass screen? 🤷🏻‍♂️

    fun fact, both polar and suunto are from finland - having said it, both these two companies produce tremendous and glorious watch, well, I do have to agree with you on the price and the competition out there, especially when suunto launch the race model and garmin up-ed the ante by bringing in the epix gen 2 pro, with not only loads of software feature, but hardware too. its going to be a tough choice for consumers out there.

    The Grit X2 Pro sure is a nice looking watch, but designwise it's just a copy of the Fenix/Epix-Series, which also hast become a little boring over the past years. I preferred the design of the previous Grit X an the Grit X Pro. Even with the good built quality, the price ist way too high in my opinion. For this price I would go for the Epix Pro or even wait for the next Fenix/Epix Generation - or save a lot of money and buy a Suunto Race like I just did, switching from my trusted Fenix 6 Pro after 8 Years with Garmin.

    It is a good step forward, batterly life sounds promising, but the price is going to make it a really hard sell. I use the old Grit X Pro up to this day and I really like the aesthetics of it and has not bothered me with many weird bugs, nowadays it is pretty stable and reliable. I do mention that in my Suunto Race review. In my opinion it’s something most people can get used to but if you’re sensitive to it then it’s a show stopper. When I say similar I mean in terms of features. On paper the Grit x2 and Race are nearly identical except one is half the price.

      @@RumbleBack-iz3tl Yeah, you're full of shit, no offense. I recently returned a Race Titanium and it's laggy as all hell. Compared to my 7x Pro SS, it's not even a contest. Heck, even my G-Shocks move are better in this regard than the Vertical (GBD-H200 and GW-H5600). Suunto is crazy with their pricing and their carbon offset scheme. They need to remember than Finland's economy is different than the rest of the worlds (and i should know, my wife works there). As far as this watch goes, Polar have drank the same cool-aid as Suunto have. More expensive than the AWU2 and even more expensive then the Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 while severely lacking in everything when compared to them. Again, even the G-Shocks have better OHR accuracy and this baffles me since it's their algorithms but i guess a fool and his money...

    • @ChaseTheSummit

      Not historically. Polar's always been pretty reliable. The Vantage V3 initially had some issues I think because it was something very new for them. New CPU, AMOLED, first time having maps, etc... so there were some bumps in the road. I'm hopeful that those bumps are resolved in this latest firmware update but time will tell.

      It's not too shabby in a GPS activity with over 40 hours in it's highest accuracy. Polar watches always have slightly lower "smartwatch" battery specs due to the way they utilize their heart rate sensor and sample more data thoughout the day.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Epix Pro starts at $899 for the Standard model and has a lot more "smart" features like music support, NFC payments, the Connect IQ app store, and much more. The Suunto Race is $449 and has almost the same feature set and build quality. I guess in my opinion the Grit X2 Pro is positioned in a tough spot at it's price even though it's a great looking and built watch!

      The are bunch of people (men) who will pay a lot for a good looking/rugged "sporty smartwatch".
