  • Just knowing the location of the sensor can be a little difficult. Accessing it because of the headlight almost requires removing the entire bumper. There is a way if you use a little silicone grease and two spots that you can slip the headlight out to access this G 65 air conditioning pressure sensor

Try this headlight removal option at your peril. I spent an hour with silicon, WD40 etc and even tried cutting away some of the surplus plastic at the back of the grill but there realistically no way of pulling the headlight out without breaking something. Best option is to remove the front bumper, which after some initial trepidation I found very simple, and only had to remove the fastenings on the LH guard to allow me to pull the bumper forward, remove the headlight and access the pressure switch. You'll need T25 and T30 screwdriver heads with an extension to access the two headlight fastening screws, a 10mm long socket on an extension to access the two nuts that fasten the guard and a flat head screwdriver for the three screws that secure the bumper to the front subframe. I worked slowly and it took around 15-20 mins to access the pressure switch. If I did it now it would take 5-10 mins max.
Note that you CAN remove the pressure switch safely with gas in the system as there is a schraeder valve that prevents gas loss. There is a slight loss of gas (pssst) when you unscrew the switch though but not enough to make any difference to the AC.
The new G65 switch from NZ Audi was $259 ($#^$**%%^^) so I bought a Denso replacement off Ebay matched to my a4 with VIN number for around NZ$100 inc freight from the UK.
The only concern I have at this stage is the position of the rubber O Ring on the pressure switch but I will work that out when my new switch arrives and let you know.

did you leave the undertray intact? that seems like the biggest hassle when working on the drive!

Don’t be lazy. I tried it this way, and my Audi (05 B7) had an extra mounting tab that the headlight in this video didn’t have and ended up breaking my radiator trying to get the headlight out. I then looked up a video on removing the bumper and it’s literally easier to just remove the bumper than trying to avoid it. Learn from my mistakes and just do it the right way.

Removed the bumper in 20 mins, replaced valve in 5 mins, replaced bumper in 15 mins, no drama, no damage. You just need a few socket extensions and a flash light to reach the 10 mm nuts inside the wheel arch/bumper.

Hey thanks for the informative video. Would you by any chance know the placement of the Q7 2013 model of the G65?

Did this today, unfortunately the last flex made the middle mount on top break right off. and with my continued luck, the replacement sensor doesn't fit at all

hi, thanks for the video, a question if you remove the pressure switch, do you lose the air conditioning fluid?😊

It would be easier to just take that side of the bumper off. Really it would.

Exactly what I did highly recommended. Only have to undue belly pan screws and 3 top screws on bumper. All else is only needed on that side

No, a one way schraeder valve prevents gas loss.
