      I am curious about cost effective counters for the Incas.
      So Goths and Italians have these antiarcher infantry.
      How do they fare against slingers and hand cannoneers. Is it even worth building these units against foes with those tools.
      Presumably the Incans can use swordsmen and Kamiuks to hold the line against the anti infantry damage, but are Slingers damaging enough to be a worthy investment or do we have to look to massed Siege to blow the mixed army of Goths up?

    "Incas are the only civilization in humanity to have domesticated mountains." Menegat on his research where the Incas haven't cut the blocks used for building Machu Pichu, but rather, took them preformed from pairs of geological faults at aproximately 90° from each other, concluding that the location of Machu Pichu wasn't an accident, but rather, built where it was because of the geological conditions surrounding them. Same Machu Pichu is also one of the 7 wonders of the world.

      I think that for many civ that lack tech because they already have the civ bonus, it's more like they already have better version. In this case, Incas not learning architecture because they "domesticated the mountain" instead

    • @Volcano4981
      @Volcano4981 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Similarly with Byzantines - they already have an arguably better version of Masonry + Architecture with their building hitpoint bonus. Historical interpretation wise, I see it as them already having advanced building techniques, well, because they're literally the Eastern Roman Empire, by the time most of the other civilisations have to research for them. I suppose they also get Imperial Age cheaper due to that, but their extreme late game lacking a strong punch, because that reflects their decline.
      It's impressive how advanced and creative the Incas were at times and thank you for a brief glimpse into that. From what I've read, their messaging service at that time was also arguably second to none, with a dense network of runners. I guess that's why they had 'Couriers' as their unique tech before Fabric Shields, which made their unique units and Eagles 10% faster.

      @@chungus816 realistically Chinese should be split into several eras if we want different balance points and priorities, instead of a mediocre blend. I don't think any of them should get skirmishers though considering how the javelin was replaced by mass crossbows in Chinese warfare.
      Tang Chinese get Modao infantry as their swordsman from castle age on. They get stepped lancers and hussars (li shimin ie emperor taizong had an elite black armored formation, 玄甲军, which by their feats must have been light cavalry ie didn't have armored horses) instead of knight line. No demo ships and no cannon galleons.
      Song Chinese get poor swordsmen, but had the wealth to field cataphracts en masse, and had powerful crossbows (Zhugenu fits them the best) and a decent navy. Gunpowder started spreading here so demo ships and hand cannons, but no cannon galleons or bombards.
      If you want to play Yuan China please play mongols.
      Ming China would get all the gunpowder units, Qi jiguang based tech for combined arms (more unit types near each other gives bonuses), Liao rangers and/or war wagons (Hussite wagon type with small caliber cannon) unique units, Treasure ships on water... and no knight line. However they lack the economy bonuses Song China got.

    Honestly, Incas deserve the top spot among the New World civs, given that they had the largest and most populous empire among the three (actually, the Maya didn’t even have an empire) and took around 40 years to fully conquer, compared to two years for the Aztecs.

    I don't think you can say that having your houses detroyed hurts Incas double because they will be twice as pop capped as other Civs with the same number of houses destroyed. Sure, they will be more popped capped when their houses are destroyed, but the number of houses they have to construct to no longer be house capped is cut in half compared to other Civs, so it balances out.

      @@Thetarget1, they don't really get popped capped faster in practice though. You don't normally have a substantially larger cap space than population, because that would be wasting wood you could have spent on other things. In the early to mid game, you'd only need to destroy one or two houses to pop cap the other player, and that applies to Incas just as much as any other Civ. In the late game it wouldn't matter as both players are close to 200 pop and houses are never worth the time it takes to destroy them

    Something interesting that 99% of Age of Empires players don't know is that the Incas are not a Mesoamerican civilization, but a South American one. "Meso" is a Greek word that means "middle." In this case, Mesoamerica refers to Central America. The Incas, on the other hand, are from South America, so they cannot be considered Mesoamerican based on geographical reasons.
    In the video game, the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incas resemble each other greatly, leading most players to assume they share the same background or were very similar civilizations. However, thinking this way is a mistake.

