I went to see Kurt Vile in Ottawa. He was cool. I invited some friends of mine to the show. One of them said to me "So who is this Kurt Vile guy?" and he walked by and said "Oh that's me." and kept on walking. He was cool. His show was great too. Just him, a guitar and a looping pedal.
Is this the only time on "What's in my bag?" that someone bought Ween? Holy smokes, FINALLY! I think I've seen all of these and that may have been the only Ween sighting.
i met kurt vile and the violators yesterday and shared a beer and a cigarette. he really is a great guy and really friendly! Its so rare to meet a musician who is so down to earth and self-depreciating. great gig and superb talent. jesse is super nice too!
Ween AND Michael Hurley?!! RIGHT ON! Ween is my all-time favorite band and Michael Hurley is easily my favorite singer-songwriter (he doesn't get enough recognition, IMO).
Good to hear, lol. Ween is easily my favorite band and Michael Hurley is my favorite singer-songwriter. I just watched this video for the first time and I'm pleasantly surprised both were brought up!
Almost all choices on the Folk side but i guees that's the way many of us operate when buying records on a particular day. What impresses me is that he seems to be such a great and down to earth guy. Not bad for someone who for many has released the best Rock Record of 2013...
Hope to see Kurt Vile live one of these days. Can't believe I saw him standing in front of an LP I think he'd like...Parallelograms by Linda Perhacs (love the title track)...and I see below a couple of other folks mentioned it too. Have to thank him for turning me on to two people I'm not familiar with...Anne Briggs and Michael Hurley (both still alive but only Hurley's still be playing out). If he likes Anne Briggs, I think he should check out the early works of Frankie Armstrong (the two women were together on a project at one point). ❤☮🌎
i like the part where the song goes, "dont cress the weasel, and dont fall too soon , dont seek the blood of the panther.......etc. ace tune, nice choice...
One of the guys who was a member of Nils Lofgren's band "Grin" (I only know his first name, Tom) now lives here in my town, Frederick, Maryland, and owns and operates an independent record shop in a small basement space called Vinyl Acres!
One of the other members of Grin not named Nils Lofgren owns and operates an independent record store in the town I live in (Frederick, Md.) called Vinyl Acres in a basement shop on one of this city's main streets. I hope that he has good business insurance 'cuz he's been unable to operate for three months now due to the COVID-19 outbreak and still hasn't even though Md's social-distancing restrictions have been relaxed in recent weeks and the lockdown lifted. I'm worried that the couple of months in which he couldn't legally operate during the lockdown might have killed his shop.
@2:53 O-O\\ I got to go get that Linda Perhacs record . . which store is this?? I was just at the one in LA and I didn't see it! maybe because my dumbass didn't lokk fo rit

You should see him with the Violators… tricking awesome show. He's a totally casual guy though, you're right.
I did not know that he Smiled !!
“Then I laughed and I said oh silly me, that’s just me”
Anybody who likes Ween gets approval points in my book.
I said "yes" when he flaunted The Mollusk.
one of the greatest albums ever
When I saw that I thought maybe I should check him out.
Well, he is from Philly.
yup. totally agreed.
Is this the only time on "What's in my bag?" that someone bought Ween? Holy smokes, FINALLY! I think I've seen all of these and that may have been the only Ween sighting.
"One of em is for me, one of em for Adam my guitar player." This dude is legit
From War On Drugs. Cool.
I sang some Ween songs with Kurt Vile, while I was busking outside his show in Minneapolis a few summers ago...

Thanks to this video where Kurt mentioned Bert Jansch (who I'd never heard of before and am gonna go listen to forever now).
Rainfall And Bonfires What are the best Jansch albums? I’ve heard about him but have never actually heard any of his stuff.
Yeah man!
I couldn't possibly love him more.
Ween AND Michael Hurley?!! RIGHT ON! Ween is my all-time favorite band and Michael Hurley is easily my favorite singer-songwriter (he doesn't get enough recognition, IMO).
Top Choices sir..Anne, Bert, Michael Hurley, Fairport Convention. Can't go wrong right there.
The Linda Perhacs album, "Parallelograms", is perched in the background on the right. If you like Anne Briggs, Perhacs will not disappoint.
These clips are addictive - it's good to hear your favourite cool artist speaking enthusiastically about music
Yay I love that Anne Briggs!
I love ween’s use of the pitch shifted vocals, not many people experiment with that and I wish more would
so much respect for kurt vile knowing hes a weeeeeeeeeeeeen fan !
Kurt viles the man.... Non stop listening to his stuff for hours !!!!!
LOVE that they play "she wanted to leave" in the end credits

Kurt Vile is the man. I listen to Pretty Pimpin at least once a day. NO JOKE. ....
Kurt is down with The Brown.
He is one of the most incredible contemporary artists. So amazing.
Excellent chuckle at the end!
I love Kurt Vile, nothing I've heard from him has disappointed yet.
The Mollusk by Ween is my favorite album ever.
The Mollusk. Awesome!
Kurt looks so 70s in a good way.
Yes!! He reminds me of old live Pink Floyd videos (with the gorgeous David Gilmour).
He looks like Niel young
He needs a beard and massive amounts of chest hair to be 70’s
That's a timeless look. 70s to now definitely dudes have always had hair like that and worn t-shirts
Anne Briggs? This guy gets it.
ONE NIGHT BY CHANCE I SEEN THIS DUDE PERFORMED AND IT WAS AMAZING.
holy shit he's a ween fan too. i can't believe I'm just now finding this out. Mollusk and the stallion suite are some of my favorites!

There were times when i was so lonesome I took some comfort there

I hope he picks up a copy of Michael Hurley's "LIVING LJUBLJANA" released in 2018. He'd loved it :)
Kudos for all of the great British folk rock.

On, Vile, I love his collaborations with Australian musician, Courtney Barnett!
"Some licks!" love that bit
Anne Briggs, Fairport Convention...and Bert Jansch. Wow, this guy is my kinda guy.

WEEN!
hes so adorable sheesh
such a nice guy
That ween album is pretty great. They might be the loudest band I've ever seen live. Loved the tunes but I had to check out after 4 or 5 songs.
I'd love to be that seemingly chilled and happy go lucky.
Anne Briggs ! And he knows that guy from Espers, that doesn't really surprise me. :)
Man i would love to share a beer or a glass of whiskey with this guy! He's so damn cool.
Get the Linda Perhacs record in the background for the love of god.
finally a" whats in my bag" whos not afraid to like tasty music.
Outtro is a great song from The Mollusk - She Wanted To Leave
beautiful hair!!
Almost got to see him open for Thurston Moore last year. Was too broke to go and am now kinda bummed about it...
WEEN! Fuck Yeah!
This just stacked up important references for me. Kurt Vile > Anne Briggs > Willy O Winsbury > Meg Bairds Cover. It was like he unpacked my brain
Follow by Fairport, Bert Jansch, Michael Hurley. This man just grew in my esteem for him ten fold
I kept staring at his face wondering who he reminds me of. A skinny Johnny Vegas. Tell me I'm wrong.
dude... wtf?
?
Goddamn... I'm seeing it.
Johnny Vegas and Darlene from 'Roseanne'.
Rowan Atkinson I think he looks like
Mollusk. Damn straight.
Nice T-shirt Kurt!
His hair is so beautiful...
he's so cool
What we need is a new Espers album.
