minor differences in the original novel:
    1. it was *Qianlong who restored Jin Yuyan back to Noble Consort rank prior to this scene* (specifically *2 days after Ruyi's coronation/enthronement ceremony* ), still as consolation for 9th prince's death
    2. Jin Yuyan's red _qizhuang_ was specifically described as *having eight roundels depicting peonies* , further driving the insulting rudeness towards Ruyi
(in Classical Chinese literature, *peonies were described as 花中王* ( _hua zhong wang_ lit. "king amongst flowers"), ergo the *symbol of the Empress Consort* )
3.a. Su Luyun's row: *Hailan then Wei Yan'wan*
3.b. Jin Yuyan's row: *Bai Ruiji*
3.c. can't remember where Yihuan, Chen Wan'yin, Lu Ying'luo¹, and Lady Fuca² were sat
(1 - her name was changed to "Lu Muping" for VERY OBVIOUS REASONS
2 - yes there was a 3rd Fuca clanswoman in Qianlong's harem, and this one was actually being promoted by some court ministers (led by Zhang Ting'yu) to become the next Empress Consort, but as Yihuan pointed out, Lady Fuca had a very low rank and was unlikely to be chosen by the imperial clan; in RL Noble Lady Jin (晉貴人) was stuck in her ranking throughout Qianlong Era, and was only granted Dowager Consort (太妃) status by Jiaqing Emperor, meaning on her death she becomes Consort Jin (晉妃))
    4. regarding the issue of Yikun'gong Palace, *Qianlong actually broached the issue with Ruyi and suggested 3 other alternative residences* :
    a. Changchun'gong Palace - obviously out of the question aka *Langhua (Empress Xiaoxian(chun))*
    b. Jing'ren'gong Palace - a much worse suggestion than above because *Yixiu*
    c. Chengqian'gong Palace - the *only permissible alternative* , since in subtleties 承乾 ( _chengqian_ ) had basically the same meaning as 翊坤 ( _yikun_ ) which is "to assist", though the genders are reversed and the context largely changes
*Ruyi refused Chengqian'gong Palace because the place had long been in disuse* and there was no time for a quick refurbishing, hence Ruyi opted to remain where she was instead
(and on that note "Yanxi Palace" placed Step Empress in Chengqian'gong Palace instead, with Yikun'gong Palace occupied otherwise by Consort Ying if my eyes don't deceive me (in that scene with Qianlong flipping the name tags))
    5. during Jin Yuyan's 3rd salvo regarding being the 繼室:
5.a. Su Luyun was biting her tongue the entire time
5.b. Ruyi had this entire cerebral monologue wherein *whether her aunt Yixiu stressed herself with being Yongzheng Emperor's Step Empress*
(basically confirming the fact that *Empress Chun'yuan DID exist in "Ruyi" both novel and drama as the placeholder of Empress Xiaojingxian* ; the latter since Zhen Huan ordered Yixiu's funeral conducted according to the rank of Consort)
    6. Wei Yan'wan was wrong about agate and red carnelian: *even the servants of the Forbidden City have difficulty differentiating the two gemstones* , and Jin Yuyan herself had to squint hard when Liyu had presented her the red carnelian _buyao_ hairpins (originally intended for Hailan)
    7. Rongpei's impromptu piercing was actually much worse: because those earrings were basically hashtag chandelier earrings *Jin Yuyan was dripping blood all over the carpet in full view of everyone*

Man, the Emperor made some bad suggestions on a palace Ruyi could move into. I love how you remembered their seating order though.
Though Jia being reinstated by the Empress instead the Emperor in this scene is one of those changes that just enhances it all. Allows for Ruyi to send a message without just directly going "I'm in power, shut up"
But, wasn't Jia at fault for the 9th Prince's death so why would the Emperor console her at all over it?

      1. *the seating order was according to rank* (I do notice tho that in the drama version, the Empress seats her most favored high-ranking junior by her left-hand side, e.g. Langhua-Gao Xiyue, and Ruyi-Su Luyun then Hailan); tho I can't for the life of me understand why Wei Yan'wan was seated beside Hailan when she wasn't that favored compared to Yihuan at the time
(edited my original comment because I forgot that opposite Su Luyun was actually Jin Yuyan, meaning Hailan was beside Su Luyun)
      2. in the original novel:
      a. *Jin Yuyan succesfully gave birth to 9th prince BEFORE the fake infidelity plotline* , though by the time of Jin Yuyan's punishment 9th prince was suffering from colds and was separated from her
      b. *Wei Yan'wan was actually responsible for the death of 9th prince* , but *Qianlong actually blames Su Luyun* (since she was delegated the prince's care), further fueling his suspicions against her

in East Asia this behavior is a huge no no, which survives to the modern period
no idea about both Chinas & Japan, but in South Korea women are discouraged from wearing white outfits when attending as guests at modern weddings (even if they are the bride's friends or immediate family)

    • @mokko759

@@user-ix1rp9ff3p In the west, white is often the bride's colour and to show up at a wedding wearing white is considered an extremely tacky and trashy thing to do. It's especially bad if it is a member of the wedding party ( bridesmaids, mothers etc.). Unless the wedding couple specifically sanction the wearing of white, it's just good manners not to wear white.