    • @nathanfranks1476

      Although not nearly as closely related as the Aztecs and Mayans were to each other, there was a degree of cultural exchange and trade between Mesoamerica and the Andes. Calling the Incas a Mesoamerican civilisation is only partly incorrect, and in terms of simplification calling them Mesoamerican is apt enough.
      The Incas and Mesoamericans shared more in common with each other than they did with the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes that lived throughout the rest of the Americas.

    • @desja140
      @desja140 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DibbzTheLoner
      Setting aside the differences and similarities they had, as this is a conversation that could become too long for TH-cam comments, the term "Mesoamerican" refers to civilizations originating from Central America. It's a word used to geographically distinguish the pre-Columbian civilizations in Central America from the rest.
      Only within the context of the Age of Empires community does the phenomenon of referring to the Incas as a Mesoamerican civilization occur. This happens due to a misunderstanding of the real meaning of the word "Mesoamerican." The word refers to civilizations located in Central America (What is today from Panamá to Guatemala), which excludes South America (From Colombia and Venezuela to Chile and Argentina.). "Meso" is a Greek word that means "middle/between" alluding to the territories in what we call Central America, territories that are between North and South America.
      The Incas are a civilization located in South America, in what is now Perú and Bolivia. In Latin America, when discussing indigenous civilizations without taking their geographic location into account, we refer to them as "pre-Columbian civilizations," which is a more appropriate term for the American civilizations in Age of Empires. You can use "American civilizations" or "pre-Columbian civilizations," but "Mesoamerican" is a word that excludes the Incas, regardless of their similarities with the Aztecs or Mayans, solely due to their geographical position.

    Hi SOTL
    Thanks for this amazing Civ overview and the awesome intro. I love the changes you made in the newer civ overviews! 👏
    How about a statistics part in the Civ overview. It would contain good and bad Civ match ups and could be another hint or insight, what is working particularly well for the Civ.
    Keep going! Cannot waiz to see more Civs overviews. I hope for the newer Civs as well as the infrantry. You may consider to use King of the desert statistics.

  • @schullerandreas556
    @schullerandreas556 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I vehemently disagree with the archery range A- grade. It should be an A+.
    You have fully upgraded Arbalest and Skirms. The Skirms have a civ specific bonus tech and a food discount. Their handcannoneer equivalent unit is available in Castle age without having to research Chemistry and civ specific upgrades make it better than the generic handcanoneer. Thats basically Turks and Bohemians bonuses combined by having free chemistry in Castle.
    So you have one FU unit and two buffed units while only missing cav archers(which arent very good if you have no civ focus on it anyways). How is this an A-?

    • @kartiksaraf4676
      @kartiksaraf4676 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because A+ is for civs like Mayans, britons and ethiopians that has immediate and long-term direct bonuses to the archers

    • @schullerandreas556
      @schullerandreas556 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kartiksaraf4676 that would be stupid to give the highest grade only to civs that buff just one specific unit out of possible four units in the archery range.
      Mayans buff 2 out of 4 and have one fully upgraded which in itself is not that common. FU Arbalest without a civ bonus are available to only 6 Civs in total.

    A bit off topic, but I was checking out Return of Rome and forgot how fractured the unit upgrade line is in AoE1. No wonder I took to AoE2 so much quicker, though, the DE Rome is nice. Even if I'm used to centurions being infantry, though, I guess it makes sense as it at least keeps them in front to lead their legionaries into battle.

    Its a bit crazy the Inca don't have access to gunpowder or Knights when they quickly adopted both after contact with the Spanish, the first generation of noble Inca post contact had heavy armor, horses, arquebusiers/lances/swords.
    In AoE2 there are civs who never co-existed with Gunpowder at all or very heavy cavalry. The trick would be, that Stables are a tech that has to be researched in Imperial Age to unlock them, and maybe only if there are any non-american Civs in the game. That would be cool, literally "late to horses" and as late to gunpowder as pretty much everyone.
