    Regarding the Hun Wonder, I always thought that the concept behind it was that the huns had actually ransacked and stole the arc from the romans. That's why the arc is in very bad shape. It's a symbol of the plunder and defeat of a rich empire.

      @nunorocha3076 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Dude chains are not silly, chains were the thing that prevent several times countless ports of being captured thought a looooooooong timeeeeeeeee although our way is also efective ^_^
      Dude we had a "super boat" that we had from the money from the exploration period that was a HUGE boat and a Christian ltalic nation had to ask us to borrow it beacause they couldnt capture a Turk port, our super boat was the only thing capable of breaking that chain, the other boats would simply break trying to do so, this history that chains prevent ports being capture is just a small example in probably the thousands that hapened

    mongol wonder is genghis khan's tent, to be specific "the golden tent" or "altın orda".
    word "orda" is also homonymous with turkish word "ordu"meaning army or horde. that's why "altın orda" is translated to english as "golden horde" while it actually means "golden tent"

  • @1302AOE
    @1302AOE 7 ปีที่แล้ว +71

    The Britons indeed have the Aachen Cathedral as their wonder. The reason for this is that ES first intended to only have 1 wonder per building set like in Age of Empires 1. Later they decided to give every civilization a unique wonder anyway and for some reason (maybe lack of time) the Britons never got their own unique wonder.

    • @hexmaniacciaran

    • @MrMarinus18
      @MrMarinus18 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I also think they didn't want to waste the cathedral as an asset and they had to give it to someone. It wouldn't make sense for the Toutans though as they mostly were in what is now Brandenburg and north Poland and Aachen is in the Rhineland.

    I can say that the design of korean wonder is the imaginary creation of Ensemble Studio, based on the other pagodas of East Asia, just like you mentioned from the video. However, I always considered this one as the pagoda of Hwangnyongsa, even if it doesn't look like to the original at all. First, the pagoda of Hwangnyongsa is the most famous pagoda in korean history, which can represent the korean civilization in the video game with no doubt. Second, the location of Wonder from the Noryang Point campaign is Gyeongju in real life, where the Hwangnyongsa was actually located. Anyway, as always, thanks for making this useful and entertaining video. :)

    For the Mongols wonder, its possible that the Ensemble Studios artists took inspiration from the tents from the 1956 film The Conqueror, which is infamous for the filming location at an active nuclear test site in Utah. (8:13)

  • @kcnize
    @kcnize 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So thanks to your amazing video I've made some research about the Frank's wonder and found out interesting stuff:
    While it was never specified by the developers what exactly they were going for with that design, it is interesting to point out that the official guide book for AOE II ''The Age of Kings'' mentions Chartre's Cathedral as an example in it's description for wonders (along with Aachen's cathedral ((which is mentioned as Charlemagne's palace for some reason)) and Hagia Sophia). I only found that in the French edition of the guidebook since I don't possess any other (p.53, Chapter Buildings).
    But as you pointed out the two buildings don't quite look the same and from a historical point of view it would make more sense to use Reims' cathedral as a wonder, since it was the place where every French king's coronation ceremony took place from 1027 to 1825.
    I think your theory about it being just a representation of what a generic French cathedral is right, especially considering that the Gothic architecture was called ''francigenum opus'' during the middle ages which literally translates into ''French art''. This would be a nice homage to the late medieval French architecture style as a whole.
    Thank you very much for the passion and research you put into these videos, it makes them both very interesting and entertaining.

    From what I gathered, in the begining they were planning each architectural style to have one wonder to it. For the Wester European style of the Britons, Teutons, Franks, etc they had the Aachen Cathedral which kind of encompassed all of them. But in the end they went with every civilization having its own wonder, and the Britons got the already made Aachen Cathedral.

    Pretty great video. In every book I've read about Genghis Khan, they all mention his tent being huge compared to the others, and that its pulled by 8 oxen. I like to think that's the Mongol wonder rather than some static building

    Fun fact about the Mausoleum of Theoderic: If you stand by the wall inside the upper chamber and whisper, someone standing in a specific spot on the other side of the room can hear you very clearly due to the echo traveling along the cylindrical wall.

    I think the huns didn't actually built it. It's kind of wierd, but I think they wanted to go with a successfull raid symbol. Like there was the wonder already, and the huns just gathered the treasure and food around it, and this is what makes it good for the Huns Wonder. Because its a complete Roman raid. But I just wildly imagine, we learn something in hungary about this, I have a faint memory hearing something like that actually happened, but really faint memory
